40 criminal Afghans hijacked evacuation plane to Germany

Forty criminals from Afghanistan arrived in Germany last August on board evacuation planes from Kabul. This was reported by the news magazine “Focus”, citing internal reports for the Bundestag enquiry committee investigating the chaotic withdrawal of soldiers, diplomats and local Afghan forces from the Central Asian country.

The criminal Afghans were only identified after landing in Germany, according to “Focus”. Six men were wanted on German arrest warrants and immediately taken into custody. They are accused of rape, drug trafficking and supporting terrorist groups. The majority of the Afghans with criminal records had already been deported from Germany years ago, “Focus” further reports. They filed new applications for asylum as soon as they landed. According to the internal committee reports, the men are said to have used force to gain access to the evacuation planes at Kabul airport.

The German government is said to have paid the Taliban a high protection money for the rescue of about 100 Germans who were outside the airport premises last August, Focus reports, citing security circles in Berlin. With the help of the USA, a standstill agreement had been reached with the Islamist militias in order not to endanger the helicopter operations of the elite Bundeswehr unit Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK).

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence would neither confirm nor deny the payment of money when asked by “Focus”. “For reasons of operational security”, no statements were made about military action, they said.
