Socialist Party (SPÖ) press officers are once again hailing the Danube Island Festival in Vienna as a peaceful celebration. But behind the scenes it was obviously fishy. According to the police, two Syrians were arrested for sexual harassment.
The sexual assaults allegedly took place last Saturday. The police followed up on hints from visitors and were finally able to arrest two men, aged 27 and 34, in the act. The two Syrians were “provisionally arrested” on suspicion of sexual harassment, as the Vienna police posted on Twitter. However, as the two men did not confess to the charges, they were released on the order of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office.
