On Thursday, June 9, 2022, at around 9:25 p.m., a 63-year-old woman resident in Munich was on a platform of the suburban railway station at the main station. Suddenly, a 26-year-old man (Somali citizen without permanent residence in Germany) pushed her from behind with both hands against her back, causing her to fall onto the tracks. She was slightly injured by the fall.
Several people who witnessed the incident drew the attention of the driver of an approaching suburban train to the situation with appropriate gestures and he initiated emergency braking. The train came to a halt about fifteen metres in front of the woman, who in the meantime had managed to get into the shelter below the edge of the platform. She was then able to be brought back to the platform with the help of other witnesses. First aid was administered on the spot and the 63-year-old woman was later able to go home.
Other witnesses chased the 26-year-old suspect, who tried to leave the platform on foot, and alerted the police. Shortly afterwards, he was arrested without resistance on the mezzanine floor of the station.
During the initial investigation by the Munich Criminal Investigation Department, it was discovered that the suspect had kicked a dog on the platform shortly before committing his crime.
The police department 11 (intentional homicide) has taken up the investigation of an attempted murder.
The suspect will be brought before the investigating judge in the course of the day to clarify whether an arrest or detention order will be issued.
