Qatar embassy in Paris: security guard killed while shouting “Allah Akbar”

On Monday morning, a security guard was killed at the Qatar Embassy in Paris (VIII district). A suspect was arrested by police on the spot, according to our information.

The crime occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the embassy at 1 Rue de Tilsitt, near the Champs-Élysées. The attacker allegedly forced his way into the embassy, whereupon an altercation with the security guard ensued. The latter was then brutally beaten and strangled.

Police quickly arrived on the scene and arrested the 38-year-old suspect. The man is already well known to police, according to a source familiar with the case. He is said to have shouted “Allah Akbar” at the time of the fatal attack.

The 44-year-old victim was being cared for by rescuers when it went into cardiac arrest, but could not be resuscitated. It was pronounced dead at the scene at 08:24. Investigations are still underway at the scene. The motives of the suspected killer are still unknown. He is now being investigated for his behavior and is said to be known for schizophrenia. He is said to have tested positive for cocaine.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into “intentional homicide” and entrusted it to the criminal brigade. The National Antiterrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) has not dealt with the case at this stage of the investigation.Actu17
