Election fraud? 1.1 million votes for Le Pen disappeared

According to the latest election results, Emmanuel Macron won the run-off on Sunday against his challenger Marine Le Pen. Now, however, people are asking whether electoral fraud may have been involved. Like in 2017?

At around 9.10pm yesterday (2:50:50 in the linked video with the recording of the France TV election broadcast, which had started at 6.21pm and ended at 10:54pm), the state of the count was as follows:

Marine Le Pen 14,432,396 votes
Emmanuel Macron 14,214,825 votes

This, according to the TV presenter, was the current status of the votes actually counted and reported according to the French Ministry of the Interior.

The moderator pointed out that these figures only took into account the polling stations counted up to that point, which were mostly located in smaller municipalities where people tended to vote for Le Pen rather than in the big cities. Therefore, the (at that time current) status of the count did not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the final result.

However, the official final result was then:

Marine Le Pen 13,297,760 votes
Emmanuel Macron 18,779,641 votes

So between 9.10 p.m. and the announcement of the official final result, Marine Le Pen lost over 1.1 million votes that had already been counted for her?

Very similar “inconsistencies” already occurred in the last French presidential election in 2017. 4.07 million French people are said to have cast invalid votes in that run-off election – also between Macron and Le Pen. Reports that ballot papers with Marine Le Pen’s name had already been delivered damaged (=invalid) were striking. This happened in various regions of France. The ballot papers were torn or had cut corners. And it was always the ballot papers for the national conservative candidate.
