According to a commuter newspaper, only “one million Austrians” are still unvaccinated. In truth there are more than twice as many.
Austria has 8,9 million inhabitants. Of these, around 72 percent have been vaccinated at least once. Therefore around 6,5 million people have received the jab which means there are still around 2,4 million unvaccinated people. But the Tamedia free newspaper 20 Minuten apparently cannot do the math.“One million Austrians are still not vaccinated. That’s too many!” the newspaper reported on December 9, quoting the Austrian constitution minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP). Edtstadler is said to have said this at the press conference, which was about the draft of the upcoming “Covid-19 mandatory vaccination law”.
Instead of reporting on the real numbers, 20 minutes simply misled its readers with the fake news headline.
Actually, Edtstadler said that well over a million Austrians were not vaccinated. Her statement is also confusing given the actual numbers even though it is not wrong.
