In reaction to rising knife violence in Germany, Bonn’s police chief Frank Hoever has said: “People of other cultures have a different relationship to knives.”
That was despite the fact that, statistically speaking, the number of violent knife crimes in Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, has dropped in the past year.
Hoever told Die Welt on April 13 that was only possible due to the major efforts of the local police to tackle the problem.
In 2023, stabbings rose by 45 per cent in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia, from 4,292 in 2022 to 6,221 such attacks in 2023.
The number of victims increased from 5,541 to 8,036.
Some 34 per cent of the suspects were non-Germans, despite such individuals only making up 15 per cent of the population.
In Bonn, the situation was similar, the police chief said.
“The perpetrators are young and male, and the proportion of non-German suspects is 40 per cent.”
About 16 per cent of the population of Bonn is non-German.
In addition, among the remaining 60 per cent of perpetrators, there was also a proportion with dual nationality, which was not listed separately in the statistics.
“That’s why I’m sticking to what I’ve said before: people from other cultures have a different relationship with knives,” Hoever said.
According to him, young men from other cultures have fallen prey to what he termed “exaggerated masculinity” and “power posturing.”
“Young men want to show off in front of the group and act tough. When insults are exchanged, things can quickly spiral out of control,” he said.
Bonn’s police chief stated he wanted to make it clear to young men what injuries could occur and how life-threatening they can be.
Speaking about the same issue on the German public TV channel ZDF, Dirk Baier, a criminologist from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, said he believed the increase in knife crime was probably caused by social inequality.
Deporting foreign offenders was, according to him, “not helpful.”
Local politicians and Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser called for more regulations targeting the misuse of weapons.
The federal head of the police union (GdP), Jochen Kopelke, suggested an amnesty for people who possess knives, rewarding those who handed them in, for example, he said, a Netflix subscription in exchange for a dangerous or illegal knife being handed in.
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has instructed X-ray operators to ask men if they are pregnant before conducting scans, reportedly prompting patients to “storm out” of appointments in anger over the absurdity of the question.
The so-called “inclusive” guidance was inspired by an incident in which a woman who presented as a man had a CT scan while unknowingly pregnant, thereby exposing her baby to dangerous radiation, The Telegraphreported.
However, NHS staff have stressed that the new guidelines pose a risk to the safety of patients by discouraging appointments due to the distress sparked in both men and women by the new appointment questions, which ask for their “sex at birth” and “preferred name and pronouns” and make “ridiculous” claims about “people who are born with variations in sex characteristics,” according to The Telegraph.
One man on an “urgent cancer pathway” “was so annoyed by the questions on the form, he shouted, he left the department and didn’t actually have a scan,” one radiographer told The Telegraph.
“There is an unnecessary risk for these patients if they do get so annoyed and don’t have the scan,” said the radiographer.
Women have also reportedly cried over “invasive” fertility questions, which now prompt for specific reasons behind infertility, triggering traumatic memories of miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies, which they are required to cite in background forms.
Staff say that patients of both sexes have been insulted or embarrassed by the suggestion that their sex is not necessarily apparent and that the forms are “indoctrinating” minors by asking them their preferred names and pronouns, while parents are “furious” about this.
According to the guidance, a patient should always be asked ‘What pronouns would you like me to use for you?’ and ‘How would you like to be addressed?’”
The questions were developed by the Society of Radiographers (SoR), who are “pushing a national rollout” according to insiders. General Practitioner Dr. Louise Irvina believes the guidelines are unnecessary given that “it should be possible for medical records to accurately record sex.”
She further stated, “Given that it is impossible for anyone of the male sex to become pregnant, there is no need to ask male people if they might be pregnant, and thereby avoid a lot of embarrassment and upset.”
An RTL documentary reveals that Afghan refugees are apparently going on holiday to their old homeland on a large scale, even though it is not officially considered a safe country of origin. According to the documentary, the holiday trips are organised by German travel agencies. Federal Minister of the Interior Faeser does not consider herself responsible.
Germany is on summer holidays and half the country is at a standstill. Those who still have holiday days are sitting somewhere on the beach, by the lake or in the mountains. But what is an annual pleasure for some in the country is officially only possible to a limited extent for others. According to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Afghan refugees, for example, are only allowed to travel to their home country in exceptional cases.
Which is understandable; after all, they came here precisely because they were persecuted and threatened in their home country. Afghanistan is officially considered so dangerous that Germany is not even allowed to send convicted criminals back there. Who would want to go on holiday there voluntarily?
According to research by RTLextra, however, this is exactly what happens, and it happens frequently: Afghan refugees go to their old homeland to see what’s going on, visit relatives there and have fun. Even so-called local forces are among those willing to travel – those former Bundeswehr helpers that Germany took out of Afghanistan after the Taliban took power because they are considered to be particularly at risk.
Afghan refugees report this in a research interview with RTL reporter Liv von Boetticher: ‘Many Afghans from Europe are currently going back on holiday.’ There are also clips on TikTok and other social media that tell of relaxed days in Afghanistan.
According to RTL’s research, various travel agencies support the refugees in planning the illegal trip via Iran to Afghanistan. The required visa – a so-called ‘double-entry visa’ – consists of a loose sheet of paper that can be easily removed from the passport after the journey. Anyone who has ever tried to simply keep their Austrian vignette in their wallet instead of sticking it to their windscreen will be amazed: a visa as a loose-leaf collection sounds a lot like a banana republic.
All of this is frightening. Even more frightening, however, is how Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser reacted when RTLextra confronted her with the research findings: Preventing travel with the ‘double-entry visa’ is not her job, but that of the local immigration authorities. The local authorities claim that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is responsible.
The authority ultimately passes the buck back to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. And the federal police? They claim that they are primarily responsible for immigration control at the airport; there are not enough staff to carry out additional checks on travellers leaving the country.
In extreme cases, refugees who travel to their country of origin without a comprehensible reason lose their protection and residence status. However, when asked how often the state has pulled this card in recent years, Thorsten Frei, Vice-Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for domestic and legal policy, simply replied that it was not known. Because no statistics are kept on this.
Germany is – once again – making a fool of itself internationally with such behaviour. Taking in people who can demonstrably no longer be sure of their lives in their home country is a humanitarian imperative. But despite all empathy, it must be expected that a certain number of free riders will always set off. And then spend the next few years on holiday at state expense – both here and, apparently, in their old home country. A country of origin that is not safe cannot also be a holiday paradise.
Taking care of people in need of protection who no longer have any need for protection at all: Germany can and should no longer afford to do this. And above all for reasons of humanity. Because as migration researcher Ruud Koopmans emphasises: ‘All the resources we spend on people who don’t actually need this protection can no longer be used for people who do need our protection.’

A 50 year-old trans-identified male from Italy is set to become the first man to compete in a women’s category at the Paris Paralympics. Valentina Petrillo, whose birth name is Fabrizio, who competes in the women’s T12 classification, for athletes with visual impairments, and currently holds 8 women’s running championship titles, despite failing to earn even one while competing as a male.
Petrillo has been diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a disorder of the eye that causes retinal degeneration over time. Due to this visual impairment, he has been permitted to compete in both matches designated for women with disabilities, as well as those which are not.
At the Paralympic Games, which are scheduled to run from August 28 to September 8, Petrillo will run in the women’s T12 200m and 400m. He was cleared to compete against female athletes, despite being a man, by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons. The IPC works closely with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the two have self-described as “strategic partners.”
Speaking to BBC Sport, Parsons revealed that the IPC does not enforce an official position for or against allowing men to self-identify into women’s sport, but rather “[allow] individual sports to make their rules in terms of transgender,” which results in rules that are “different from sport to sport.”
“Some are coming with different positions on transgender, or with the criteria to allow them or not to allow them, so I’m not surprised by the repercussions of it,” Parsons said. He added that he hoped the sporting community would “unite” on policies dealing with gender identity.
According to the World Para Athletics Championships guidance on participation, “an athlete shall be eligible to compete in women’s competition if she is recognized as female by law.” But their policy book goes on to note that it will “deal with any cases involving transgender athletes in accordance with the IOC’s transgender guidelines.”
Petrillo first changed his name to Valentina and began taking estrogen in 2019. The following year, he began competing against female athletes and has since broken multiple Italian women’s running records.
Speaking about his personal history with the BBC in June 2021, Petrillo said: “Until four years ago, if you’d talked to Fabrizio (the name Petrillo was given at birth), Fabrizio would have given you the idea he was sexist. He was a tough guy who’d speak dismissively of women and then be a woman in his private space.”
Mariuccia Quilleri, an athlete and lawyer who has represented several female athletes who oppose Petrillo’s participation in women’s races, told the BBC that inclusion had been chosen over fairness and “there is not much more we can do.”
Some of the female athletes that Petrillo has defeated in races have told Quilleri that they feel “discriminated against.” As early as 2021, just two years after Petrillo began competing against women, more than 30 female Master athletes signed a petition opposing men being permitted to identify into women’s sports.
Among the signatories were Cristina Sanulli and Denise Neumann, both of whom had previously won world and European Masters titles and have been regarded as the best in their events – but were outpaced by Petrillo at the Master’s Athletics Championships in Arezzo in October 2020.
As previously reported by Reduxx, in March 2023 Petrillo competed in and took first at the 200m race for women aged 50 to 54 at the Italian Indoor Masters Championship in Ancona. In the process, he also broke a women’s running record.
Leading up to the race, women’s rights advocacy group RadFem Italia contacted government officials to ensure that Petrillo would not be granted access to the women’s locker rooms. In response, Petrillo was provided with a designated changing room specifically for him at the race grounds.
During the controversy, Petrillo allegedly stated, “The state recognizes me as a woman, male genitals do not count.”
Petrillo soon after lashed out in a Facebook post wherein he equated criticism of his presence in women’s sports to Nazism, telling detractors they were “on the same level as Hitler” and comparing sex-based sports categories to a 1936 ban on Jewish athletes.
Upset at being denied the use of the women’s locker room, Petrillo wrote, “In Ancona, you made me have a terrible time, it is not fair… you’ve relegated me to a ‘dedicated’ locker room,” a situation which he claimed was similar to the segregation of those called appestati, or sufferers of a plague.
In July 2023, Petrillo seized the bronze medal in the women’s 400m T12 running competition at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, thereby qualifying for the 2024 games.
In September 2020, Petrillo raced in the women’s 100-, 200- and 400-meter competitions at the Italian Paralympic Athletics Championships in Jesolo, despite having not undergone the procedure euphemistically labeled sex reassignment surgery.
Additionally, Petrillo had not altered his identification documents, which still listed his sex as male, though this did not deter him from being granted permission to enter the match. He won first place in all three races and therefore qualified to represent Italy at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
At the last minute, however, the Italian government intervened and barred Petrillo from competing against women with disabilities at the Paralympics in 2021. The International Olympics Committee (IOC) had just announced updates to guidelines for trans-identifying competitors stating that male athletes must keep the levels of their testosterone below 10 nanomoles per liter for at least 12 months in order to participate.
After being awarded three gold medals at the Paralympics qualifiers, Petrillo dedicated his victory to Bologna-based trans activist organization Gruppo Trans APS, headed by a trans-identifying male named Milena Bargiacchi.
“I dedicated to them my victory in my favorite race,” Petrillo told OutSports. “Gruppo Trans supported me in my darkest hour, and they helped me find the answers I needed when I was questioning my identity and my life.”
Gruppo Trans lobbies for males to be allowed to compete in women’s sports and frequently employs Petrillo as a representative. He has spoken for Gruppo Trans on several occasions, and the organization is backing a documentary film about Petrillo’s life called “5 Nanomoles – The Olympic Dream of a Trans Woman.” The title is a reference to the maximum testosterone limit set by World Athletics in 2019 for trans-identifying males in order for them to be eligible to compete against women.
Petrillo has stated that he used to “try on his mother’s clothes” when he was younger, a behavior that until recently was considered a symptom of a sexual disorder known as transvestic fetishism. He has also said that prior to declaring a transgender identity, Petrillo would steal hiswife’s clothing. While describing a memory of “touching” his mother’s skirt for the first time, Petrillo said, “It was an incredible emotion. It was like touching heaven with your finger tip.”
In addition to partnering with Petrillo to campaign for males in women’s athletics events, Gruppo Trans also discusses “trans adolescents” and offers a variety of “training” programs through their website. Corporate diversity management training, courses for health care workers, and gender identity workshops for teachers are all available, as are lessons for children intended to be provided by instructors at schools.
Gruppo Trans’ website has a section dedicated to outreach for crossdressers, where counseling and Zoom sessions are offered. The point of contact is a man called Charlotte Verniani, who runs a lingerie and sex shop and engages in a fetish practice called “female masking,” a sexual activity which involves men donning a silicone “female” face mask, or, on occasion, a full-body silicone “woman suit.” Verniani, who works with Gruppo Trans alongside Petrillo, has stated that he believes that transvestites are “the last slaves.”
Seaborne illegal migration into Italy has seen an unprecedented drop this year as the deterrent policies of Giorgia Meloni’s conservative government have begun to bear fruit, the local daily Il Giornale reported on Tuesday, August 13th.
According to newly published official data, Rome registered a shocking 62.4% drop in illegal arrivals in 2024, with 37,000 migrants landing in Italy as of August 12th compared to nearly 100,000 in the same period last year.
2023 was especially bad in terms of illegal arrivals with the Southern Italian island of Lampedusa being the hardest hit of all landing sites. Around 120 boats carrying between 6-7,000 migrants arrived on the island on a single day in September, prompting commentators and lawmakers alike to describe the event as an “invasion.”
While Italy celebrates, however, other Mediterranean countries are being targeted by the same people smugglers in much higher numbers than before—Spain registered a 155% increase this year, and Greece a whopping 222%—showing that the problem of illegal migration has not gone away but simply pivoted to more vulnerable shores.
Spain is particularly exposed to illegal arrivals in the Canary Islands which are located just 100 km off the coast of West Africa and which continue to experience a record number of landings year by year. Greece’s vast archipelago also provides easy targets for human smugglers from North Africa, but a significant portion of the boats carrying Middle Eastern migrants are opting for the closer Cyprus instead, a tiny nation struggling under the weight of this newfound crisis.
Meanwhile, Meloni’s Italy also excels in “assisted returns,” in which migrants who voluntarily choose to return to their home countries are given administrative, logistical, or financial support to help them re-integrate. To compare, Italy conducted over 9,000 assisted returns to Libya and Tunisia in only the first six months of this year, while the total number in 2023 toward all countries of origin stood at around 3,200.
Despite early criticisms of ineffectiveness, Italy’s strategy for addressing illegal migration appears to be working as intended. It is based on two components: deterrence and diplomacy, working in unison to solve the problem in the middle and long-term as well.
For deterrence, Meloni reformed the country’s immigration system to shorten the asylum procedure, introduce more thorough age verification protocols, ramp up voluntary and involuntary returns, allow longer detention times to prevent failed asylum seekers from disappearing, and eliminate several legal loopholes that allowed both migrants and search and rescue NGOs to easily abuse the system.
The most important factor, however, is said to be Italy’s off-shore asylum centers that are being built in Albania, just across the Adriatic Sea. Since those facilities are not located on EU soil, Italian officials can be even more effective in screening and deporting illegal migrants posing as refugees, who’ll have no chance of escaping the law and disappearing into other EU countries through the Schengen Area.
The project’s future role in deterring even more would-be illegal migrants is hard to overstate considering that it has not even been finished yet. Although the migrant reception centers in Albania were planned to be officially opened by August 1st, setbacks during construction caused months of delays, but Rome still promises that they will be operational before the end of this year. They will be capable of holding and processing up to 36,000 asylum seekers annually, which will be the majority of all sea arrivals if the current decreasing trend continues.
On the diplomatic front, Meloni’s strategy is to invest into key transit and origin countries throughout Africa which can help combat criminal organizations that facilitate human smuggling in exchange for structural funds that help contribute to their overall macroeconomic stability. After initial setbacks, the scheme now appears to be working well especially with Tunisia, which received Italian (and EU) money to develop its trade and energy infrastructure as well as to mitigate the effects of climate change.
King’s Counsel Gregory Jones has ruled that Archbishop Justin Welby was “plainly wrong” in failing to defend a priest who was barred from preaching for five years after giving a sermon at a private school telling children they could question gender ideology.
In 2021, the Reverend Dr. Bernard Randall, Anglican chaplain of Trent College, was fired from his job and reported to the British government’s anti-terrorism program for telling students it is okay to question the LGBT ideology being taught at the school.
In a June 2019 sermon titled “Competing Ideologies,” Dr. Randall — who previously served as a chaplain for Cambridge University before joining Trent College — responded to students’ queries regarding whether “we have to accept all of this LGBT stuff in a Christian school.”
“Now when ideologies compete, we should not descend into abuse, we should respect the beliefs of others, even where we disagree,” Randall said. “Above all, we need to treat each other with respect, not personal attacks – that’s what loving your neighbor as yourself means.”
Archbishop Welby: Failure to Act on Climate Means 'Infinitely Greater' Genocide Than Holocaust https://t.co/zglP6vPulz
“You should no more be told you have to accept LGBT ideology than you should be told you must be in favor of Brexit or must be Muslim — to both of which I’m sure most of you would quite rightly object,” he declared.
Trent College had invited the educational charity “Educate and Celebrate” to their campus in 2018, in order to make their school more LGBT-friendly. The head of Educate and Celebrate, Dr. Elly Barnes, had openly stated that the purpose of the charity is to “completely smash heteronormativity, that’s what we want to do.”
On Tuesday, the Telegraph noted that Dr. Randall remains barred from preaching “after a decision by the Bishop of Derby, the Right Reverend Libby Lane, the church’s first female bishop.”
Dr. Randall has been unable to get another job because Bishop Lane has refused to grant him a license or a permission to officiate without going through a risk assessment. Lane’s safeguarding team had ruled that Randall could pose a risk of harm to children because of his position on LGBT issues.
His sermon raised concerns about how he “would speak to and support someone who came to him if they were struggling with their sexuality,” the team concluded.
Reviewing Randall’s case on behalf of the Anglican clergy discipline tribunal, Gregory Jones said the case was “egregious” and the Church’s “error gross” in dealing with the priest.
Randall had filed an official complaint on the basis of flawed proceedings, asserting that Bishop Lane “discriminated against me on the grounds of my orthodox beliefs on gender and sexual orientation.”
Archbishop Welby blocked the case, however, declaring that while there were “lessons in this case,” there was “insufficient substance” for a case against Bishop Lane personally.
The refusal by the Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, to allow Dr. Randall to bring a misconduct case against Bishop Lane, was “plainly wrong,” the King’s Counsel said, adding that the archbishop had “misunderstood the scope of his powers.”
Given that the sermon was not in conflict with the Church’s doctrine, any finding that Dr. Randall would “pose a risk of harm to young children” would need to be carefully explained, he noted.
The archbishop “does not identify where can be found the reasons and evidence base justifying the conclusion that there were sufficient safeguarding concerns” which could justify refusing a license, he said.
Dr. Randall said that safeguarding had been “weaponized” as a political tool against a theological position which is wholly consistent with the Church’s doctrine.
“The problems run far deeper than my own case,” he told the Telegraph. “A Church which can turn against its own teaching is deeply unhealthy.”
Randall said it seemed as if “the archbishop’s knee-jerk reaction was to protect a senior colleague, rather than to seek justice or reconciliation.”
A much publicized recorded conversation between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has generated 1 billion views, according to the former.
Musk, who owns X (formerly Twitter), spoke with Trump for nearly two hours last night on the social media platform. The conversation was delayed by a “massive distributed denial of service attack,” Musk said. The hackers’ attack showed “there’s a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say.”
The European Union also sent a letter to Musk warning him that he had obligations to avoid posting “harmful content” that would “generate detrimental effects on civic discourse.”
Meanwhile, the Tesla CEO said Trump must win “for the good of the country.”
The pair talked about illegal immigration, the economy under Trump, the recent assassination attempt upon the former president, and crime.
Musk said he has “historically” been a “moderate Democrat” and explained why he is backing Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
“I feel like we’re really at a critical juncture for the country,” he said during the conversation. “I think a lot of people thought, you know, that the Biden administration would be a moderate administration, but it’s not,” he said.
He said Kamala Harris will move even “further left” than Biden.
“I mean, her dad is literally… a Marxist economist,” Musk said. (Even left-wing Snopes has acknowledged Stanford University Professor Donald Harris is a Marxist.)
Musk also said that Harris is “far left” but there is a “propaganda” campaign to remake her into a moderate.
“And we’re seeing just an overnight propaganda attempt to rewrite history and make it sound like Kamala’s moderate when she in fact is not moderate,” Musk said.
Trump pointed out that Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is also a radical. As governor, he signed a law requiring boys’ bathrooms to provide female hygiene products.
“Well, her running mate approved, signed into legislation tampons in boys’ bathrooms, okay? Now that’s all I have to hear, tampons in boys’ bathrooms,” the former president said. “And that means she believes in that, too. I mean, she picked this guy because he was the closest to her.”
“If we have her as a president, if we have a Democrat at this moment as the president, I don’t think our country can survive,” Trump warned.
Both talked about “common sense” views and the need to avoid the country turning into a nation-sized San Francisco or California.
“I think these are issues that I think most people in America would agree with, which is that we want safe and clean cities,” Musk said. “We want secure borders” and “sensible government spending,” as well as a fair judicial system.
Open borders are ‘existential issue,’ Musk says
Unchecked illegal immigration is a threat to the country and an “existential issue,” according to Musk.
“Whether it’s a question of intention or competence, either way, we don’t have a secure border and we have people streaming over like it looks like a World War Z zombie apocalypse at times,” Musk said, referencing Vice President Harris’ role as border czar.
Referencing a trip he took to the border, Musk said the people crossing “did not look friendly.”
“These are rough people,” Trump said in agreement.
“The caravans are coming in… and who’s doing this is the heads of the countries,” Trump said.
“The fact is it’s brilliant for them because they’re [sending] all their bad people, really bad people,” he warned and stated that among the illegal migrants were people who are lazy or won’t work.
He added: “And they’re also getting rid of their of their murderers and their drug dealers and the people that are really brutal people.”
He also suggested that foreign countries are sending prisoners into the USA to save the money it would cost to keep them in jail.
Trump criticized Harris for suggesting that she is going to start securing the border, noting that she has not done so since taking office in 2021.
“I think this is a fundamental existential issue for the United States,” Musk said during the interview. “And if we have another four more years of open borders, and it’s gonna be even worse. With another four more years, it’s gonna be even worse than it’s been for the past three and a half years.”
“I’m not sure we’ve got a country,” the Tesla CEO warned.
The pair also discussed how relatively few of the migrants are from neighboring Mexico.
“It’s Earth, the rest of Earth,” Musk said.
Musk and Trump also discussed some of the more radical elements of the environmentalist agenda. Though Musk owns an electric car company, he also supports the use of oil and gas. Trump pointed out that most electricity still comes from oil and gas.
“Even to create your electric car and create the electricity needed for the electric car, you know, fossil fuel is what really creates that at the generating plants,” Trump said.
Musk was more pessimistic, saying the country may need to move away from oil and gas, but that even in 100 years the country would “probably be okay” in terms of fuel. He said there should not be “hardship” in moving away from oil and gas.
He suggested that both solar and nuclear power could provide more energy in the future.
The conversation between the CEO and the former POTUS also covered the “lawfare” against Trump, who has been targeted with questionable charges and novel legal theories, including in New York. There, a left-wing prosecutor named Alvin Bragg got the president convicted on questionable charges of campaign finance violations for alleged hush money payments he made to a porn actress. The decision has drawn criticism from legal experts.
“It does happen in banana republics and third world countries, but it’s never happened [here],” Trump said.
The former president also declared that Harris would harm the country if elected president, saying that she “destroyed” San Francisco and California while in power there. Harris served as the district attorney for San Francisco prior to running for attorney general.
Harris is “radical left,” Trump said.
“She is a San Francisco liberal who destroyed San Francisco. And then as attorney general, she destroyed California,” Trump said.
“Our country is becoming a very dangerous place,” Trump warned shortly after those comments. “And she is a radical left, San Francisco liberal.”
A Labour MP has sparked outrage after blaming violent riots on Israel.
Norwich South MP Clive Lewis linked Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza with the recent unrest witnessed in England and Northern Ireland.
The former Shadow Defence Secretary, who was forced to retake his oath of allegiance after staging a protest, argued the “inhumanity” shown towards Palestinians led to rising Islamophobia in the UK.
Lewis came under fire from campaigners, with the Labour Party receiving a complaint from Labour Against Antisemitism.
In his original post, Lewis said: “The link between the daily inhumanity being meted out to Palestinians and rising Islamophobia in the UK, are not unconnected.
“The inhumanity being shown to one is giving ‘permission’ for the other. These actions diminish us all.”
Alex Hearn, the co-director of the Labour Against Antisemitism, branded Lewis’ comments as “highly irresponsible” and urged Sir Keir Starmer to remove the whip.
The Prime Minister’s spokeswoman appeared to indicate Starmer does not share Lewis’ view.
She said: “No, he would completely disagree.”
However, the Labour Party has so far rejected demands to suspend the Norwich South MP.
A Labour Party spokesman said: “All complaints are treated seriously and thoroughly assessed in line with our rules and procedures.”
Ex-Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, who lost the whip after rebelling over the two-child benefit cap, leapt to Lewis’ defence.
He said: “It’s a bizarre warped logic that accuses Clive Lewis of antisemitism when he comments on how the visible inhumanity towards Muslims in Gaza displayed daily on our screens feeds into the inhumanity of some in our own country towards Muslims here.”
Riots were sparked across England and Northern Ireland following the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport on July 29.
More than 920 people were arrested, with 466 being charged.
Unrest spread after misinformation circulated about the perpetrator of the knife attack, with mosques and hotels housing asylum seekers being attacked.
However, Lewis’ suggestion comes after antisemitic incidents reached record highs following Hamas’ atrocious October 7 attack.
The Community Security Trust recorded reports of 1,978 anti-Jewish hate incidents between January and June, up from 964 in the first half of 2023.
Islamophobic sentiment has also been on the rise, with London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressing his own fears.
Speaking to journalists last week, Khan said: “Like a lot of people of my generation, I felt triggered by the events of the last couple of weeks in particular.
“It’s difficult to explain the ripples when you’ve been targeted because of your religion or colour of your skin and you can’t change either of those things.
“And whether you’re seeing physical acts of violence taking place in the North West or the North East, you feel it in London.
“What’s heartbreaking to me is my children’s generation had never experienced what I had. And they, for the first time, were scared.
“I thought I’d be the last generation to be scared, simply for who I am. And it breaks my heart.”
American comedian Reginald D. Hunter made an anti-Israel comment during a stand-up show in Edinburgh, UK, sparking a show of anti-Israel sentiment from the audience and animosity towards an Israeli couple who held front-row tickets, The Telegraph‘s Dominic Cavendish reported.
At the Sunday night performance, Hunter compared a scene in a documentary about an abusive wife claiming her husband was abusive to Israel’s self-defense in its war against Hamas in Gaza.
Commenting on the documentary scene, Hunter said, “My God, it’s like being married to Israel.” Some in the audience laughed at the remark, but a couple in the front row, who said they were from Israel, shouted, “Not funny.”
According to Cavendish, upon hearing the Israeli couple’s response, others in the audience began shouting expletives, telling them to go, and shouting, “genocidal maniac,” “you’re not welcome,” and, “free Palestine.”
Hunter then turned to the couple himself, saying, “I’ve been waiting for you all summer, where the f— you been? You can say it’s not funny to you, but if you say it to a room full of people who laughed, you look foolish.”
After the woman remonstrated with the audience, he added, “Look at you making everyone love Israel even more.”
After the couple left, with Hunter laughing at them as they made their slow – due to the husband’s disability – exit, he turned to the rest of the audience, saying, “That tells me that I still got voltage.”
Cavendish noted that Hunter then recalled to the audience a remark that his partner made during controversy about accessing the Jewish Chronicle‘s website: “Typical f—ing Jews, they won’t tell you anything unless you subscribe.” But he added, “It’s just a joke.”
