Heavily Catholic state in Austria cannot find any doctors to commit abortions

 A heavily Catholic Austrian state cannot find doctors to commit abortions in public hospitals.

The German Catholic website Kath.net reported that the Tyrol government “failed” in its attempt to find doctors willing to murder the unborn in the western Austrian state, which has more than 750,000 inhabitants. More than 60 percent of Tyrol residents are Catholic, according to a 2021 survey.

“Two doctors who would have been considered for the position have withdrawn their consent,” Kath.net reported.

“This means that all unborn children in public hospitals in the state of Tyrol remain protected from abortions,” so long as the abortions are not “medically indicated,” the outlet continued. Direct abortion is always gravely immoral and never needed nor ethically justifiable to save a mother’s life.

Kath.net noted: 

One can only speculate about the reasons, but doctors see what the so-called ‘pregnancy tissue’ really is: a dead or dying child. In some cases they even have to actively kill a healthy, viable child by tearing (him or her) apart during suction or by giving a lethal injection to the heart. Many doctors classify this as a violation of the basic principles of medical ethics and the Hippocratic Oath.

Abortion is unpunishable in Austria in the first three months of pregnancy. It is also permitted when there would allegedly be a “danger” to the mother’s life or physical or mental health or a possibility that the child would be disabled.

A child’s disability status or circumstances of conception do not nullify his or her fundamental right to life or determine his or her worthiness not to be killed.

The Catholic Church condemns abortion as a grave sin in all circumstances and affirms the inviolable right to life of every child from conception.

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life,” the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches (2270).

“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable,” it states (2271).

Germany: 4 Syrian suspects in brutal stabbing of teacher already released

After a teacher was stabbed in an adult education center in Wedel near the city of Hamburg, the four brothers — all from Syria, have already been released from police custody. The teacher is still fighting for his life after being seriously injured in the attack.

The Syrians are aged 17, 19, and 21, and allegedly targeted the teacher, with one of the twin 21-year-olds stabbing the man in the face and neck.

Despite the brutal nature of the incident, a spokeswoman from the Itzehoe police department said there were no grounds to keep them in custody even if they remain at the center of the investigation, according to German newspaper Welt.

“The four are still suspected of the crime, but the suspicion is currently not sufficient to issue an arrest warrant against them,” said police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld.

On Friday afternoon, the 67-year-old music teacher from Tornesch was stabbed, allegedly by two Syrians. With the last bit of strength, the victim was able to flee out of the building while bleeding profusely. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the spokeswoman refused to comment on the relationship of the attackers and the victim, besides saying: “They must have known each other.”

The four Syrian brothers were arrested after the attack, but the police spokeswoman refused to state whether the men were students of the teacher.

Wedel’s mayor, Julia Fisauli-Aalto, of the Christian Democrats (CDU), stated. “I am deeply shaken and shocked that such an act has happened in our small town,” she said, adding that her thoughts and deep sympathy are with the injured man and his family.

The Left Fear-Mongers Over Vance’s Tolkien Influence: “Vance believes there is real spiritual evil in this world”

Immediately in the wake of the announcement at the Republican National Convention that JD Vance is Donald Trump’s pick for running mate, the leftist media predictably launched a fear-mongering campaign to demonize the young populist. The politics of personal destruction – it’s their go-to strategy, rather than addressing the issues. And one of the first scary red flags they warned about is the influence on the future Vice President of Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien.

On Tuesday, MSNBC mainstay propagandist Rachel Maddow suggested that Vance and “his mentor,” venture capitalist Peter Thiel, were both inspired by “alt-right” and “Aryan” messaging in Tolkien’s vastly popular fantasy epic. Maddow stated,

Like Mr. Thiel, who has named his companies after things in The Lord of the Rings series of J.R.R. Tolkien books. Lord of the Rings is a, sort of, a favorite cosmos for naming things and cultural references for a lot of far-right and alt-right figures within Europe and the United States. Peter Thiel names things after Tolkien figures and places like his company, Palantir, for example.

Palantir, to be clear, is the crystal ball used by the wizard Saruman in Lord of the Rings. And for the record, “alt-right” is an absolutely meaningless smear label the Left throws around to fear-monger about a right-wing Threat to Democracy™. They call any and every conservative from Ben Shapiro to Steve Bannon “alt-right.” The more of a political threat someone is to the Left, the alt-righter they’re tagged.

Maddow added,

Mr. Vance also, when he founded his own venture capital firm, with help from Peter Thiel, named it after a Lord of the Rings thing, he called in Narya, N-A-R-Y-A, which you can remember because it’s “Aryan,” but you move the N to the front. Apparently, that word has something to do with elves and rings from The Lord of the Rings series, I don’t know.

Maddow doesn’t know, but more specifically, she doesn’t care to know. Her aim is not to understand or to help her audience understand, but to smear the political threat Vance as a neo-Nazi. In fact, Narya is the name of one of the Rings of Power in the Tolkien books; it inspires its bearer to resist tyranny, domination, and despair, which makes it a perfect symbol for resistance to the leftist agenda. It is not a dog whistle for Aryan racism.

Maddow also wouldn’t know this about Tolkien, because leftists despise culture that smacks of “whiteness,” but he was no closet Nazi. Newbusters, for example, reports that he “had no tolerance for such people.” Asked in 1938 to prove his Aryan ancestry by a German publisher that was considering translating The Hobbit, Tolkien replied,

Thank you for your letter. I regret that I am not clear as to what you intend by arisch. I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-Iranian; as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects. But if I am to understand that you are enquiring whether I am of Jewish origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people.

I have been accustomed, nonetheless, to regard my German name with pride, and continued to do so throughout the period of the late regrettable war, in which I served in the English army. I cannot, however, forbear to comment that if impertinent and irrelevant inquiries of this sort are to become the rule in matters of literature, then the time is not far distant when a German name will no longer be a source of pride.

Other left-wing outlets also jumped last week on Vance’s apparently alarming admiration of Tolkien. In an article titled, “How Lord of the Rings Shaped JD Vance’s Politics,” for example, Politico reported that in a 2021 podcast Vance was asked to name his favorite author, and he responded, “I would have to say Tolkien. I’m a big Lord of the Rings guy, and I think, not realizing it at the time, but a lot of my conservative worldview was influenced by Tolkien growing up.”

Of Tolkien’s colleague C.S. Lewis, another enormously popular Christian author, Vance added that he is a “[b]ig fan of C.S. Lewis — really sort of like that era of English writers. I think they were really interesting. They were grappling, in part because of World War II, with just very big problems.”

Politico went on to make the same point Maddow did about Thiel and Vance naming their companies from the Tolkien trilogy. As for “Narya,” the outlet quotes John Shelton, policy director for Advancing American Freedom and another Tolkien fan, who explains.

By the time of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Narya has been entrusted to [the good wizard] Gandalf to resist the corrupting influence of evil, preserve the world from decay, and give strength to its wielder. Gandalf, unlike the other great powers in Lord of the Rings, cared for the hobbits and other lowly people of Middle-Earth, and so it is unsurprising that Vance would see himself as a kind of Gandalf, caring for the forgotten people of his hometown, keeping a watchful eye on them against the corrupting effects of the world.

Politico also cites Catholic University of America professor Luke Burgis, who said he suspects

Vance’s appreciation of Tolkien is not unrelated to his conversion to Catholicism in 2019. Of the many ways that Tolkien’s work exemplifies the Catholic imagination, one is the relationship between the visible and the invisible. I think it’s fair to say that Vance believes there is real spiritual evil in this world, and it can become embodied in rites and rituals.

Burgis reportedly told Political that Vance likely took away from Tolkien “an apocalyptic frame of mind” about “a final and all-encompassing battle between good and evil.” Politico added that “at a closed-door speech in September 2021, Vance said, ‘I believe the devil is real and that he works terrible things in our society.’”

Well, he ain’t wrong. It’s very difficult to look at the degenerate state of our culture today, a culture that has been shaped and dominated for over half a century by the Left, and not see satanic influence everywhere, from demonic drag queens to the gender-ideology rejection of biological truth to the Left’s sexualization of children. But the Marxist Left denies this Christian worldview of the world being a battleground of Good and Evil.

Unlike MSNBC, Politico refrained from smearing Vance as an “Aryan,” but it did claim lamely that “Vance’s love of Lord of the Rings is of a piece with rightward nationalists abroad.” Rightward nationalists, by the way, is a leftist dog-whistle for “deplorables who resist surrendering national sovereignty to globalist authoritarians.” What is Politico’s evidence that rightward nationalists unite over Lord of the Rings? The outlet notes only that “Italy’s Giorgia Meloni used to cosplay as a hobbit.” Wow, that’s damning.

Former senator Rick Santorum, whom Politico calls “a fellow Tolkien-pilled Catholic,” apparently told the outlet he “believes that the message of Tolkien is that evil must be confronted. And so the idea is that well, we can wait until it comes to the Shire, but that is not a very good game plan. You gotta go to [the evil realm of] Mordor.”

Politico concludes by citing conservative author Rod Dreher, who stated that ever since Vance’s conversion to Catholicism, the rising star has been “thinking broadly about how all must join in the great struggle against darkness — there is no avoiding the struggle — and how God can use the humble and the lowborn to do great things.”

The Left is unsettled – terrified, actually – by conservative opponents who acknowledge, as Tolkien and C.S. Lewis did, the eternal conflict of Good versus Evil, who understand the very real nature of spiritual warfare, and who are prepared to arm themselves with the full armor of God. Judeo-Christian morality and spirituality are obstacles to the Left’s utopian schemes and lust for worldly power, and JD Vance is a threat to the Left not only as a politician, but as a spiritual warrior – a potentially greater threat than Donald Trump himself.

Internal party war in the Hamburg Social Democratic Party (SPD): Turkish comrades tear down the election posters of their German comrades

The accusation is serious: racism. A political death sentence, one would think.
But the accused party member of the Harburg Social Democratic Party fought back and sent the police to his opponent’s house. They in turn cooperated.

The background: two comrades, one of German and one of Turkish origin, had got into an argument. The reason was eight election posters for a German comrade, which, according to the accusation, had been damaged by the Turk in May. Indeed, the German comrade even succeeded in having the Hamburg district court raid the homes of six Turkish party members, including two board members of the Harburg Social Democratic Party (SPD), in order to secure evidence.

The Hamburg public prosecutor’s office emphasised that it was a case of joint damage to property and that the district court had taken the overall circumstances into account when conducting the house searches.

Disproportionate, as the lawyer of one of the accused, also an SPD man, told broadcaster NDR 90,3. In the case of one boy (two of the accused are only 17 years old, note uncensored), more than half a dozen police officers had entered his parents’ home in the early hours of the morning and had “asked the teenager to raise his hands in bed”.

And the lawyer immediately has the accusation of racism at the ready:

Someone here obviously wants to prevent promising members of the Harburg SPD of Turkish origin from getting onto favourable places on the party list.

The Turkish applicants for the candidate positions for the municipal elections felt discriminated against.

What a dilemma! What a reproach! What an evil deed! The higher city party leadership immediately asked the other Turkish members of the SPD whether they felt discriminated against. Like a talking doll, the Hamburg SPD explained that ‘nobody in its ranks was or is discriminated against on the basis of age, migration background or for other reasons’. The nomination of candidates for the election would be ‘open, transparent and fair’.

So ‘fair’, in fact, that the entire party has been in turmoil ever since Oksan Karakus, a Turkish woman, was elected head of Harburg’s SPD – in a surprisingly crucial vote.

Ireland: Unrest Grows As Anti-Migration Clashes Spread Beyond Dublin

Civil disobedience against the introduction of asylum centres in the Republic of Ireland continues to gather steam. The working-class suburb of Coolock in north Dublin saw anger over the planned transformation of a former paint factory into an asylum centre, culminating in a string of arson attacks.

Riot police were also deployed to republican stronghold Dundalk, where its community rallied under the banner “Dundalk Says No” against plans to convert a former orphanage into accommodation for 260 displaced Ukrainians.

In both cases, hundreds of locals risked arrest to voice their concern that the Irish state is prioritising the welfare of migrants over their own well-being.

Local hostility to the official ‘open borders’ policy of Ireland’s ruling politicians illustrates the chasm between the two sides—with the establishment continually accusing locals of racism and criminality for protesting about housing shortages or migrant crime.

The Dundalk protest was addressed by local speakers, including Councillor Malachy Steenson, a recently elected nationalist municipal politician. He declared recently that Dundalk, and the country at large, were living in “revolutionary times”—meaning that anti-immigration agitation is changing politics across the Republic.

Dundalk is politically synonymous with Sinn Féin—Ireland’s left-wing opposition party—and republican militancy due to its close proximity to Northern Ireland.

In Dublin, authorities were forced to take the embarrassing decision to effectively abandon a prospective asylum centre after at least five separate arson attacks. Locals reportedly took to the streets repeatedly to celebrate whenever smoke was seen rising from the burning premises. Somali refugee encampments were also attacked in inner city Dublin.

The growing protests are forcing the Irish government to change tactics over its dysfunctional asylum policy, promising to move away from using converted hotels and local housing accommodation and towards placing applicants for international protection into disused office blocks.

Ireland’s asylum crisis means that tweaking the policy cannot conceal the disconnection between rulers and ruled on the question of mass migration.

Police service An Garda Síochána—which claimed that anti-migrant protests were a diversionary tactic tying it up in order to conduct arson attacks—stands accused of a failure to provide adequate resources to frontline officers. Speaking on national radio, a retired Garda Sergeant complained that force personnel were effectively becoming “lambs to the slaughter” due to low morale and underfunding. 

Warnings were issued in the Irish press that the personal details of police officers were being disseminated online. These latest humiliations follow the Dublin government being forced to import water cannons from Belfast in response to anti-migration rioting that rocked Dublin last November.

As hysteria against the rise of the so-called far right continues, the Irish media broke news of an alleged plot to assassinate former Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Leo Varadkar, involving at least one member of the country’s security forces. Separately, the arrest was made of a balaclava-wearing man whose viral video came to the attention of authorities when he threatened to kill Sinn Féin opposition leader Mary Lou McDonald.

Australian “Trans Inclusive” Football Club With FIVE Male Players Dominates Women’s Leagues After Being Accused Of Injuring Female Players

An Australian football club for “self-identified women and non-binary people” has been dominating women’s competitions, just weeks after concerns were raised about the safety risks to actual female players. The Flying Bats Football Club in North Sydney has at least five males who identify as transgender on the team, and has previously been accused of causing career-changing injuries to female competitors.

As previously revealed by Reduxx, one of the five men on the women’s football team is trans activist YouTuber Riley Dennis, who was previously accused of severely injuring women while participating on another women’s team in the region. But the Flying Bats attracted even more controversy earlier this year after audio recorded during a March 20 meeting of the North Sydney Football Association was leaked.

During the meeting, Frank Parisi, president of St. Patrick’s Football Club, described another incident in which a female player was so severely injured by a trans-identified male Flying Bats player that she was no longer able to participate in the sport.

“A couple of years ago, one of the Flying Bats players broke one of our players’ legs in a game. It was a clumsy tackle from behind. Our player had her leg broken in two places and she’s no longer playing football. It was a direct result of a real bad, tall player… he didn’t get a red card. Accidents happen, but this could have been avoided,” Parisi was heard saying in audio that was released by Reduxx on X.

“One of our players rushed over to try to help her, she was screaming in so much pain. At that time, she made a derogatory remark to the Bats player, which we apologized for. [She was] suspended. The Bats player, nothing happened to [him].” Parisi clarified that following this incident, the female player who was injured was suspended from matches for a total of eight weeks.

Parisi further revealed that 24 women had recently withdrawn their registration with his football club as a “direct result” of the possibility of competing in a match against the males on the Flying Bats team. “They’ve all said to me, ‘Frank, we do not want to play against the Bats players.’ I’m going to say it straight, there’s men playing in a women’s competition. And that’s wrong.”

The March 20 meeting Parisi spoke at was spurred by concerns that had begun to circulate amongst coaches and players regarding the safety of matching females against males. But, speaking to Reduxx earlier this year, Parisi also noted that there had also been some anxiety surrounding “how implausible it had become for any team to win against the Flying Bats.”

That implausibility appears to have been accentuated over the past few weeks, as the Flying Bats has dominated the leaderboards in every single match they have had since April 7. In 10 of the 13 matches the played during this time, the all-female teams have not been able to score a single goal against the Flying Bats.

At the most recent match, which took place on July 21 between the Flying Bats and the North Epping Rangers, the Rangers lost 0-12 against the Bats.

The discrepancy was highlighted by Australian women’s rights advocate and journalist Lucy Zelić, who stated that she was pursuing a response from the North West Sydney Football Association on the fairness of the competitions.

During the March 20 meeting, which was attended by CEO of Football NSW John Tsatsimas and convened by CEO of NWSF, Matthew Geracitano, attendees were told that a decision to boycott participation by forfeiting matches against The Flying Bats would result in “disciplinary action” being issued.

“If there was a concerted effort by teams to forfeit games against a particular opposition that would be viewed as an act of discrimination,” said Chris Salmon, Chair of the Board of Directors for NWSF. While incidents of discrimination are weighed on a case-by-case basis, possible penalties include suspensions, from as little as two months to two years.

Football Australia’s Anti-Discrimination Policy defines “excluding people on the basis of their sex and / or gender identity status from participation in a competitive sporting activity” as a prohibited form of discrimination.

Already, critics are questioning Kamala Harris’s mental health now that Joe Biden’s handlers removed him from the race and threw their support behind Miss Word Salad.

Pundits are questioning her verbal diarrhea.

That didn’t take long.

Kamala Harris’s rambling ‘word salad’ speeches may be a symptom of a little-known but common psychological condition called logorrhoea — also known as verbal diarrhoea.

The US Vice President, who was endorsed by Joe Biden after he bowed out of the presidential race on Sunday, is known for her jumbled, sometimes incoherent speaking style.

Some of her most infamous speeches have included ones about the ‘significance of the passage of time’ and the ‘need to get to go and need to be able to get where you need to go’.

A baffling anecdote about falling out of a coconut tree has also been a rich resource for internet meme-makers, and a study that analysed Ms Harris’s speech during a vice presidential debate concluded that ‘social factors’ were the most likely cause of her ‘word salad’ rambling.

Germany: Isis terror attack during England’s Euro final ‘foiled hours before kick off’

A terror attack was allegedly planned on England’s fan zone in Berlin during the Euro 2024 final against Spain.

Police raided a series of addresses hours before kick off on July 14, fearing an imminent attack.

The assault was planned on fans gathering to watch the match in Breitscheidplatz in Germany’s capital, it was claimed.

Three suspects were detained after coordinated raids in nearby Potsdam, the Sun reported. 

They were reportedly under surveillance as they were suspected of being terror supporters, with plans to target the football tournament.

After photos were allegedly found taken on phones of Breitscheidplatz and a large church, the concerns became greater.

A spokesperson for Berlin Police said: ‘The homes of three men were searched at three addresses in Potsdam.

Forces from the special task forces were involved in the operation.

‘The measures were carried out in connection with an immediate threat from the Islamist spectrum.’

The suspects were released under investigation and the exact nature of the alleged plot was not reported.

It comes amid heightened fears of terror attacks on major events.

Large parts of Paris have been restricted ahead of the Olympic Games beginning on Friday.

Isis previously posted a mocked up propaganda image showing an armed drone flying into the Eiffel Tower, saying the event was a target.

Austria: Teachers flee Vienna schools over mass migration, with 20 teachers quitting on a ‘peak day’

Teachers are quitting schools in Vienna in droves, with up to 20 teachers quitting per day due to the extremely stressful environments featuring mostly migrant children, many of whom do not speak German or very little German.

According to a study by the Austrian Statistical Office, around 70 percent of school-age children in Vienna do not speak German in their everyday life. Now, the rise of mass immigration has created growing problems in the Austrian school system, with the Vienna school system threatening to collapse.

Austrian politicians were more or less backing German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s idealistic approach to mass immigration from Muslim countries during the first big wave of migration in 2015. Now, Austrian schools are no longer able to cope with the problem they have been entrusted with because integration is still not a compulsory subject for immigrants.

According to teachers’ union member Thomas Krebs, teachers are fleeing Vienna’s compulsory schools “in droves.” However, the Vienna state government does not offer any useful ideas on how to deal with the increasing influx of students.

“On one peak day, I even received 20 reports of staff terminating (their contract) for the coming school year,” he stated.

Krebs notes the resignation wave is down to the Vienna state government failing to require sufficient German language skills when entering school and failure to take action against violence, extremism, and misogyny,

One of the biggest problems is simply the volume of migrants, and family reunification, which has seen a virtually unlimited flow of migrants into the capital city. He states that in order to save Vienna’s compulsory schools, “everyone who wants a place in a school must have German language skills; sanctions for violent and extremist students; a suspension of family reunification; and zero tolerance for misogyny, homophobia and anti-Semitism.”

In addition, state authorities need to offer security to teachers and ensure that the state sends a. message that inclusion does not come at any price.

In many schools, the situation is dire. Evelyn Kometter, chairwoman of the umbrella organization of parents’ associations across Austria, notes, “The teacher has to repeat a sentence 10 to 12 times until it is finally understood. But by then, two-thirds of the lesson is already over.”

In her role, Kometter is facing a never-ending deluge of parents complaining about the situations in their classrooms. “For example, there is a mother whose son is in a class with 22 students — only three of whom can speak German.” The result is pure chaos. “The teacher is not taken seriously and is not understood.”

The government’s response is not to improve the situation between teachers and students, but instead race to make space for more newcomers. Krebs states that all green space is being paved over, the government is building container classrooms, and huge school extensions are being constructed. However, there is no government concept beyond this.

“They can think of nothing better to do than to plow up the last green spaces and sports facilities for schools with excavators and construction equipment and to pave them over with containers and huge extensions without any real plan,” said Krebs.

The FPÖ is the only party raising the alarm

Austria’s most popular party, according to polling, the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), is also sounding the alarm, stating that the unchecked consequences of the past decade’s uncontrolled immigration are now “palpable in schools.” Now, asylum seekers are adding 300 new students a month to Vienna’s schools, children who do not meet any of the prerequisites for school attendance, including language skills.

Population charts show that the younger cohort features a far higher number of foreign nationals. There are almost 900,000 school-age children in Austria, of whom more than 20 percent do not have Austrian citizenship. Many of those who do have Austrian citizenship are not ethnic Austrians but have a migration background.

Vienna leads significantly with 39 percent, or nearly 80,000 children, who do not have Austrian citizenship, followed by Salzburg in the capital region. Urban areas have far higher numbers of foreigners.

The data shows that in five districts of Vienna, the proportion of third-country children aged between 6 and 15 exceeds 30 percent. Some districts, such as Brigittenau, Favoriten, and Ottakring, have rates above 40 percent, while Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and Margareten have rates exceeding 50 percent.

The FPÖ notes that “according to a study by the Austrian Statistical Office, around 70 percent of school-age children in Vienna do not speak German in everyday life. One-third of children starting school in Vienna lack adequate German language skills to follow the lessons, even though two-thirds of these children were born in Austria. This language gap not only poses a challenge for the children but also creates considerable difficulties for both parents and teachers.”

“Those who do not speak German should not be allowed to attend school,” stated Hermann Brückl, the party’s education spokesman. He noted that language learning was not a problem for previous waves of refugees from Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, or Yugoslavia, nor is it a problem for Ukrainian refugee children.

The issue, he said, has only now become glaringly apparent with immigration from Islamic countries.

The party also highlights that the cultural difference is reflected in the “growing problem of violence in schools. Eight out of 10 reported school crimes in Austria occur in Vienna, with 90 percent of these incidents committed by immigrant children.”

The FPO has drafted a nine-point plan to address the problem, but, as Brückl pointed out, the ruling parties only show interest in such proposals during campaign periods or when they have to “copy and paste” someone else’s work.

Austria is far from the only Western country facing a crashing school system due to mass immigration, with Germany’s school system facing an acute crisis, including rising violence and tens of thousands of students who do not speak any German. Liberal parents in France are also racing to take their children out of schools with heavy immigrant populations, with private schools growing in number. In some of the most liberal cities in the world, segregation is the norm. Muslims open up about how women go missing in Mecca: Kidnapped, groped, and abused, how crimes against women during Hajj go largely unnoticed

On 21st July, an X user Shadab (ImShadab_) shared disturbing information on the platform that the wife of a known person was abducted by a cab driver during Hajj. Despite the efforts of the police, the wife could not be traced and the husband had to return alone. Screenshots of the now-deleted posts were shared on X by HPhobiaWatch.

Replying to Shadab, who has now locked his profile after the post went viral, an X user Sadique said a similar incident happened to a girl who was kidnapped by a cab driver. After keeping her allegedly for several days, he left her at the same hotel where she was staying. Later the girl committed suicide. He alleged that girl was raped.

Another X user Bajify said a similar incident happened to his neighbour last year. The newlywed couple went to Madina for a pilgrimage. When the husband got out of the cab, the driver ran away with the bride.

Another user Mohammed Junaid Khan wrote, “I remember the driver taking us from Makkah to Madinah was throwing phone numbers at all the women. The whole way he was harassing. A similar incident happened. The husband got down to buy water, the driver fled away taking the wife. She was never found.”

Women going missing during Hajj is not an uncommon occurrence. OpIndia found several news reports of women gone missing, kidnapped, raped, groped and so on. On 30th October 2023, a report by 964media alleged that a woman from Kalar in the southern Sulaymaniyah governorate went missing in Saudi Arabia where she was performing Umrah. The 59-year-old woman’s family said she travelled with her brother and several other relatives.

Her brother said, “We entered the Grand Mosque at precisely 9:24 AM last Friday, and before starting to circle the Kaaba, we hired someone to help her circle it in her wheelchair. We specified a location for him to return her to us upon completion, but he did not come back. We do not want to assume that he might have abducted her. In addition to alerting the security forces, we searched for her in hospitals and with the forensic medicine department but did not find any leads. That’s why we have shared our contact information and requested assistance in finding her.”

Sexual abuse, assault and rampant groping incidents

In 2018, CNN published a detailed report on stories of five women who faced sexual abuse at the Hajj. The report suggested that the most of sexual abuse and harassment incidents were reported to have happened during the tawaf ritual where the pilgrims do a counter-clockwise procession around the Kaaba shrine. Some of the women who talked to CNN reported the incident to the police but claimed that the police ignored their plea.

The first story was of a Pakistani woman named Asra Nadeem living in the US who went on pilgrimage at the age of 21 in 2006. After she got stuck in the 2006 stampede, she went again to Mecca to perform Umrah. During that time, she was alone. While performing tawaf, someone grabbed her bum. Later, someone grabbed her breast. When she turned to look who was there, the man smirked at her while he continued to grab her breast.

Another story was of an anonymous British woman who was sexually assaulted in Mecca in 2007. Then-32-year-old woman’s breasts and arms were grabbed while performing tawaf. As the procession continued, she felt someone rubbing his erection on her. When she tried to inform the police, she was shooed away. Moments later, someone pushed his hand between her buttocks. She cried and turned only to see a man smiling at him who said, “Alhamdulillah” (Praise to God).

The third story was of a woman from Indonesia who faced harassment in 2011. At that time, she was only 17. When she was at the hotel, she was catcalled. At Kabba, during tawaf, she felt someone pushing erected genitalia against her. She never went back for pilgrimage after that.

The fourth story was of an anonymous woman from Egypt who faced harassment when she was only 13 years old. When she was returning to the hotel after Umrah, a shopkeeper catcalled her. The second time, during Hajj, someone grabbed her breast. When she looked back, the man who grabbed her breast was standing there with his wife. At that time, she was only 17.

The last story was of Anooshe Mushtaq, a Pakistani woman from Australia. When she was 10 years old, she went for Hajj with her family. A young man groped the little child from behind. On the bus, the conductor groped her upper leg and moved his hand on her chest. As mentioned before, she was only 10 years old at that time.

In September 2022, Desert Sun reported that a 42-year-old woman was kidnapped in Mecca. She was choked and held for eight hours. The man who kidnapped her was arrested and identified as 39-year-old Daniel Gamez Zaragoza.

Not only men, but women have also been reportedly involved in kidnappings. In 2022, a Pakistani woman was arrested for kidnapping a 5-year-old Burmese national girl in Mecca. She was abducted on 29th October and recovered on 1st November.

In 2010, it was reported that an Indian-origin girl identified as Mariam was kidnapped from Mecca. This was the first time she was visiting Mecca. Her father said, “We have been here every year for Umrah. She is in the custody of some evil people who are not allowing her to contact us.” The family has been living in Saudi Arabia for 17 years. She went missing after her mother gave her one-riyal bills to distribute among beggers after the pilgrimage. At that time, Mariam was in class 9.

These reports are just tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of horrifying incidents crimes against women during Hajj.
