The Islamic Council of New South Wales released a statement on 16th April concerning the horrifying stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel in Assyrian Christ The Good Shepherd Church at Sydney’s Wakeley. The organisation condemned the authorities for terming the crime as a “terror attack” while comparing it to the instance at Westfield shopping centre at Bondi Junction which resulted in the death of six individuals.

However, the 16-year-old attacker repeatedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” and even made religious remarks including a reference to the Islamic prophet Muhammad during his assault on the bishop. He had also recently converted to Islam. On the other hand, the Bondi Junction attacker didn’t indulge in any religious sloganeering or uttered comments pertaining to any particular religion.

Notably, the Islamic Council of New South Wales appeared to have conveniently ignored the striking distinction between the two assailants and accused the police of giving a communal colour to the ordeal and alleged that the minor suffered from “behavioural and mental health issues.”

The letter read, “The Islamic Council of NSW (ICNSW) is deeply shocked and saddened by the events that occurred on Saturday in Bondi Junction and last night at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in the suburb of Wakeley. We pass on our condolences and prayers to all of those affected. We are thankful to God that nobody has died as a result of last night’s attack perpetrated by a 16-year-old individual who is known to have behavioural and mental health issues.”

The Islamic outfit conveyed that any faith’s hallowed halls of worship are revered havens of tranquillity and added that the places as well as their congregations must be respected and protected. It then brought up the mass stabbing at Bondi Junction and asserted, “We find it bewildering that the weekend’s devastating incident at Bondi Junction where 6 victims were tragically killed in a targeted attack has been attributed by authorities to be exclusively motivated by the mental health issues of the perpetrator.”

The statement attempted to make a connection between the two incidents and accused, “Yet in stunning contrast, the incident at Christ The Good Shepherd Church, where thankfully nobody was killed, was designated as a terrorist act within hours of the incident, despite the fact the perpetrator is known to have a history of behavioural and mental health issues.”

The group charged that referring to the instance as a “religiously motivated terrorist act” communicates to the Australian community that terrorism is exclusive to Muslims, regardless of an individual’s age, mental state, or self-motivated activities and added, “Mental health issues, like terrorism, are not exclusive to any community. The NSW government’s decision to label this as a terrorist act is irresponsible and we believe will only increase the likelihood of further tensions within the Australian community by fuelling social division and disharmony.”

Islamic Council of New South Wales demanded that the 16-year-old minor’s forensic mental health evaluation be done immediately and that the authorities carefully weigh all potential social repercussions of their choices. It concluded with, “We have had an ongoing mental health crisis in NSW. The government should give urgent consideration and focus on addressing this crisis. We all need to work together to confront this tragic reality that is now impacting all of us.”

“We believe there are elements that are satisfied in terms of religiously motivated extremism. After consideration of all the material, I declared that it was a terrorist incident,” declared New South Wales State Police Commissioner Karen Webb. The male attacker travelled far from his house to the church carrying a knife, indicating, according to the police, “a degree of premeditation.”

According to Australian media accounts, the youngster stabbed the bishop at least eight times in the face, neck and torso and screamed “Allahu Akbar.” Australian counterterrorism officials are aware of his other expressions including on the Islamic prophet Muhammad, in addition to the religious proclamations. The church service was being streamed live when the attack happened and left four people injured during the mass.

A young man named Philippe was brutally abused by three suspected migrants on Monday night. The crime, as a result of which he later died, took place in the far north of France, near the Belgian border. The exact course of events is still unclear, but it is likely to have been a robbery by North African immigrants.

According to his family’s memorial and donation page, Philippe was on his way home in Grande-Synthe on Monday night when several people cowardly attacked him and seriously injured him with an axe and a baseball bat. According to French media, the crime scene was near the Nordoover school, from where the victim dragged himself to the car park of a supermarket, where emergency services arrived at around 1.45am. Images on X suggest that his head and face were savagely mutilated by blows and blows. He then fell into a coma and never recovered. Due to the severity of his injuries, the young man died on Tuesday evening.

Grande-Synthe the migrant hotspot

The authorities are still investigating, but according to media reports, there are three perpetrators – one minor has been arrested and is in custody. It appears to have been a deliberately planned attack. Pictures of the alleged perpetrators were also posted on X. The apparent migrants are said to have attacked the young Frenchman for his mobile phone. There has not yet been any official confirmation, but Grande-Synthe has become a focal point for migrants since the refugee welcome coup in 2015/2016. In 2017, the camp there was considered to be the largest in France for asylum seekers travelling to England.

A gay couple who co-founded a Swiss LGBTQIA+ youth organization are being investigated by the public prosecutor after sexually exploiting two teenagers who were in their care. The men had created locations for their youth group, Sozialwerk.LGBT+, for children aged 13 and up in the city of Chur and in the municipality of Buchs, Switzerland.

While their identities were concealed by the press in Switzerland, Reduxx is naming the men involved as Holger Niggemann and his husband, Björn.

Holger, 42, is alleged to have had sexual contact with two 17-year-olds who had sought help for bullying with the organization. Holger was a board member of the group at the time, while his husband Björn was the business manager. The two men are said to have had a three-way sexual relationship with one of the teens, a 17-year old boy, according to a report by Tages-Anzeiger.

Numerous documents substantiate what happened in the group, including text messages, emails and voice messages, reports Tages-Anzeiger. Founded in 2020, Sozialwerk.LGBT has received public funding to set up facilities for at-risk youth as young as 13 who believe they are LGBT+.

During an investigation into the allegations, local media spoke to fifteen people close to the group to check the veracity of the allegations. The majority of those who came forward decided to remain anonymous.

One exception is Daniel Huber, a former board member of the association, who, with one other board member, reported the couple to public prosecutor Annina Grob, co-director of Avenir Social, the professional association for social work in Switzerland.

“For us, the behavior of the two is a total abuse of power, and the young people also felt that way. I brought it up again and again,” said Huber, who attended the meetings as a teenager before joining the board in a leadership role. “It is important not to look away from such behavior.”

According to statements from anonymous sources, the Niggemanns also took the 17 year-old boy on vacation to Germany with them.

In one public post the teen made on social media, he reveals struggling with the situation: “I’m in a toxic, polyamorous relationship and it’s tearing me apart,” he wrote. “[Holger] wanted us to be a polyamorous couple and I said OK, because I was willing to do anything just to be with him, even though I don’t even like his husband.”

The teen continued: “He’s just taking advantage of me, nothing more. And I’m already traumatized by this shit. When this is over, I need to get my brain fixed.”

The relationship caused controversy within the organization, several board members told Tages-Anzeiger. “It was clear to everyone that this relationship was not possible at all from a professional and moral point of view. But [Holger] in particular could speak extremely well,” said one individual.

Björn also had sexual contact with a second underage teenager in a counseling room at the club, which was confirmed by the outlet via a text message sent from Holger. As conversations surrounding their leadership became more heated, Holger temporarily submitted his resignation as manager six months ago. However, he sent long messages to other group members justifying the couple’s sexual activity.

“In public child and youth work, it was common for a long time for youth workers to have sexual contact with young people,” Holger stated. “Until the 1990s, foster children in Berlin were referred to pedophiles because only these children could love them.”

Holger’s latter remark refers to the infamous Kentler Project, an experiment authorized and subsidized by the Berlin Senate which placed foster children in the homes of pedophiles for the explicit purpose of facilitating child sexual abuse. The Kentler Project began in 1969, and at the time of its termination in 1988, nearly two decades later, sexologist Helmut Kentler described the project as a “complete success” in a report he submitted to the Senate.

Three days after submitting his resignation, Holger decided he wanted to reverse his decision. After an argument within the club’s board, neither he nor Björn were removed from the association. Shortly afterwards, Daniel Huber and another former board member reported the men to the St. Gallen police.

Several anonymous individuals who spoke with the press highlighted a “sexualized basic atmosphere” that existed at the establishment in Chur. Topics of conversation often focused on sexual activity, and a box full of sex toys was kept on-site. The box contained dildos, leather straps and bondage gear, including whips and anal plugs. Holger was said to have “actively offered this box to young people.”

A 2021 Facebook post by Holger Niggemann describes his preference for “puppy play,” a sexual fetish that involves pretending to be a dog during or near the time of intercourse, and the use of BDSM gear.

“A half-naked youth worker with a dog mask… something like that is disturbing and provocative. And that’s exactly why I chose this picture. The choice of image is about politics and not the politics of good taste,” Holger captioned the photo.

“Dogplay, or puppy play is very common in the queer scene. And yet it is often a taboo topic because it comes from the BDSM scene and is always equated with sex. [But] this is more about role models,” he continues.

“Animals have less value in our society. How we treat animal life, in slaughterhouses, factory farming and the like, is indicative of our attitude towards animals. Some of those opposed to marriage for all have taken this very stance, calling queers ‘pedophiles’ or comparing them to animals.”

“And what about nudity? In 2014 I was still working in the Zurich Oberland. This year, as I often do, I was in Ticino. And there in the swimming pool I met young people from my community. Just because I’m a youth worker, I can’t completely restrict my private life. Incidentally, I have already been hit on by community leaders in the public sauna.”

Holger Niggemann has also been the managing director of ‘queer youth’ center treff.LGBT, and has worked with children within the national education system.

In a description on the website “Queer Goes to School” (Queer Macht Schule), which promotes his educational resources, Holger says, “I have been supporting young people with questions about queer topics for over 20 years. I have also been involved in the national specialist groups for child and youth work in Switzerland on the topics of gender and queer for years. This gives us a broad base of experience and knowledge a professional and needs-based discussion of queer topics in the classroom!”

Prior to news of the accusations of the sexual abuse of minors, Holger’s group treff.LGBT had received some criticism on social media for instructing supporters to use the term “front hole” in reference to female anatomy. The post was made to the organization’s Instagram account on March 31 to promote the International Trangender Day of Visibility.

This is not the first time that an LGBT-focused youth group has been accused of facilitating the abuse of vulnerable teenagers.

As previously exclusively reported by Reduxx, two Scottish men came forward to allege they had been groomed and sexually exploited as minors while accessing services at LGBT Youth Scotland.

LGBT Youth Scotland, formerly the Stonewall Youth Project, is known as Scotland’s national charity for “LGBTI young people.” The organization works with youth aged 13 to 25, and delivers programs to schools, organizations and businesses. The charity was founded in 1989 and renamed in 2003, the same year a notorious pedophile, James Rennie, became the Chief Executive Officer.

In 2009, Rennie was found guilty and given “lifelong restriction” orders after it was discovered he was operating what was described as Scotland’s “largest pedophile network.”

After a night of partying in April 2022, a student of psychology (34) from Bavaria wanted to get to her flat in Dresden (Saxony) shortly before 5am. To get home safely, she ordered a taxi. During the journey, the drunk woman (champagne, wine and cocktails) lay on the back seat.

The student with long blonde hair couldn’t make it to the flat on her own, taxi driver Mojib M. (28) – a refugee from Afghanistan – took the woman upstairs.
Babysitter Julia A. (27) was already waiting at home. The Brazilian woman had been looking after the student’s sleeping child and thought the man was a friend of the woman’s who was taking her home.
Mojib M. put the student on the sofa, the babysitter covered her up and said goodbye. According to public prosecutor Thomas Franz (34), the taxi driver then took off the defenceless woman’s dress and raped her.

Two years after the offence, the trial is now underway. Through his lawyer Fanny Schmidt (44), the taxi driver (who was not in custody) explained that there had been sexual intercourse. He reported that the student had kissed him beforehand. The Afghan told the judge: “I understood that she wanted to have sex with me.” The victim, who had many lapses of memory due to the alcoholic intoxication, endured the rape: “I had the urge to scream, but nothing came out. I knew that my five-year-old son was asleep in the next room and I was scared. The only fear I had was that my son might be harmed in some way.” The trial lasted more than nine hours. But in the end, there was nothing to support the Afghan’s version of events. Judge Hermann Hopp-Schwab (61): “You are a taxi driver, you are concerned about the health of your guest. Then I won’t get involved in sexual contact. That means when you’re at work and have got other business.” The taxi driver meekly: “I’ve lost my temper.”
The refugee, who has no criminal record and speaks good German, now drives a taxi in Mönchengladbach (North Rhine-Westphalia) and, by his own admission, had “not attended school”. He was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for rape. The judgement is not yet final.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, a 31-year-old Moroccan man suddenly attacked an 88-year-old Swiss man at the main railway station, the Zurich cantonal police reported on Tuesday evening. The victim suffered head injuries and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital, where the injuries turned out to be serious.

The alleged perpetrator was detained by passers-by until the police arrived. He was arrested and taken to the public prosecutor’s office.

The exact circumstances of the offence are still unclear and are the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office I for Serious Violent Crime and the Zurich Cantonal Police. The public prosecutor’s office has opened criminal proceedings against the arrested man. The compulsory measures court has since ordered that he be remanded in custody.

The social media account “Szene isch Züri” reported the attack on Monday, albeit with the comment that “someone was killed”. Many commentators labelled the report as “fake news”.

However, police spokesman Kenneth Jones explains why the cantonal police delayed reporting the attack on Saturday evening until Tuesday: “The victim’s injuries only turned out to be serious in hospital, which is why the decision was made to publicise the attack in the first place.”

The leaders of sporting bodies should collectively come together and ban transgender athletes from competing in top-level female sports events, the British government’s culture secretary urged this week.

UK Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has argued that biologically male transgender athletes have an “indisputable edge” over their female counterparts and therefore, sports organisations should ban transgender participation.

“This week I called together representatives from key sporting organisations, like the England and Wales Cricket Board and Football Association, to encourage them to follow the lead of other sports in not allowing trans athletes to compete against women at the elite level,” Frazer wrote in the Daily Mail. She criticised sports leaders for failing to implement government guidance mandating them to consider fairness and safety in such judgements.

“Sporting bodies have a duty to women competing in sport to set out clear guidance and take an unambiguous position,” the culture secretary argued.

“In competitive sport, biology matters. And where male strength, size and body shape gives athletes an indisputable edge, this should not be ignored. By protecting the female category, they can keep women’s competitive sport safe and fair and encourage the young girls who dream of one day being elite sportswomen.”

Frazer argued that sports bodies could implement an “open” category for transgender athletes, so that the “female” category could be exclusively for women, thereby ensuring that “everyone can take part and nobody experiences an unfair advantage.”

Last month, a survey from the BBC found that over 100 top British sportswomen were not in favour of completing against transgender athletes, yet they were too afraid to speak out publicly for fear of being labelled as prejudiced, with others expressing fear of losing their job if they challenged transgender ideology.

Demonstrating the taboo around the subject, the BBC reported that its survey was sent out to 615 athletes in 28 sports, yet just 143 responded to the study.

The comments from Frazer came after the publication of the long-awaited Cass report, which found that so-called transgender medicine was built on “shaky ground” and that there was a lack of evidence to justify placing children on life-altering puberty-blocking drugs and hormones.

Frazer said: “Among the many lessons of the Cass Review, it has shown us that inaction and a failure to confront the issues at stake cannot be an option,” adding that the issue of protecting female sports is becoming “more pressing with each passing week. ”

The culture secretary pointed to cycling and running, both of which have barred transgender athletes from taking part in female competitions, as instances of “positive progress” on the issue, but said that there needs to be a culture-wide agreement on the matter.

“We must get back to giving women a level playing field to compete. We need to give women a sporting chance,” she said.

An attempt by left-wing authorities in Brussels to shut down a conservative conference in the city was a “putsch” against “European democracy”, Eric Zemmour said.

Speaking to Brussels Signal, the Reconquete leader expressed delight at being able to attend the National Conservatism conference, which managed to successfully overturn an order for it to be shut down issued by local mayor Emir Kir.

In a court order issued late last night, the Belgian Council of State ruled that the order violated the country’s constitution.

“I’m pleased to see that the mayor’s attempted putsch, the attacks on freedom of this mayor, who still hasn’t understood everything about European-style democracy and the rule of law, has been abolished and severely punished. It’s a slap in the face for him,” Zemmour told Brussels Signal’s Peter Caddle.

The French politician went on to reference Kir’s alleged links to radical groups in Turkey tied to politicians in Ankara.

“He wanted to apply the methods of Erdogan, his mentor. He wanted to use the Belgian police as a private militia to silence his political opponents, and thank God Belgium is still a liberal democracy and a state governed by the rule of law. I’m glad this has been punished and I’m very happy.”

Asked about Reconquete’s position heading into the European elections, Zemmour insisted that he and his party were the “only ones” currently capable of “defending the French people and the European people against the Islamisation of the country and of the continent”.

“We are the only ones leading this fight. All the other parties are pretending to fight it, but we are the only ones actually doing the real fighting,” he said.

“Just like we are the only ones fighting wokery and the woke ideology which has joined forces with the Islamisation of our countries.”

He added that the party would “end up convincing the maximum amount of people of this reality and of the vital necessity of waging this fight.”

On 16th April, Canada said that it plans to explore new measures to expand access to alternative financing products such as halal mortgages. The rapport report on Budget for the financial year said, “Canada is home to a vibrant and growing market of alternative financing products, including halal mortgages, that enable Muslim Canadians, and other diverse communities, to further participate in the housing market.”

It read, “Budget 2024 announces that the government is exploring new measures to expand access to alternative financing products, like halal mortgages. This could include changes in the tax treatment of these products or a new regulatory sandbox for financial service providers while ensuring adequate consumer protections are in place.”

The Canadian government started consulting financial service providers and diverse communities to understand how federal policies could be improved to support the needs of “all Canadians seeking to become homeowners.” An update on Halal Mortgages is expected to be provided in the 2024 Fall Economic Statement.

For those who are unaware, the Shariah law or Islamic faith considers interest to be a form of usury. To make the mortgages “Shariah compliant” or “Halal”, the financial institutions operating in the Islamic world often offer mortgages and lending products that do not have conventional interest payments. Some financial institutions in Canada offer some such mortgages, but the largest five banks in Canada have no such offerings. As Canada is exploring Halal Mortgage options, it may push the large banks in the country to have a separate section of mortgages for Muslims that are “Shariah compliant” or “Halal”.

A report from CTV News in October 2022 mentioned that experts believe Muslim Canadians were “left out” of purchasing homes as they did not have an option of Halal mortgages. Mohammad Sawwaf, CEO of Manzil, an Islamic financial institution from Canada, told CTV, “They’re basically keeping themselves outside of this conventional banking system because it doesn’t align with their religious or ethical principles, and so it becomes very difficult to access financing.”

According to Sawwaf, two options under Halal mortgages are: “murabaha” and “musharaka”. Under murabaha, the financial institute is a mediator and buys the property directly from the seller. The company then sells it immediately to the client with an embedded profit rate. Under musharaka, the seller and the buyer go into an agreement where the seller’s name stays in the title of the home. As the buyer pays off the mortgage, the seller’s equity in the property reduces. While murabaha takes around 10-15 years to complete the payment cycle, in the case of musharaka, it takes around 25-30 years to complete the payment cycle. The amount above and beyond the cost of the property is NOT mentioned as interest charged by the financial institute but as “additional fees”.

Raghuram Rajan tried to bring Islamic banking to India

While Canada is waking up to the Islamic banking system, it is noteworthy that Raghuram Rajan, the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), proposed to have an Islamic banking system in India in 2008 when Congress was in power.

In August 2007, the Planning Commission of India formed a high-level committee on Financial Sector Reforms headed by Raghuram Rajan, who was working as a professor at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago at that time. The committee presented its report in 2008 titled A Hundred Small Steps.

On page 72 of this report, there is a section titled “Improving infrastructure for financial inclusion”, where the idea of interest-free banking is discussed. A para in that section reads, “Another area that falls broadly in the ambit of financial infrastructure for inclusion is the provision of interest-free banking. Certain faiths prohibit the use of financial instruments that pay interest. The nonavailability of interest-free banking products (where the return to the investor is tied to the bearing of risk, in accordance with the principles of that faith) results in some Indians, including those in the economically disadvantaged strata of society, not being able to access banking products and services due to reasons of faith. This non-availability also denies India access to substantial sources of savings from other countries in the region.”

While the report does not mention the words Islamic banking or Shariah compliance banking, the text makes it clear that it is referring to Islamic banking only. It says that certain faiths prohibit the use of financial instruments that pay interest, which directly points towards Islam as earning interest on money is considered haram only in Islam. The report had said that while interest-free banking is provided by some NBFCs in India, it should be made available on a larger scale, including through the banking system.

The text “Improving Infrastructure for Financial Inclusion” is the exact title of the chapter where Islamic banking was proposed in the Raghuram Rajan report, which can be seen in the report. The proposal was rejected by RBI in 2017.

Though RBI disallowed Shariah banking in India, Sharia-compliant Indices for companies are available in the country. In June 2022, OpIndia reported that some X users (then Twitter) criticised Tata Group for offering Sharia-complaint mutual funds. Though most of the investors and people in general are unaware, India has the ‘Shariah Index’ for companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).

What is Shariah Index?

In simple terms, Shariah Index can be defined as an index of companies that are compliant with the Shariah Law. These companies are screened by an authorized board before getting listed in the indices. Basically, these indices include only those companies that deal with Halal products and services, and do not do business in Haram items. For example, alcoholic beverage companies can’t be included Shariah indices because alcohol is Haram in Islam.

Such indices are present around the world, and in India, there are four main indices that index Shariah-compliant companies that are S&P BSE 500 Shariah Index, BSE Tasis Shariah 50 Index, Nifty 500 Shariah Index, and Nifty 50 Shariah Index. The boards that screen the companies for their inclusion in Shariah indices are required to be well-versed in the principles of the Quran governing personal law or Shariah. Spain’s lower house has voted in favor of a bill that, if also passed in the Senate, will see half a million illegal migrants regularized, potentially opening a pathway to Spanish citizenship.

The bill passed in the Congress of Deputies last week with the support of all parties in the left-liberal government as well as the center-right opposition Partido Popular (PP) who, after signaling they would oppose the measure, reversed their position at the last moment, leaving the conservative, sovereigntist VOX party as the sole dissenting voice. 

During a debate that preceded the vote, VOX MP and parliamentary spokesman Rocio De Meer laid out the party’s position on the legislation, saying: 

We want Spain to remain Spain, not Morocco, nor Algeria, nor Nigeria, nor Senegal. And this is not hatred nor is it xenophobia, nor racism, it is pure common sense. 

The 34-year-old lawmaker warned that regularizing half a million illegal migrants would inevitably have a “pull effect” and encourage further mass migration into Spain, potentially resulting in the importation of “jihad, the persecution of Christians, and the discrimination of women.”

The PP, for its part, justified its change of heart by saying it simply wanted to “open up a debate” on the issue of “extraordinary regularization.”

Socialist spokesman Patxi López defended his party’s position, asserting that immigration should be faced in “an intelligent and reasonable way.” He argued that a country like Spain “needs thousands of immigrants” to sustain its current levels of productivity, and added that the bill will likely undergo some amendments. 

If the “extraordinary regularization” is indeed executed, it would mark the seventh in Spanish history. Others, under both socialist- and PP-led governments, took place in 1991, 1996, 2000, 2001, and 2005, and collectively resulted in the regularization of over one million illegal immigrants.

VOX MEP Jorge Buxadé, the head of the party’s delegation in the European Parliament, remarked on the legislation in comments given to the Spanish press in Seville on Monday, April 15th, calling it a “disaster” and an “attack on European law.”  For him, “extraordinary regularizations should be prohibited throughout the European Union.”

The MEP drew attention to the fact that Spain already has had “many experiences with extraordinary regularizations with the Partido Popular and the Socialist Party,” and noted that because of this “right now … there are 7.5 million foreigners of whom only 2.5 million work.”

The impact of the legislation, if passed, is “not known,” Buxadé argued, since the number of illegal migrants who could qualify for regularization could be considerably higher than the 500,000 discussed in parliament. The number may be as high as “600,000 or 700,00,” he said.

Buxáde rebuked the “major parties” for their “collaboration with the separatists,” and plainly stated that “all calls for illegal immigration are an attack on our coexistence and our security.”

The lower house will now examine the text which could undergo modifications or additions presented by parliamentary groups before it is sent to the upper house for final approval. If it makes it to the Senate, where 260 of the 266 seats are occupied by the Socialists, its regionalist allies, and Partido Popular, the likelihood of its passing appears to be high.

 A 28-year-old autistic woman is scheduled to die by assisted suicide in May in the Netherlands after struggling with depression and mental illness, with her psychiatrist telling her that her condition is untreatable and will never improve. 

Zoraya ter Beek, who does not suffer from any physical illness, has decided to end her life by assisted suicide after psychiatrists said they had exhausted any means of helping her deal with her mental illnesses, which includes borderline personality disorder, according to The Free Press. 

Her struggles with mental illness have prevented her from being able to finish school or start a career. 

In testimony to the nihilistic attitude adopted in the choice to end her own life on account of suffering, Ter Beek has decided that after she has been killed, her body will be cremated without a funeral and her ashes scattered in the woods. 

Ter Beek’s choice to take her own life comes despite her admitted fear of death arising from the uncertainty of what happens after death. 

“I’m a little afraid of dying, because it’s the ultimate unknown,” she said. “We don’t really know what’s next – or is there nothing? That’s the scary part.” 

The diagnosis of autism and mental illness as “untreatable” and “unbearable” has become an increasing trend in the Netherlands, with a study published in June 2023 revealing 40 cases during a 10-year period from 2012 to 2021. In a third of those cases, those with autism or intellectual disabilities were told there was no hope of improving their lives, and so their condition was deemed “untreatable.” 

Irene Tuffrey-Wijne, a palliative care physician at Britain’s Kingston University, who led the study that examined 900 cases, said, “There’s no doubt in my mind these people were suffering. But is society really OK with sending this message, that there’s no other way to help them and it’s just better to be dead?” 

Tim Stainton, director of the Canadian Institute for Inclusion and Citizenship at the University of British Columbia, added, “Helping people with autism and intellectual disabilities to die is essentially eugenics.” 

The scheduled killing of the 28-year-old autistic woman comes as the Netherlands continues to expand the scope of what legally qualifies for euthanasia, with a new law effective February 1 allowing the killing of terminally ill children ages 1-12 who are deemed to be “suffering hopelessly and unbearably.” 

The law allows parents to decide to kill their child even if the child is unwilling or unable to consent.
