It was supposed to be a nice day at the outdoor pool, but then everything turned out badly: A girl from Germany (13), who was with friends, was surrounded by a group of migrants in the outdoor pool of the Agrippa Bad in Cologne. This group consisted of an Iraqi, four Syrians and three Turks aged between 16 and 26. During the incident, the girl went into hiding and tried to flee. In the process, the police reported that the Iraqi allegedly grabbed her bikini panties.

Nevertheless, the girl managed to escape. She ran to the lifeguard, who immediately informed the police. The officers were able to apprehend the suspects as they hurried to leave the pool. A witness incriminated the gang.

“We are glad that our lifeguard reacted so calmly immediately and called the police. Our employees are trained for such situations,” a spokesperson for the open-air swimming pool stressed to the newspaper “Bild”.

The suspects are now being questioned by the police. They are also looking for further witnesses to the alleged abuse. Please inform the police by calling 0221/2290.

Italian migration crisis: Lampedusa locals stage mass protests as von der Leyen visits embattled island

Italians protest against illegal migration on the island of Lampedusa. Screen grab X

Italians staged mass protests on the island of Lampedusa just hours before the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen along with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Sunday. Italian residents on the island, who are now outnumbered by illegal immigrants, were demanding measures to stop the flood of migrants, which has become unsustainable.

More boats carrying migrants continue to arrive on the island, with more than 100 arriving so far on Sunday. The influx of migrants has exceeded 10,000 in the past week, while the small island of Lampedusa has a total population of around 6,000. Last Tuesday alone, over 6,000 illegal migrants arrived on the island in just 24 hours.

Hundreds of people took to the streets on Saturday to demand an immediate solution to the situation. Footage posted on social media shows the frustration of locals.

Some protesters said they were protesting for the first time due to the severity of the crisis.

“In recent years, I have not bothered to take action on this issue. But now I feel instinctively that I have to protect my children because I don’t know what will happen to Lampedusa in the future,” said one demonstrator.

“We don’t want tent camps. This is our message to Europe and the Italian government. The citizens of Lampedusa are tired,” said another demonstrator after news spread that a tent city for migrants was being set up on a former military base.

Meanwhile, crowds of African migrants arriving on Lampedusa have also started protests, including roadblocks demanding supplies and what they claim is a better standard of living. The reception centers on Lampedusa designed for a few hundred people are currently housing thousands of illegal migrants.

Von der Leyen’s visit to the embattled island is a sign of how dire the crisis has grown, yet the EU has made proposals and promises for years with few results. In fact, the crisis has only grown, with Italy quickly approaching the record number of illegal immigrants who arrived in 2016 during the height of the crisis.

Von der Leyen pledged the cooperation of the European and Italian authorities in the migration emergency and announced an immediate 10-point action plan. This includes strengthening the presence and support of the European Asylum Agency and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) in Italy.

Border surveillance at sea and in the air should also be stepped up, according to von der Leyen. However, unless there is a fundamental change in the EU’s migration policy, more surveillance will not necessarily slow down arrival numbers. In fact, EU maritime services are often involved with transporting migrants spotted at sea to shore.

Von der Leyen also promised to speed up the delivery of equipment and training for the Tunisian Coast Guard and other authorities. There will be stronger action against people smugglers and restrictions on the use of boats unfit for sea transport, she claimed.

However, von der Leyen also made statements that indicate the goal of the EU is not to stem the migrant crisis, but simply spread newcomers to other European nations. She said that people who reach Lampedusa, especially women and minors, should be transferred to other EU member states.

However, many Western European nations, such as Germany, have said that they will no longer accept migrants from southern states, singling out Italy in particular. Germany claims that Italy is refusing to accept asylum seekers who first registered their claims in Italy, which under the Dublin rules, requires Italy to accept them back, according to the German government.

German Left calls for the abolition of homework

Wikimedia Commons, SK49, CC-BY-3.0

Germany’s hard Left Die Linke party has called for the complete abolition of homework in schools, much to the delight of nine-year-olds across the country.

The party has outlined the change in a written proposal detailing sweeping reforms to the country’s primary and secondary schooling system. The group said the plan as likely to cost the state €100 billion.

According to a report by the German Press Agency (DPA), the document heavily criticises Germany’s current education system as cementing social inequality, arguing that students should not be expected to do homework.

The practice of grading children on their performance is also described as being oppressive and the DPA added that abolishing such systems would allow children to participate in “learning without pressure and fear”.

“Homework and grades should be abolished,” it reportedly reads, adding that all school practising and revision “has to happen during school time”.

Die Linke is also calling for the abolition of Germany’s current system of secondary schools, which involves children being streamed into academically-aimed Gymnasiums, more vocationally-focused Realschule or the lower tier Hauptschule, depending on technical capability.

The party believes that the different types of schools should be abolished due to the system being an “accelerator for social inequality”.

Instead, a universal type of secondary school they argue should be established for children in grades 1 to 10.

One other reform advocated for by Die Linke is the abolition of control over local education by the federal states, with the party instead advocating for education to be completely controlled at the Federal level.

Of all the listed reforms, this change appears to be the most contentious. The DPA said it would require a two-thirds majority vote in the German parliament and the Bundesrat, an assembly made up of state-government delegates.

The report has not been met with glowing universal praise, with the President of the German Teachers’ Association Stefan Düll rejecting Die Linke’s calls for the abolition of grades and homework.

“The children, just like their parents, want to have the opportunity to compare themselves, on the one hand with their classmates and on the other hand, of course, with the requirements in relation to the educational qualifications they are aiming for,” he said.

Germany: Leipzig school obliges children to attend climate rally

Gerda Taro School, Wikimedia Commons, Andreas Wolf 01,  CC-BY-SA-4.0

Last Friday, participation in the “Global Climate Strike” of the radical organisation “Fridays for Future” was compulsory for tenth graders at a Leipzig grammar school. Previously, students had skipped school for this, but this time everyone had to go – even those who didn’t want to.

This is because participation was declared compulsory as part of a “sustainability project day”. Morning and afternoon classes were cancelled for this purpose. But the action violates the legally prescribed neutrality requirement of schools. Political demonstrations are taboo. Beforehand, there had been a vote in the class on several local demonstrations, reports the headmaster. A majority decided in favour of the demonstration.

Translation: When I was young, I was also left-wing. To go to a demo, I had to skip school. Today you have to skip school NOT to go to a left-wing FFF demo.

Leaving the climate demo early was expressly forbidden, he said. Otherwise, the teachers would have violated their duty of supervision. Four days earlier, at the parents’ meeting of the Gerda Taro School in Leipzig, some mothers and fathers were said to have protested vehemently. “It’s just like in the GDR,” complained one father. At that time, the pupils were also sent to demonstrations.

The teacher in charge had also distributed a “parents’ letter” on the evening of the climate demonstration. According to the letter, visiting information stands, listening to rallies of the Climate Alliance and “participating in the demonstration” were explicitly obligatory.

Headmaster Uwe Schmidt justified the action to “t-online”: “We are talking about tenth graders here, they don’t let themselves be taken by surprise. With fifth graders, one would have had to evaluate it differently.

You Can’t Make This Up: Doctors Are Now Struggling to Differentiate Between Covid, Allergies, and Common Cold – ‘We Only Knew It Was Covid Because We Tested’

Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on Unsplash

Gone are the days when the loss of taste or smell and a dry cough were the telltale signs of Covid-19.

According to Dr. Erick Eiting, vice chair of operations for emergency medicine at Mount Sinai Downtown in New York City, the symptoms have shifted.

“It isn’t the same typical symptoms that we were seeing before. It’s a lot of congestion, sometimes sneezing, usually a mild sore throat,” he shared with NBC News.

Eiting admitted that the only reason they identified it as COVID was due to the testing; otherwise, it would have been mistaken for a mere cough or cold.

European Nationalist Parties Forge Cooperation Ahead of EU Elections

NATIONALIST COLLABORATION TAKES SHAPE. Six parties met in Budapest on August 26th to sign a joint declaration confirming the friendship and political unity among the parties. The goal is to either form a new group in the European Parliament after the EU elections in June next year or to reconstitute the existing Identity and Democracy (ID) group with the new parties. Pictured from left to right: Mikael Jansson (Alternative for Sweden), Thierry Baudet (Forum for Democracy, Netherlands), László Toroczkai (Mi Hazánk, Hungary), Kostadin Kostadinov (Vazrazhdane, Bulgaria), and Josef Nerušil (Svoboda a přímá demokracie, Czech Republic). On Saturday, August 26, representatives of six European nationalist parties gathered in Budapest. The meeting was initiated by the Hungarian party Mi Hazánk and took place in the national parliament. Representatives of the parties signed a joint declaration that not only reaffirms the parties’ friendship but also their unity on a range of complex political issues. A surprisingly clear and radical manifesto was established. The hope is that this cooperation will lead to success in the EU elections and eventually result in the formation of a group in the European Parliament. For Swedish nationalism, this meeting marks a success as Sweden, for the first time, has a party represented in a leading nationalist cooperation in Europe. Free West Media was present at this historic event.

The European Parliament election is less than a year away, in June 2024, and the parties that met in Budapest expressed an ambition for the meeting to serve as the starting point for cooperation that could lead to the formation of a new group in the European Parliament.

The parties present at the meeting were Our Homeland from Hungary, Alternative for Sweden, Revival from Bulgaria, Freedom and Direct Democracy from the Czech Republic, Forum for Democracy from the Netherlands, and a party whose presence shows that the cooperation is ultimately about Europe and not just the EU elections. This party is Mass-Voll (The Cup is Full) from non-EU country Switzerland, founded in 2021 in protest against the country’s COVID policies.

These parties not only share nationalism and anti-globalism but are also relatively newly formed, originating from larger parties that they believe have been corrupted or have abandoned their nationalist profile. Mikael Jansson, deputy leader of Alternativ för Sverige, stated that many of them come from parties that have grown larger and perhaps become somewhat corrupt, similar to Sweden Democrats (SD) as an example.

When Sweden Democrats first took their seats in the European Parliament in 2014, they unexpectedly chose to reject the nationalist group and instead joined the center-right EFDD group, which was later dissolved with Britain’s EU exit. Now they are members of the ECR with a similar political profile. The group includes, among others, the Finns Party, the Polish ruling party Law and Justice, and the Spanish party Vox.

“Now comes a second wave with more ideologically pure parties. The first wave got stuck as they became established; they became mainstream parties with a certain nationalist orientation. Just like the left had many parties before, now it’s the right that is getting more parties,” said Jansson to Free West Media.

Already on Friday, the event unofficially began when Thierry Baudet, leader of the Dutch Forum voor Democratie, launched his bestseller “The Covid Conspiracy,” which was translated into Hungarian. The foreword was written by Donald Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon. The hall was packed, and there was great interest among the audience as Baudet talked about how government policies during COVID were based on something entirely different from public health.

“They have caused small and medium-sized businesses to go under, divided families, let the elderly die alone, and scared millions of citizens – including children – into obedience. It is a globalist elite that sees COVID as an opportunity for The Great Reset – a digitally controlled society without democracy – where citizens are deprived of their freedoms,” said the charismatic 40-year-old, whose party has become a competitor to Geert Wilders’ PVV, which primarily focuses on the issue of Islam.

This focus on issues related to freedom, democracy, and anti-globalism is a cornerstone of the cooperation, and even though the COVID issue has now lost some of its relevance, the parties argue that the problem is systemic and spans all societal issues. Instead, they demand a radical departure from current policies, not just in the immigration issue. This is evident in the declaration that the six parties jointly signed. Rather than expressing vague goals for a multifaceted Europe, as previous collaborations tend to do, these parties are not afraid to take a clear stance on controversial issues.

The declaration expresses support for a Europe of free nations and each country’s right to pursue an independent foreign policy. Resistance to “industrially and criminally organized mass immigration” – both legal and illegal – is another point. The parties voice their support for the family and traditional values while rejecting “wokeism” and the “LGBTQI+ agenda.”

Global organizations such as the EU, WHO, and the UN are accused of wanting to establish a world government, using the “global sustainability goals” as a cover. Defense of private property, opposition to high taxes, and the confiscation of agricultural land are also addressed. Organizations funded by global corporations are accused of using COVID as a pretext to limit people’s freedoms while multinational companies are enriched by governments with vast sums of money. The current economic system is called a “financially based virtual economy” and criticized for creating inflation, which the parties write is ”the rich robbing the poor.”

“In our speeches and discussions, it felt like all parties are relatively ideologically aligned. It feels good that we have almost the same opinions on most things,” said Jansson to Free West Media.

He believes that the other parties view Alternativ för Sverige as the natural Swedish partner for cooperation, even though the party is still small and is without representation in the national parliament.

The conference was opened by Dóra Dúró, vice leader of Mi Hazánk, who received standing ovations when she argued that European countries must cease submission to the United States and instead pursue independent policies that serve their own interests. Dúró claimed that the war in Ukraine was the worst thing that could happen to Europe and that it could have been prevented with different policies. She emphasized the need to restore the relationship between Europe and Russia, as neither party benefits from isolation, and she received applause.

She then handed over to party leader László Toroczkai.

“With this conference in Budapest, we wanted not only to repay the wonderful invitations to Sofia, Amsterdam and Stockholm, but also to declare that the parties present here today must lead the creation of a new European alliance,” he said.

THIERRY BAUDET from the Dutch Forum for Democracy released his book “The Covid Conspiracy” last year, which has now been translated into Hungarian under the title “A Covid Roulette”. “The fact is that not only do our parties have similar programmes, but our parties have almost identical histories. We have all been confronted with politicians who, out of cowardice and opportunism, have not had the courage to speak the truth and have betrayed their people, and have in fact served our global oppressors. The saddest thing is that these politicians were in our own political communities.”

“We are bound together by the fact that it is we who did not become traitors. We are the ones who refused to lie to our people. We are the ones who refused to be politically correct. And we are the ones who were mocked and made fun of because they believed they had defeated us. But we proved them wrong. Not only have we survived, we are also growing stronger. And this strength can be given a huge boost if we continue the fight not alone but together.”

“Now is the time to be very vigilant. We want real and radical change. We do not want to make slight changes to the current system, but still keep serving it. So it is time for us to act. We must be very selective with our European allies, because in these historic times we have a huge historic responsibility.
Here is an opportunity to finally stop the destruction of a Europe of nations, but if we choose the wrong allies, our nations could fall. We can only choose allies who grasp the essence, the roots of this global dark force. Allies who are brave and honest, who are true comrades, who are not afraid and who cannot be bribed either.
We have now invited such parties and such politicians from different parts of Europe. The ones who are showing the way. We are capable of saving Europe from destruction. Posterity will be grateful to us if we create this historic alliance now! Let’s go and do it!”

Toroczkai argued that the current unipolar world order will be replaced by a multipolar world order ”that is better than the current one.”

“Now is the time to be vigilant. We want real and radical change. We don’t just want minor changes in the current system and continue to serve it. It’s time for us to act. We must be very selective with our European allies – because in these historic times, we have a great historical responsibility. There is an opportunity here to finally stop the destruction of Europe’s nations – but if we choose the wrong alliance, our nations can fall. We can only choose allies who understand the meaning of these dark forces, allies who are brave and honest, who are true comrades, who are not afraid and cannot be corrupted. We have now invited such parties and politicians from different parts of Europe. They are the ones showing the way. We can save Europe from destruction. Future generations will thank us if we form this alliance. So, let’s do it!” Toroczkai concluded to a standing ovation.

Mikael Jansson told Free West Media:

“All parties were very friendly towards us. We are the smallest party there, and the others want to help us. ‘We must help you so that you can get into parliament,’ they expressed. It was just sympathetic, there was nothing condescending towards us. In practical terms, it may involve holding common meetings in our respective countries. Laszlo Toroczkai, leader of Mi Hazánk, emphasized several times that he wants to come to Sweden and campaign in the spring.”

Toroczkai, who has led his Hungarian party to around 15 percent in the polls, visited the Swedes during last year’s election campaign. Although the electoral success did not materialize, the trip resulted in Toroczkai getting to know the party’s representatives and policies more deeply, leading to an intensification of cooperation, and Alternativ för Sverige was invited to Budapest to participate in the group formation.

However, it is still not determined exactly under what designation the parties will cooperate in the European Parliament. The group has no common name yet.

János Argyelan, the international coordinator for Mi Hazánk, told Free West Media that there are two realistic alternatives: either a completely new group is formed in the European Parliament with a new name, or the nationalist group Identity and Democracy (ID) is reconstituted. Much depends on what the nationalist giant in this context, Alternative for Germany, chooses to do. If they prefer to gather parties in Identity and Democracy, where they currently sit, that is likely to be the outcome.

The Germans were not present in Budapest, nor were the other EU heavyweights: France and Italy. Free West Media’s sources suggest that it is most likely that Alternative for Germany will join the newly formed European cooperation ahead of the EU elections. This is because Maximilian Krah, who belongs to the party’s national wing, was elected as the top candidate for the European Parliament elections. In general, nationalists in the German party have strengthened their positions over several years and have strengthened their cooperation with several of the parties that met in Budapest during the same period.

Le Pen and Salvini rally in Italy against ‘flood of migrants,’ call for united right for EU elections next year

Right-wing politicians gathered in Italy at a political rally hosted by League leader Matteo Salvini in the run-up to next year’s European Parliament elections, with the parties focusing on fighting mass immigration and the left-liberal bloc’s domination of European politics.

During the rally, France’s Marine Le Pen, parliamentary leader of the National Rally, said that Europe’s right-wing parties must gather forces together to protect the people of Europe against mass immigration.

“We are defending our traditions, our gastronomy, our identities, our landscapes (…) we are defending our peoples against the flood of migrants,” said Marine Le Pen, with Le Pen directly referencing the recent surge in immigration at the Italian island of Lampedusa, which is seeing thousands of migrants arriving each day, including a record of nearly 7,000 in 24 hours last week.

Le Pen was at the rally in Pontida on Sunday at the invitation of Matteo Salvini, leader of the right-wing Italian League, where she declared that her party and those gathered were in a common fight to defend freedom and the homeland at the rally, according to Hungarian news outlet Mandiner.

“To those who pretend to defend the status quo or to justify their lives that there is no other alternative, you (pointing to the crowd) have demonstrated that political will can do it. You have demonstrated the political will that Europe needs. By the force of your convictions and your actions, you have demonstrated that there are still Europeans willing to protect our continent, our cultures, and our civilization,” said Le Pen.

Le Pen was one of the foreign guests invited to the political meeting at the source of the Po River, which was attended by a number of European right-wing forces, including a delegation from the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

The president of the National Rally called next year’s European elections a “resistance of the European peoples to outside influence.”

Matteo Salvini said that if he had to choose between French President Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, there is no doubt that he would choose the latter:

“We have a common task to win in Italy and in the European Union.”

He said it would be a sin to exclude anyone from the alliance of center-right and right-wing parties. He announced that before the end of the year, he would call a mass demonstration of the forces preparing to replace the European left next year.

Elections for the European Parliament will be held next spring, and France will hold elections this coming Sunday for half of the 348 seats in the Senate.

Promoting Globalism Through Illegal Immigration: Why the Vatican and America’s bishops support open borders

Months before officials in New York City allowed migrants to displace students in public schools, or officials in Chicago turned O’Hare International Airport into a refugee center, the former general counsel for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services made a frightening prediction about illegal immigration.

“This is going to be a catastrophe for our health-care system, our criminal justice system, our educational system,” Elizabeth Yore said in December. “We’re not going to recognize our society in two years. The crime and the chaos in the schools is going to be unimaginable. We are going to be paying for this for decades, generations.”

The fact that Yore, a conservative Catholic, made that criticism holds more than casual significance — especially since the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops effectively supports open borders.

As FrontPage Magazine twice reported, the USCCB uses taxpayer dollars to fund its human trafficking campaign, thereby enriching that body. But the payment it exacts for exploiting poor Latin American migrants exceeds the monetary.

The bishops use immigration as a weapon to implement Pope Francis’ globalist vision, which demands the eradication of national identity and legitimate national self-interest. That explains the bishops’ vehement opposition to President Donald Trump and their failure to forge a united front against Joe Biden, one of Francis’ favorites.

It also explains the bishops’ breathtaking silence on such crimes as child trafficking, sex trafficking and drug trafficking, and the prelates’ refusal to defend innocent Americans of all ethnicities against crimes perpetrated by illegal immigrants — including murder, as the “Angel Families” can attest.

Finally, it explains the bishops’ opposition to controlling illegal immigration through such means as “a tripling of Border Patrol agents, especially at ports of entry, and the use of sophisticated technology such as ground sensors, surveillance cameras, heat-detecting scopes, and reinforced fencing,” as a joint pastoral letter from American and Mexican bishops stated in 2003.

“That such measures might, in fact, deter or detect individuals trafficking children, the bishops ignored,” Marjorie Murphy Campbell, a Catholic lawyer, wrote for The Christian Review, a website founded by the former publisher of a conservative Catholic magazine, Crisis.

But Francis is no outlier. His globalist agenda reflects six decades of papal policy, as FrontPage Magazine often reported. Starting with the Second Vatican Council, which lasted from 1962-65, Catholic leaders began advocating radically egalitarian and utopian solutions to besetting world problems. Implementing those solutions demanded globalist reorganization, preferably under one supranational body that would hold nations accountable.

Encyclicals from Popes John XXIIIPaul VI and Benedict XVI refined that policy. In 1963, John, who convened the council, used his encyclical Pacem in Terris to advocate creating an international “public authority with power, organization and means” that operates in “a world-wide sphere of activity” to devise and impose policy, he wrote. “Consequently, the moral order itself demands the establishment of some such general form of public authority.”

In 1967, Pope Paul VI reinforced that appeal in his encyclical, Populorum Progressio.

“Such international collaboration among the nations of the world certainly calls for institutions that will promote, coordinate and direct it, until a new juridical order is firmly established and fully ratified,” Paul wrote before quoting his own address to the United Nations. “’Who can fail to see the need and importance of thus gradually coming to the establishment of a world authority capable of taking effective action on the juridical and political planes?’”

In 2009, Benedict offered the most detailed approach, as FrontPage reported upon his death. In Caritas in Veritate, he advocated replacing the UN with “a true world political authority” to secure “the common good” by regulating national economies, diplomacy and international law. It would have power “to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties,” he wrote, “so that the concept of the family of nations can acquire real teeth.”

Such an agency, Benedict continued, would “manage the global economy to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration.” Protecting the environment would involve “a worldwide redistribution of energy resources.” (Emphasis added)

Francis built on that foundation with two encyclicals of his own: Laudato Si on environmental sustainability and Fratelli Tutti on economic redistribution. In 2019, Francis expressed the papal commitment to globalism when the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences met:

The nation-state cannot be considered as an absolute. In the current situation of globalization, the nation-state is no longer able to procure on its own the common good of its populations. The common good has become global and nations must affiliate themselves for their own benefit. When a supranatural common good is clearly identified, it necessitates a specific, legally and concordantly constituted authority capable of facilitating its fulfillment.” (Emphasis added)

In March 2021, during an interview to promote his book, God and the World to Come, Francis said that a “new world order” must emerge from the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic:

“Let us all keep in mind that there is something worse than this crisis: the drama of wasting it. Instead, we can heal injustice by building a new world order based on solidarity, studying innovative methods to eradicate bullying, poverty and corruption, all working together, each for their own part, without delegating and passing the buck.” (Emphasis added)

That November, Francis reiterated that call to the Paris Peace Forum:

“Faced with the consequences of the great storm that has shaken the world, our conscience therefore calls us … not to follow the easy path of returning to a ‘normality’ marked by injustice, but to accept the challenge of assuming the crisis as ‘a concrete opportunity for conversion, transformation, to rethink our lifestyle and our economic and social systems.’ “

Unfettered immigration serves the globalist agenda by eroding national law, identity and culture. Europe provides the prime example. Francis encourages millions of Middle Eastern Muslims to migrate there, regardless of problems concerning assimilation, yet never encourages them to become Christians.

As Francis’ apostolic representatives in the United States, the bishops engage in two tactics to promote his interests.

Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez represents the velvet glove. Gomez, born in Mexico, addressed the Catholic Napa Institute in 2011, the year he became archbishop, on immigration’s role in American culture.

After acknowledging and praising the pivotal role Calvinist immigrants to New England and the Founding Fathers played in forging the nation’s identity, Gomez directed attention to Spanish colonization in Florida and California.

“It is the story not of colonial settlement and political and economic opportunity,” Gomez said. “It is the story of exploration and evangelization. This story is not Anglo-Protestant but Hispanic-Catholic. It is centered, not in New England but in Nueva España — New Spain — at opposite corners of the continent.”

By forgetting “our country’s roots in the Hispanic-Catholic mission to the new world,” Gomez continued, “we end up with an idea that Americans are descended from only white Europeans and that our culture is based only on the individualism, work ethic and rule of law that we inherited from our Anglo-Protestant forebears.”

Gomez then disregards the rule of law by ignoring the illegal status of many immigrants and focusing on their potential.

“These immigrants — no matter how they came here — are people of energy and aspiration,” he said. “This is why I believe our immigrant brothers and sisters are the key to American renewal. And we all know that America is in need of renewal — economic and political, but also spiritual, moral and cultural renewal. I believe these men and women who are coming to this country will bring a new, youthful entrepreneurial spirit of hard work to our economy. I also believe they will help renew the soul of America.” (Emphasis added)

Catholics, of course, have their own pivotal role to play.

“Catholics need to lead our country to a new spirit of empathy,” Gomez said. “We need to help our brothers and sisters to start seeing the strangers among us for who they truly are — and not according to political or ideological categories or definitions rooted in our own fears.”

The second tactic is the iron fist, which San Diego Cardinal Robert McElroy represents. In 2017, while still a bishop, McElroy encouraged his audience to act as “disruptors” by encouraging disobedience to immigration law.

“We must disrupt those who would seek to send troops into our streets to deport the undocumented, to rip mothers and fathers from their families,” he said. “We must disrupt those who portray refugees as enemies, rather than our brothers and sisters in terrible need.”

McElroy’s inflammatory rhetoric not only imitates the “resistance” narrative Trump’s enemies embraced. It silently equates American immigration authorities to Gestapo agents seeking Jews.

In August 2022, McElroy received his reward when Francis made him a cardinal.

But rhetoric means nothing without action. As FrontPage reported, an investigation from the Heritage Foundation discovered that Catholic Charities linked almost 3,400 separate mobile phones to anonymous contacts in 433 of the nation’s 435 Congressional districts. The investigation also traced 22,000 cell phones from all NGOs to 431 districts.

“Of the 52 congressional districts with the highest density of devices,” the foundation reported, “71 percent were Republican congressional districts.”

By supporting and profiting from illegal immigration, the bishops not only have declared war against their countrymen. By trying to implement Francis’ agenda, the bishops essentially act as agents of a hostile foreign government.

Maureen Mullarkey, a conservative Catholic commentator, powerfully summarized the significance of their position.

“By admonishing voters to ‘humanize globalization,’ the bishops position themselves in the vanguard of a globalist world freed from competing national aims and interests,” she wrote. “To a clerical elite impatient for the withering away of the national state, an open border is the staging ground for assault on citizenship and national sovereignty.”

Not for nothing does Mullarkey call the USCCB “a fifth column in cope and chasuble.”

A Catholic diocese throws down the gauntlet on all things LGBTQ+

By Andrea Widburg

Two of the worst Supreme Court opinions are Obergefell, finding an imaginary constitutional right to gay marriage, and Bostock, reading transgenderism into Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However, the Diocese of Cleveland, by announcing that it is abandoning all LGBTQ+ ideology and practices, may give rise to a Supreme Court case that wipes out those legal abominations.

In 2015, in Obergefell, Justice Anthony Kennedy concluded that, hidden deep within the Constitution, probably in the same place in which the Supreme Court once found a right to abortion, there is a fundamental right to same-sex marriage. The decision reads more like a romance novel than it does a legal document, despite periodic references to the Constitution.

Kennedy’s writing was slop, but it was slop that set up a very disturbing constitutional crisis: namely, the moment when a same-sex couple sues a conservative religious institution for refusing to marry it. When I mentioned this problem to a leftist lawyer, he scoffed. Much as the Catholic church opposed abortion, he pointed out, that had never caused a constitutional crisis. I responded that the Catholic church didn’t perform abortions.

Then, in 2019, Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the decision in Bostock. In it, he held that the 1964 Civil Rights Act, when it used the word “sex,” meant “gender identity.” This violated the first rule of statutory interpretation, which is that you must consider what the legislature had in mind when it enacted a law—and I think we can all agree that, back in 1964, no one in the legislature was thinking about so-called “transgenderism.” They were, instead, thinking about sex in terms of the gender binary—male and female—that is both a constant in human biology and the Judeo-Christian belief system that built America. Again, a head-on collision with a religious institution seems inevitable.

Gorsuch’s decision is especially bad because it’s weaving so-called transgenderism into the warp and woof of American life. It’s why every corporation in America now has a transgender policy. That’s not just because corporations are woke (they are); it’s because if they don’t have such a policy, they’ve violated the Civil Rights Act and run the risk of getting a lawsuit and a knock on the door from the EEOC.

But the Diocese of Cleveland just did something that is great on its face, and that may finally force the Supreme Court to revisit these constitutionally corrupt decisions: It said that its Christian values must control when it comes to the question of human sex and sexuality. According to the Diocese, there are only two sexes, and heterosexuality is the only appropriate relationship.

The Bishop’s new “Parish & School Policy on Issues of Sexuality and Gender Identity” is remarkably clear. Its opening paragraph establishes that the rules it states are grounded in divine revelation. It acknowledges that people suffer from gender dysphoria or confusion and expresses sympathy for their sufferings but says that their belief “is contrary to the divinely revealed reality of our true, God-given human nature.” Compassion is called for but not more.

While the Diocese will not bar the door against those who claim same-sex attraction or gender confusion,

those persons who choose to openly express disagreement with Church teaching on matters of sex, sexuality, and /or gender in an inappropriate or scandalous way, or who act in ways contrary to the teachings of the Church, may be subject to restrictions on his or her participation in the life of the institution or, in appropriate cases, to disciplinary action, both for that person’s own good and/or the good of others.

The policy applies to everyone affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland—employees, volunteers, students, etc.

With this principle in place, the Diocese articulated firm rules:

  • If a minor expresses gender dysphoria, any institution within the Diocese must notify the parents. The exception is the reasonable belief that this will subject the child to physical abuse, in which case the dysphoria must be reported to the Diocese Legal Office and designated moral theologians.
  • All pronouns and names “must reflect a person’s God-given biological sex…” There are no preferred pronouns in the Cleveland Diocese.
  • Bathrooms and other single-sex facilities are open only to members of that biological sex.
  • Single-sex programs, institutions, and activities are open only to members of that biological sex.
  • Only male-female couples may attend dances within the Diocese in a romantic capacity, although friends, groups, and individuals may attend.
  • Clothes are to reflect a person’s biological sex.
  • People may not engage in public LGBTQ+ conduct, including displaying LGBTQ+ paraphernalia and insignia.
  • No one within the diocese may go through any form of “gender transition.”
  • All records are to reflect a person’s biological sex.

It’s amazing that it took this long for a religious institution to stand up for religious principles. I hope the Diocese is braced for the inevitable lawsuits from activist employees or parents—and when those lawsuits come, I hope the Diocese has the resolve to take them to the Supreme Court if need be. Maybe, then, the Supreme Court will reverse the constitutional monstrosities that are Obergefell and Bostock.
