French migrant center at 500% capacity as ‘exhausted’ volunteers threaten to close its doors in protest

Staff at a migrant reception center in the French Alpine city of Briançon plan to shut the facility in protest at government inaction after the center was overwhelmed with an influx of new arrivals.

The Terrasses Solidaires center, which is the first facility migrants come across when taking the migratory route through the Alps from Italy, catered to 326 people on Monday night, more than 500 percent above its 60-person capacity, and aid workers have revealed they can no longer accommodate the growing influx of migrants.

“These migrant routes have always existed, but their use has intensified since 2016 and even more so since this spring,” Luc Marchello, a refugee aid worker, told Radio France Internationale (RFI).

To cope with the increasing demand, many migrants are sleeping on mattresses in corridors and meeting rooms, while others are forced to sleep outside in tents.

“The situation is getting too complicated. The volunteers are exhausted,” Marjolaine Bert, administrator at Terrasses Solidaires, told BFM TV.

According to workers at the facility, the majority of new arrivals originate from Sub-Saharan Africa and have traveled across the Mediterranean to Italy before heading for northwestern Europe.

Just last week, a fight broke out at the facility, which resulted in two French firefighters suffering several bruises after being punched and kicked. Florent Crouhy, the local public prosecutor, confirmed a 22-year-old Moroccan national was arrested and placed in police custody for the assault. He was consequently sentenced to six months in prison on Monday.

Staff at the reception center have reportedly called for greater assistance from local authorities and the government, but these requests have fallen upon deaf ears, leaving volunteers with no choice but to shut the facility in protest.

It is understood that those currently being housed in the facility will be found alternative accommodation before the shelter is closed.

Jon Voight Uncorks on Biden: ‘This is Now a War Against All of Us’

After 91% in German town reject migrant container village, mayor says they’ll be getting migrant tents instead

Germans keep voting against migrants in various referendums in the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but elected leaders in the state have consistently responded by vowing to bring migrants into their towns and cities anyway. In the latest case, an overwhelming 91.4 percent of Germans living in Grevesmühle voted in a referendum against a container village, but the mayor says that he will push to move in migrant tents despite the vote.

The vote, which was held on Sunday, now requires the town of 10,000 to ensure that no container villages are built on urban land, and renting or selling city-owned areas for this purpose is also prohibited. The city administration announced this result after all the votes were counted on Sunday evening and posted to the city’s website.

The referendum occurred after the city council in April offered two areas owned by the district to accommodate “refugees.” Residents organized a referendum to fight back against the proposal. The vote saw 46.5 percent of voters head to the polls, which passed the minimum requirement of 25 percent.

Despite the commanding majority vote against migrants, Grevesmühlen Mayor Lars Prahler (independent) said that private land is not affected by the vote and the vote only applies to container accommodations. He says that the city can still continue to host migrants in permanent building structures, such as sports halls.

He also added that the city will explore the option of erecting tents for the migrants and that the referendum is only binding for two years.

As Remix News has previously reported, other cities and towns in the same German state have consistently voted against migrant accommodations. For example, in the larger city of Greifswald, 65 percent of residents voted against a container village there. However, the Green party mayor, Stefan Fassbinder, rejected the results and said migrants would be coming anyway. He insisted the vote would not affect the local government’s pro-migration agenda, but would make the decision on where to house newcomers more challenging.

“In the near future, we will have to make even greater efforts to get into the debate, to enter into dialogue with the citizens, with the economy, with everyone else, so that immigration can be successful,” Fassbinder said after the vote. He added: “The refugees will come. The only question is where will they be housed.”

Housing has become a major issue in Germany and the rest of Europe, with unbridled mass immigration fueling a housing crisis and pricing out citizens.

In a sign that Germany’s open-door immigration policy is increasingly being rejected by more and more voters, polling data from one of Germany’s largest states, Baden-Württemberg, shows that 68 percent of voters there believe the federal government’s migration policy is exacerbating the housing shortage.

The poll, from INSA and commissioned by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group in Baden-Württemberg, showed 68 percent believe the government’s policy is harming the housing market, while only 19 percent of people were convinced otherwise. Although INSA performed the polling for the AfD, it is considered one of the most respected polling firms in the country and performs polling directly for a variety of parties.

The poll has some surprising results, with 60 percent of Green voters saying they fear the influx of migrants will worsen the housing market. However, far higher numbers were recorded for other parties, including 72 percent of Social Democrat (SPD) voters, 74 percent of Christian Democratic Union (CDU) voters, and 82 percent of AfD voters.

Church of England Priests Say Premarital, Gay Sex Not Immoral

Canterbury Cathedral Choir, Michael D Beckwith, CC-Zero

A majority of priests of the Church of England want the church to offer same-sex weddings and allow premarital and gay sex, according to a major survey.

The survey, conducted by the Times, found most Anglican priests think church teaching should be brought into line with public opinion on moral issues.

Most priests support a change to allow gay couples to get married in church, with 53.4 percent in favor and 36.5 percent opposed, revealed the survey, which assessed responses from 1,200 active Anglican priests.

The Church of England currently allows blessings for gay couples but only permits church weddings between a man and a woman.

A significant majority of the priests surveyed (62.6 percent) said the church should change its teaching on the immorality of premarital sex, with 21.6 percent accepting all fornication and 41 percent saying sex outside marriage is fine for people in “committed relationships.”

A little over a third of the priests (34.6 percent) said the church should not change its teaching on sex outside of marriage.

Similarly, 64.5 percent of priests said the church should end its opposition to gay sex and more than a quarter of those surveyed (27.3 percent) saying homosexuals should be allowed to have sex with whomever they want.

Another 37.2 percent of respondents said sex was fine between gay people in “committed” relationships such as civil partnerships or marriages but frowned upon casual gay sex.

Fewer than a third (29.7 percent) said church teaching should not change on the matter.

In 1998, Anglican bishops from around the globe passed a resolution declaring homosexual practice is “incompatible with Scripture.”

At the time, Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey said: “I stand wholeheartedly with traditional Anglican orthodoxy. I see no room in Holy Scripture or the entire Christian tradition for any sexual activity outside matrimony of husband and wife.”

This autumn, England’s bishops will discuss formally reversing that teaching as well as whether to allow homosexual priests to have civil weddings, a practice supported by 63.3 percent of the priests surveyed.

Taxi driver killed in Germany for 10 euros – Tunisian defendant says during interrogation: “Killing is a good thing”

In room 701 of the Moabit Criminal Court, around 11 am, everyone present noticeably takes one’s breath. The 24-year-old defendant had just really said: “Killing is a good thing”. He said this during interrogation by the Berlin police with two officers and an interpreter. The recording will be played again on Tuesday on the big screen for visitors and trial participants. The accused confessed to stabbing a taxi driver in Berlin right at the beginning of the recording.
In the early morning of April 6 this year, Maundy Thursday shortly before Easter, the 49-year-old taxi driver was found seriously injured by a passer-by in Grunewald. He immediately administered first aid, but the taxi driver died in hospital that morning. The funeral service for the father of a 14-year-old son and a 22-year-old daughter in the Sehitlik Mosque in Berlin-Neukölln was attended by the family and many Berlin taxi drivers.

Even before the accused says the terrible sentence about killing, he tells of his flight from Tunisia in 2011. He was only 13 years old when he arrived in Italy with distant relatives on Lampedusa. He has not seen them since. He arrived in Belgium via France, where he lived until the beginning of the year.

In order to possibly explain the accused’s “extraordinary attitude” towards human life, the officers asked about the background of his escape as a seventh-grader and whether he had been a victim of violence in Tunisia. For both questions, the accused stated that the answers were too private.
Sitting silently in the glassed-in dock, the alleged perpetrator also watched himself testify in the video on Tuesday morning. His defence lawyer had said that her client did not want to testify for the time being. He had already confessed to the offences several times. Later in the recording, the accused reported that he had boarded the train in Liège. His actual destination would have been Denmark on the way to Oslo, Norway. Two days earlier, the accused had killed a woman in Belgium.

While changing trains on his way to Berlin, the accused said, he had already tried to find someone at a station between 4 and 5 a.m. on the morning of April 6. He had last eaten at 12 noon the previous day. “When I got off the train, I was hungry,” he says, “I wanted to take someone’s money, to kill him.” But he found no one on the streets, although “anyone” would do. He was too proud to ask for money or food on the train.

The interrogating officers insinuated in the video that the alleged perpetrator “gets a kick” from killing. After all, he had declared that he had stolen the new shoes he was wearing when he was arrested in Flensburg from a supermarket. Why didn’t he also steal bananas or other food at this shop instead of killing a man, an officer asks? The accused says: “If you want something, you have to kill.”
The taxi driver’s children and his sister are joint plaintiffs in the trial. One of their lawyers says during the trial: “What makes this crime so special is that it happened out of nowhere by absolute coincidence, so there are a lot of questions.” After reading out the indictment, the court gave the legal advice that the placement of the accused in a psychiatric hospital could also be considered.

The woman in Belgium and the Berlin taxi driver were murdered with the same knife. The accused says he had it ready in his jacket pocket when the taxi driver took him to Brahmstraße in the Grunewald district of Berlin. He had already picked out the place on the map on the train because of the large green area. The two had communicated in English. In the video he says, “I’m waiting for him to stop so I can kill him.” He then recounts the gruesome details of the murder.

He found his way into violence in Belgium, at least that is what he claims. There, the 24-year-old had been selling cocaine for a long time, to which he added: “This road is surrounded by murderers.” For him, it means that killing is “a good thing”. He had chosen this path until he died. When asked if he would continue to kill, he said, “Well, now I’m in prison, I think I’ll sit it out.”

Only towards the end of the video does he describe the moment when the taxi driver had left the car and he was alone in the car. He found only ten euros. Asked if he had been satisfied with that, he said, “It was enough to fill my belly and drive on.” With the money, he said, he bought chips and Capri Sun. The trial continues on September 5 and the verdict is scheduled for September 29.

German ISIS bride who left 5-year-old Yazidi slave girl to die of thirst in midday sun jailed for 14 years

A German woman who joined the Islamic State in Syria, enslaved a 5-year-old Yazidi slave girl, and left her chained up to die in the scorching sun has had her sentence increased to 14 years’ imprisonment.

Jennifer Wenisch, an Islam convert from Lohne in Lower Saxony, was initially jailed for 10 years in October 2021 for her role in the girl’s death. This, however, was increased at a hearing on Tuesday at the Higher Regional Court in Munich.

The German national was convicted of enslavement resulting in death and of being a member of a terrorist organization.

Having fled Germany for Syria to join the Islamic death cult back in 2015, Wenisch married Taha Al-J., an Iraqi citizen, and was recruited to join the organization’s morality police where she was responsible for enforcing the draconian Islamic laws on dress code and public behavior.

During her time in Syria, 32-year-old Wenisch and her ISIS fighter husband purchased a Yazidi woman and her 5-year-old daughter to work for them as household slaves.

Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking religious group who suffered genocide at the hands of the Islamic State throughout the 2010s, resulting in the murder of thousands of Yazidi men and the sexual enslavement of Yazidi women.

At her initial trial, the court found that the Yazidi woman and her daughter were subjected to horrific abuse by their captors; the young child was eventually bound in the midday sun and left to die of thirst as punishment for wetting the bed in August 2015.

The mother survived the ordeal and testified at trial, telling the court how Wenisch had later put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her if she continued to cry over her daughter’s death.

Wenisch was ultimately arrested the following year while attempting to renew her travel documents at the German Embassy in the Turkish capital of Ankara; she was subsequently extradited to Germany to face trial. Her husband was sentenced to life imprisonment by a German court in November 2021.

After her initial sentencing, Wenisch sought to appeal her conviction, a matter that was thrown out by Germany’s Federal Court of Justice, while the prosecution also appealed what it considered to be the ISIS bride’s lenient sentence.

On Tuesday, the Munich court held that Wenisch had “acted out of contempt for fellow human beings,” was equally responsible for the death of her 5-year-old victim, and sentenced her to 14 years’ imprisonment.

Belgium to Block Single Male Asylum Seekers to Make Way for More Families

The Belgian government said Wednesday it is imposing a ban on providing shelter for single men seeking asylum, arguing its insufficient reception capacity should be freed for families, women and children first. Aid organizations condemned the move as reneging on international commitments.

Belgium has long come under criticism for failing to provide enough shelter to the thousands of people who are seeking protection from persecution back home and long lines of tents along streets outside the main processing center in Brussels have become a stain on Belgium’s reputation.

On Wednesday, Asylum State Secretary Nicole de Moor said increasing pressure on asylum housing was expected over the coming months and she “absolutely wants to avoid that children will end up in the streets this winter.” Instead, single men will have to fend for themselves.

The move was met with scathing criticism from human rights organizations.

“We thought we´d seen it all, but no. The Belgian government isn´t just sitting on human rights, it´s burying them by `suspending´ the reception of single male asylum-seekers,” said Philippe Hensmans, director of Amnesty International Belgium.

De Moor was complaining that the influx of asylum-seekers over the past two years in the nation of 11.5 million had filled the shelter centers to near capacity of 33,500. Last year, Belgium had nearly 37,000 applications for protection, the federal agency Fedasil said.

On top of the asylum-seekers, Belgium is also giving help to some 62,000 Ukrainian refugees who fled Russia´s war in their country.

Last year alone, labor courts convicted Fedasil over 5,000 times for failing to provide proper shelter.

Still, said de Moor, “our country has already done more than its share for a long time,” and called on some other EU nations to increase their effort instead.

Last December, Europe´s top human rights body already urged Belgian authorities to provide better assistance to asylum-seekers after hundreds of people slept on Brussels streets in freezing temperatures.

The Council of Europe´s commissioner for human rights said that a lack of available spots in reception facilities was damaging asylum-seekers´ rights to health and other basic needs.

Germany: Woman sexually abused by Syrian in hospital after leg amputation

Ctsu, CC-BY-SA-2.5,2.0,1.0, Wikimedia Commons

The surgery was well completed, but the horror came afterwards: Abuse in the hospital bed – that’s what two female patients reported.

The Syrian Zakwan A. (43) has been on trial at the Hamburg-Mitte district court since Tuesday. He worked at the University Hospital Eppendorf (UKE, photo) in the food service and allegedly sexually abused two female patients (52, 53) there.

Both women had just undergone surgery, could hardly walk, and the older woman’s leg had been amputated.

“My client is initially defending himself in silence,” the defence lawyer explained. In other words: wait and see what the witnesses can remember at all three years after the crime.

This tactic did not work for the first witness, Yvonne R. (52). She still feels the hands of the accused on her body:

“I was paralysed. I couldn’t react because I was so shocked.” She could only turn her head to the side when A. tried to kiss her, at the same moment his hand slipped between her bandaged thighs.

The nurses then believed that Patient R. had suffered a stroke – because she could no longer speak! An abuse trauma, which she thought she had overcome after years of therapy, had reappeared.

To this day, Yvonne R. has speech disorders, hardly ever leaves her flat out of fear. “I had just rebuilt my life well and now I am completely thrown back.”

She used WhatsApp to tell another patient what had happened to her. The reaction was shocking. Yvonne R.: “She started crying and said: ‘If I had been braver, you would have been spared this’.” Because she had also been abused by Zakwan A..

This woman is Ulrike H., she is supposed to testify on Tuesday.

Berlin gay club worried about refugee home

The former hostel on Warschauer Platz becomes accommodation for 650 refugees – the disco is directly opposite, https://www.google.de/maps

The gay and lesbian club “Busche” has been in Berlin for 40 years. The owner sees its future threatened – by a new refugee home on the other side of the street. That’s why she wrote an open letter to the Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (50, CDU).

The “Busche” was founded in 1985 on Buschallee (Weißensee), and has resided on Warsaw Square (Friedrichshain) since 2004. Two dance floors, the audience also comes from Brandenburg. Now operator Carla Pahlau is thinking about giving up.

Reason: In the next few weeks, a refugee home for up to 650 people will be opened in a former hostel directly opposite the club. The asylum seekers come from Turkey, Afghanistan and Syria. “We were only informed about the opening of the home a week ago,” says Pahlau to the BZ

She worries about her guests – they would be afraid. “In the last few months, the number of crimes against homosexuals in Berlin has increased enormously,” said Pahlau in her letter to Wegner. “The vast majority of offenders are migrants with a Muslim background.” According to the justice administration, however, no data is collected on the religious affiliation of the offenders.

If there are conflicts with her guests after the opening of the home, it’s over for Pahlau. “Then the club will not be able to continue to exist.”

Are the club operator’s concerns justified? The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office refused to answer the question to the BZ, social administration and queer officer Alfonso Pantisano (49) did not even answer.

“We consider the decision for this location to be a catastrophe,” said the two CDU MPs Kurt Wansner (75) and Timur Husein (42) to the BZ Not only because of the proximity to the “Busche”, the two politicians emphasize. “The proximity to the Matrix disco and the crime-ridden area of Warsaw Bridge as well as the drug hotspots RAW Gelände and Görlitzer Park will also lead to massive upheaval in the Rudolf-Kiez. There will be a massive increase in crime.” Wansner and Husein continue: “We therefore call on the responsible Senate administration not to open this location.”
