Irish Hate Speech Law will See Ordinary People Treated Like ‘Drug Dealers’: Senator Keogan

Free Speech Ireland

Hate speech laws currently going through the Irish parliament will see ordinary people treated like “drug dealers” over their views, a Senator has said.

Senator Sharon Keogan has warned that the hate speech law being pushed through parliament by Ireland’s progressive government could, if implemented, see regular people in the country treated like “drug dealers” on account of what they say.

Keogan made the comment while attending an event hosted by Free Speech Ireland aimed at raising awareness about the coming legislation, which includes a highly controversial provision that could see someone potentially jailed if they are found in possession of an offensive meme.

As currently written, the hate speech law will assume anyone in possession of hateful material can be presumed guilty of wanting to spread it, unless they can prove themselves innocent. If they are found guilty under the new law if and when it is passed, a person can be jailed for up to one year.

Speaking at the event, Keogan said that she had received numerous emails from concerned members of the public about the bill, which she said will ultimately see ordinary people who wish to speak their minds criminalised under the legislation in a way similar to those dealing in illicit substances.

“You [would be] treated like the local drug dealer,” Keogan said, painting a picture of a scenario where someone comes under suspicion of being in possession of hateful material, resulting in their home being raided and their electronic devices seized.

Also attending the event was Senator Rónán Mullen, who expressed fear that the legislation would serve as a serious disincentive for the public to express their personal views.

“Nothing should be allowed that can have a chilling effect on free speech,” he stated, adding that he regretted “not jumping up and down about this legislation sooner.”

He added that the legislation would also only affect the rights of the general public to speak their minds, with elected officials like him to continue having their speech protected under laws dealing with the country’s parliament.

Another speaker, former ambassador and senior Department of Foreign Affairs official Ray Bassett discussed the origin of the bill, arguing that the government’s decision to push the legislation through parliament was ultimately inspired by the European Union.

Describing the legislation as a form of censorship “repackaged” to look more progressive, he also expressed concern that many politicians — especially progressive MPs currently floundering in the polls — could be incentivised to support the bill in the hopes of padding their resumé for a job in the likes of Brussels or New York.

Speaking to Breitbart Europe, a representative of Free Speech Ireland expressed gratitude to those who attended the event, praising the work of the two Senators in particular in trying to oppose the bill.

“We are glad that the issue is finally getting the attention that it so badly needs,” the group representative said.

“We are seeing members of the [Senate] who are prepared to fight this issue,” they continued. “This is an excellent opportunity to discuss the concerns raised by our group.”

“We hope that the [Senate] debates this issue thoroughly with specific consideration of the 2018 blasphemy referendum result,” the spokesperson added. “This is the only electoral mandate in recent years on the issue of free speech.”

Pakistan: Hindu man beheaded by a Muslim mob in the middle of the night for protesting against the eve-teasing of his daughter

Image via The Rise News

Atrocities against Pakistani Hindus continue as a 50-year-old Hindu man named Amlakh Bheel, belonging to the Bheel tribe was beheaded by Muslims on May 9 for protesting against the eve-teasing of his daughter, Reshma Bheel in Shahdadpur in Sanghar district of Sindh.

Reportedly, the deceased victim’s relatives said that Amlakh Bheel had warned the Muslim youths to file a police complaint against them saying that he knew someone in Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, a Hindu rights organisation in Pakistan protesting against abduction and forced conversion of Hindus in the country, particularly in Sindh and Punjab province.

Although the police have registered a complaint, no arrests have been made so far as the police claimed that the victim Reshma Bheel could not identify the youths.

Speaking to The Rise News, deceased Amlakh Bheel’s relative Girdhaari Bheel said “In the middle of the night, some unknown people arrived to attack Amlakh Bheel. When Amlakh’s relatives went to the outhouse after hearing the noise, the suspected Islamist perpetrators fled the spot after beheading Amlakh Bheel. Amlakh succumbed to his wounds.”

It is pertinent to recall that a 42-year-old Hindu woman named Daya Bheel was gangraped, beheaded and her breasts chopped off in Sindh in December last year.

In March this year, a retired Hindu doctor named Beerbal Genani was shot dead near Layari Expressway in Karachi while he was returning home from his clinic.

UK Schools not including Hinduism in Religious Education says report

An online survey was conducted by Insight UK to gauge and understand the state of Hindu Dharma in Religious Education in the UK (United Kingdom) schools from parents and students. The organization states that this was one of the most successful Hindu surveys based on the number of responses received and the good distribution of responses from all four countries in the UK.

The project was supported and guided by the Hindu Forum of Britain, Hindu Council UK, National Council of Hindu Temples (UK), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (UK), and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK).

Religious Education in the UK

Religious Education (RE) is a mandatory subject in state-sponsored schools in the UK. Several concerns have been raised across the country by parents and educationalists about the reduction in the availability, content and quality of teaching Hindu Dharma in Religious Education in UK schools. Grave errors in resource content, lack of understanding among RE teachers and incorrect references are some of the issues that can create a lot of harm. This also adversely impacts UK’s Hindu youth and will impact future generations as well.

“The lack of awareness amongst Hindu students about their religion is leading to issues related to forced conversion, an inferiority complex, bullying, psychological harm and even suicide. At the same time, the lack of awareness about the Hindu religion among non-Hindu students deprives them of a worldview, as well as the religion and culture of one of the largest and most contributing minority communities in the country. This results in ignorance and insensitivity towards Hindu people and their beliefs. This can even lead to racial hate crimes”, notes Insight UK’s website.

Survey findings
PC: Report by Insight UK

Hindu Dharma is the third largest religion practised in the UK, yet the report finds that teaching Hindu Dharma in mainstream UK schools is very limited, flawed and often ignored. This imbalance has led to an inaccurate portrayal of Hindu Dharma and can result in feelings of negativity and ignorance when meeting UK citizens belonging to the Hindu faith.

The researchers came to know that many teachers lacked the necessary training to teach Hindu Dharma. Hence, non-specialist teachers with limited subject knowledge are used at times to teach RE which in turn leads to inadequate teaching. Another issue is the inaccurate content of online teaching resources that usually contain wrongful if not malicious content about Hindu Dharma. This affects the learning of students who are consuming false and inaccurate information taught to them.

One of the parents, whose child was studying the Key Stage 3 curriculum in a UK state comprehensive school, learned Hindu Dharma was hardly taught but Islam was preached. When the mother expressed her concern about the imbalance to the headteacher, she was asked to withdraw her son from RE. The school refused to ask the LEA to review the curriculum and bring a balance of teaching all faiths.

Parents informed that on many occasions, the RE teacher had taught and portrayed Hindu Dharma so negatively and inaccurately during lessons, that their Hindu child had felt extremely disappointed with RE lessons. Children have even reported that their peers expressed contempt towards them based on their misunderstanding of Hindu Dharma.

Furthermore, there are very few awarding bodies offering Hindu studies alongside the study of other religions. Additionally, most UK schools prefer to study Abrahamic faiths as they are easier to teach and gain better exam results as a cohort. This results in a narrow vision of beliefs instead of providing a world view of religions. Moreover, it is the schools that choose the subject on behalf of Hindu students forcing them to opt for Abrahamic faiths instead of their Dharma.

Teachers are choosing Abrahamic religions as this is the easiest option to teach, as often these Abrahamic religions have similarities with each other. As Christian and Muslim school student numbers are larger, the schools are also likely to choose these religions as their choice of study at GCSE. This is thought to help improve the schools’ examination scores. Therefore, the teaching of Hindu Dharma and other religions is severely impacted.

The vast majority of primary schools surveyed were academy schools, free schools, or state comprehensive schools. The majority of the respondents were unaware or not sure of what resources were being used by RE teachers to teach Hindu Dharma. The survey found several instances of misinformation being taught as part of Hindu Dharma. Also, the findings highlight that outdated social issues like the sati system are still taught under Hinduism in RE. It was noted there was an inappropriate link made between religion and gender disparity in education in India.

The secondary schools comprised a diverse range of schools with 80 per cent having their RE syllabus dictated by LEAs. Among the parents of secondary school students as well, the respondents were unaware or not sure of what resources were being used by RE teachers to teach Hindu Dharma.

Secondary school students were also being taught outdated social issues and disproved theories. Further, important Hindu symbols are not being taught which leads to confusion and misunderstanding amongst young impressionable minds. As far as GCSE students were concerned, 93 per cent of respondents stated that Hindu Dharma was not offered at all for GCSE.

On the rare occasion that Hinduism was offered, it was only a full GCSE in around two-thirds of schools. 87% of Hindu parents and children were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the learning of Hinduism at the GCSE level. The findings highlight that many social issues, disproved theories and misinformation that are being taught exclusively as part of Hinduism in UK schools.

A majority of the parents opined that it was very important or extremely important to learn Hindu Dharm which shows that there is an appetite among the Hindu community for their children to learn Dharma. The survey also showed that most used home-schooling to teach Hindu Dharma.

Parents opined that UK schools must teach yoga, ayurveda, meditation, the law of Karma, Vedic Mathematics, Hindu cultural values (Sanskaras), the scientific rationale behind Hindu customs, and Hindu granthas (Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas, Gita etc) among others.

Sati tradition, caste system, Hanuman is a monkey god, Hindu Dharma is against women’s rights, the myth of the Aryan invasion, and misinformation taught under the concept of Karma and incarnation are some of the topics that are taught incorrectly or should not be taught. It must be highlighted that 23 per cent of respondents have offered to support, or have supported the school to teach Hindu Dharma. This indicates that teachers may need help from Hindu parents to fill in knowledge gaps.

The majority of respondents stated that they would like to help improve the teaching in some shape or form, including standing as a SACRE member, helping schools with Hinduism, teaching Hinduism outside of school, or even becoming a RE teacher for a school. Insight UK has drafted several suggestions for government & policymakers, SACRE, schools, examination boards, and the Hindu community.

“The project findings and recommendations highlight the need for a dedicated organisation to take this work forward. The vision of the organisation will be to create opportunities for high-quality education in Hinduism in RE in UK schools. To achieve this, the organisation will engage with multiple stakeholders such as the national government, local authorities, exam boards, publishers, teachers, parents and students”, notes the report.

‘France welcomed a record 600,000 people last year,’ warns French mayor while calling for more restrictions

During an appearance on the Europe 1 television station, the mayor of the French city of Cannes, David Lisnard, warned that immigration has become a major problem in France after it accepted a record 500,000 migrants last year. He says the government must bring immigration under control or risk societal consequences.

“It is communication itself that creates the problem. Immigration has become a major problem in France, we received more or less 600,000 people last year — 600,000. This is a (new) record. Hence, we must close the taps on immigration today, in the interest of the balance of French society,” said Lisnard.

Lisnard was critical of French President Emmanuel Macron and his government, indicating that they focus more on “communication” regarding the issue of immigration rather than actually enforcing immigration law:

All we see are (…) the exclusions of security on the part of the executive. Immigrants should be given the proper conditions for assimilation. (…) Laws are multiplying. There is a problem of legislation, which has to be adapted and adjusted, the denial of legal residence in France must be re-established. But besides politics, laws and rules, there is also the implementation. Of course, we can have a discourse on legislation, but we must also realize at what point did the implementation decline and the executive has declined, and at which point it has been focused on communications sequences. The executive has to execute, it has to confront solutions and evaluation, that is the way to regain confidence.

As Remix News previously reported, a broad range of voices are raising the alarm about mass immigration in France, including former DGSE director and former ambassador Pierre Brochand. The former intelligence chief said during an appearance on state-owned France Culture radio.

“Fifty years ago, we had the best public services in the world. We were proud and the whole world envied them. Today, they are vilified by everyone, and we complain about them. So what happened in between?

The 35-hour workweek cannot be ignored, it indeed played a role. But every year we accept 450,000 people who have not contributed a cent to the infrastructure they will use from day one. We’ve taken on board 2.6 million people in the last five years. How do you expect those people, who then become over-consumers and under-contributors, not to put unbearable pressure on public services?”

Brochand warned that France is on its way to becoming a Third World country if immigration continues unabated, especially given the enormous costs as well as soaring crime associated with France’s foreign population.

Polling shows two-thirds of the French want a stricter immigration policy; however, under Macron, migration numbers hit a new record in 2022. France also remains unable to deport many migrants, even those with criminal records, which in some cases has had tragic consequences, including the rape and murder last year of 12-year-old Lola by an Algerian migrant long scheduled for deportation. Data shows that only 0.2 percent of Algerians scheduled for deportation were actually deported in 2021.

Secret Emails Reveal Biden Admin Faked China Spy Balloon Outrage – “Guidance from S (Secretary of State) is to push non-balloon actions to the right”

Remember that time China invaded our territory with surveillance programs? Old news.

Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with top Chinese official Wang Yi in Vienna this week to move beyond the Chinese spy balloon incident and reestablish communication.

The meetings between Sullivan and Yi, which took place Wednesday and Thursday, were the highest level of engagement with China since the surveillance balloon traversed the United States in February.

“I think both sides recognize that unfortunate incident led to the bit of pause in engagement. We’re speaking now beyond that and reestablishing some standard channels of communications,” a senior administration official said about the meeting.

When asked whether that means the incident is over for the Biden administration and there won’t be any consequences, the official said, “We’ve been clear where we stand in terms of the breach of sovereignty.”

All too clear. The Chinese haven’t apologized or promised not to do it again. And the Biden administration has moved on. But even that’s inaccurate because previously unreleased emails show that the administration’s outrage was purely for public consumption. It was as fake as everything else about the Biden administration.

While the State Department signaled U.S. displeasure over the balloon by postponing Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s scheduled visit to Beijing, an internal State Department message reviewed by Reuters shows senior U.S. officials delaying planned actions against China.

Who was actually delaying Blinken’s visit, America or China?

One Chinese official confirmed to Reuters that a renewed Blinken visit would be more likely if the U.S. accommodated Beijing’s wish to shelve the issue, adding that China had conveyed it did not want the FBI to release details of its investigation into the downed balloon.

And who does the FBI answer to? Biden. And who does Biden answer to? According to the GOP House Oversight Committee, whoever is sending Hunter Biden all those checks.

So there was some performative public outrage while behind the scenes, the S.S. Appeasement sailed full steam ahead.

Rick Waters, deputy assistant secretary of State for China and Taiwan who leads the China House policy division, said in a Feb. 6 email to staff that has not been previously reported: “Guidance from S (Secretary of State) is to push non-balloon actions to the right so we can focus on symmetric and calibrated response. We can revisit other actions in a few weeks.”…

In late March, Waters told a staff meeting that the State Department would “move on” from the balloon incident with China, following guidance from Sherman who was eager to reschedule the Blinken trip, two of the sources said…

The U.S. State Department held back human rights-related sanctions, export controls and other sensitive actions to try to limit damage to the U.S.-China relationship, according to four sources with direct knowledge of U.S. policy, as well as internal emails seen by Reuters.

At what point does this sort of thing become outright collaboration?

The State Department also pushed off sanctions against Chinese officials, including some at the Central Committee’s United Front Work Department bureau responsible for policies in Xinjiang, where the U.S. government says Beijing is committing genocide against Muslim Uyghurs.

Ah there we are.

Left-wing German government pushes for 250,000 Kenyan immigrants amid migration crisis

Germany’s left-wing government, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, is pushing to bring in 250,000 Kenyan migrants to fill what the government claims is a shortage of skilled workers. During a joint press conference with Scholz in the State House of Nairobi, Kenyan President William Ruto said that a draft agreement between Germany and Kenya is currently being worked on to facilitate the transfer of Kenyans to Germany.

“In Kenya, we see great potential for the migration of skilled workers in many areas of our economy,” said Scholz after meeting with Ruto. He added that the government wants to “create more regular, legal immigration opportunities for those who want to work in Germany,”

The news comes at a time when Germany’s population continues to hit record high after record high, the migrants already in the country already face extraordinarily high levels of unemployment, stabbing attacks involving men of foreign origin are a daily occurrence, and the 16 state governments are begging the federal government to reduce immigration.

The agreement would help facilitate the immigration of approximately 250,000 Kenyan professionals, skilled workers, and semi-skilled workers to Germany, according to German newspaper Die Welt. Kenya is pushing Germany to drop immigration restrictions facing Kenyans.

Scholz has already struck a new deal to encourage labor migration from Kenya under a framework linking Kenya technical and vocational educational training (TVET) schools with similar TVET colleges in Germany, which will help sync accreditation standards between the two countries and boost migration to Germany.

“We have agreed to establish a technical team from my office and the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Labour in both countries, to initiate discussions, expeditiously navigate the procedures and formulate an appropriate framework for the export of labor to Germany,” Ruto said.

“To bridge the language gap, we agreed to introduce the teaching and learning of German in basic education institutions, TVETs, and other institutions of higher learning. Germany agreed to support us in training teachers,” he continued.

Kenya faces serious structural and sociological problems

Ruto claimed during his meeting with Scholz, that Kenya would like to send to Germany “our very well-trained specialists.” However, despite the numerous “trained specialists” Ruto claims are in Kenya, the country faces a series of serious problems, and to the extent that these specialists can actually help improve the situation, Kenya may be better served if they stayed in the country.

Kenya still faces extreme poverty rates, and in terms of countries with the highest HIV rate, Kenya takes spot number four with approximately 1.4 million infected with the disease. Over 19 million people in the country drink unsafe water, including from polluted river sources, which leads to rampant infections and deadly cases of diarrhea. Over 5,000 children die every year due to drinking unsafe water. Malaria infections also still plague the country and health services are insufficient in nearly all regions of the country.

Corruption is also rife in the country, with the country scoring 32 out of a scale of 100, with 100 representing “very clean” corruption levels. That score placed Kenya 123rd out of the 180 countries in the Transparency International’s index.

In terms of crime, multiple studies have “found that Kenya is one of the most crime-infested countries in Africa.” In fact, according to the report entitled “Kenya’s corruption problem: causes and consequences,” even police are directly working with criminals, including providing arms to gangs, releasing criminals for bribe money, and helping transport stolen goods.

Ethnic tensions also remain high between various tribes in the country, which has led to deadly riots in the past.

As Remix News has previously reported, Europe’s desire to poach skilled workers from African countries is problematic on many levels. For one, these developing countries are presumably in dire need of workers with these skills, including doctors. Critics say the resulting “brain drain” can exacerbate instability and even lead to increasing mortality in African countries.

At the same time, it is well-documented that many of those with “credentials” from African universities often obtained their degrees and certifications through bribery, cheating and fake universities. For European authorities, sorting out who has valid degrees and qualifications is nearly impossible.

Kenya faces large trade imbalance with Germany

The meeting between Germany, which is already set to spend €36 billion in 2023 on its exploding migrant population, says it will send more money to Kenya to help the country modernize its TVET institutions.

Germany is Kenya’s biggest commercial partner in East Africa, but most of the trade is lopsided, with Kenya buying from Germany and exporting far less. The president of Kenya pointed out that his country purchased $392 million worth of German goods and exported only $130 million.

“I have therefore called on the chancellor to review tariff barriers and allow Kenyan products to enter Germany as well as the European market,” said Kenya’s leader.

Disastrous “Muslim Study”: 38 per cent follow the Quran and not Austrian law

In Germany too !

A study revealed a dire attitude of Muslims towards the Austrian constitutional state. Politicians and the mainstream are sharply critical – but not of the results, but of the methods of the survey.

The survey, conducted by the University of Vienna under project leader Endnan Aslan, found, for example, that 38 percent of Muslims do not want to obey Austrian laws if they contradict the Quran. Accordingly, this group could also be called objectors to the state. But what do politics and the media do? They do not talk about the frightening contents of this study, but rather about the fact that the “Muslims Study” is controversial.

ÖVP Education Minister Martin Polaschek immediately distanced himself from this survey via the Austrian press agency APA – he rejected the methods of this study, said Polaschek, who thus showed solidarity with the Muslim Youth Austria (MJÖ) and the anti-racism NGO ZARA. According to an APA report, both organisations criticised the “tendentious questions” and the fact that Muslim pupils of the 9th grade were taken out of regular classes for the survey.

For example, they were asked whether Muslims should only be friends with their own kind and whether women should be punished for immoral behaviour. The students were also asked to decide who would go to hell and to assess whether men were weaklings if they did not use violence. “I am disturbed by the sight of disabled people” is another statement that should be assessed. Another: “When women wear miniskirts or revealing clothes in public, they signal sexual willingness.”

However, ÖVP Education Minister Martin Polaschek should be less concerned about the survey methods of the University of Vienna, but rather about what comes to light in studies. As reported, only yesterday, Wednesday, a study presented in Linz on “mosque teaching in Upper Austria” caused sheer consternation. Because according to the teaching materials used in mosques in Upper Austria, only Islam is the only true religion. Other religions are not valid. Moreover, it is taught that Muslim children should only have Muslim friends and that believers who question the contents of the Quran will face consequences. Moreover, it is never explained why girls have to wear a headscarf at all.

With this study, one could come to the conclusion, said Upper Austria’s Deputy Governor Manfred Haimbuchner of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), that integration is apparently undesirable and that integration is actively prevented by mosque lessons. Haimbuchner said literally:

We stand for the practice of religion within the framework of religious freedom.
However, if an ideology is spread under the guise of religious freedom that is not compatible with the values of Austrian society, the state must take action.

German Capital Lifts Hijab Ban on Public School Teachers

Muslim teachers in Berlin, the German capital, have been authorized to wear Islamic headscarves in the classroom after a court determined that the city’s religious neutrality law, which imposes a blanket ban on sectarian clothing and symbols in public schools, is discriminatory and unconstitutional. Muslim Brotherhood associated figures and organizations were instrumental in reversing the ban and are treating the decision as a major victory.

Berlin is one of eight German states with neutrality laws of this type. Berlin’s abandonment of this measure is likely now to lead to Islamist efforts to rescind parallel laws in the other states.

German political commentator, Anabel Schunke, who has followed the headscarf ban issue for many years, told FWI that the policy change, which marks the latest chapter of a decades long legal battle between Islamists and their opponents over headscarves, is “a symptom of the general incapability of German politicians to realize that criticizing the archaic rules of radical Islam has nothing to do with racism.” Headscarves, she said, “are not ‘just a piece of cloth’ but a symbol of political Islam.” She added that the pressure within the Muslim community to wear a headscarf “has been increasing for years” and “the more girls with headscarves in school, the greater the pressure on the others.” A teacher with a headscarf “will make the situation even worse.”

Berlin’s two-decade-old neutrality law, which was designed to combat the spread of political Islam in the public school system, has long been a target for the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups that — mirroring the U.S.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) — have fought tooth and nail against headscarf bans.

Berlin’s Neutrality Act (Neutralitätsgesetz) was promulgated in January 2005 amid a raging nationwide debate over the growing presence of Islamist symbols — exemplified by the hijab and other female head coverings — in public sector institutions. The measure focuses on public schools because teachers in Germany are civil servants.

The neutrality law prohibits “teachers and other employees with a pedagogical mandate” from wearing “visible religious or ideological symbols that demonstrate affiliation to a specific religious or ideological community” including “conspicuous religious or ideological clothing” while on the job in public primary and secondary schools. This includes Islamic headscarves as well as Christian crosses and Jewish skullcaps.

Ever since the law entered into force, Islamist groups, including some with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, have tried to nullify it through anti-“Islamophobia” campaigns, government lobbying, and strategic lawsuits.

One such legal action involved a Muslim woman who was fired from a teaching position in Berlin in 2017 because she refused to remove her headscarf in the classroom. In August 2020, Germany’s Federal Labor Court (Bundesarbeitsgerichtruled in the woman’s favor. It declared that a blanket ban on wearing a Muslim headscarf on the job “violates the freedom of religion” that is protected by Article 4 of the German Constitution, known as the Basic Law (Grundgesetz). The court ordered Berlin to pay the woman more than 5,000 euros in compensation. Berlin appealed the decision.

In January 2023, Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgerichtupheld the lower court’s ruling by declining to review the case. The decision, which is final, was in line with a previous ruling by the same court in January 2015 which held that a blanket ban on headscarves for teachers in public schools in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia was unconstitutional. The judges declared that attempts to “privilege Western Christian educational and cultural values” violate the Basic Law.

On March 28, the Berlin Senate Department for Education (Senatsbildungsverwaltung) sent a circular to all public school principals in the German capital, stating that Berlin’s government will henceforth “move away from its previous literal application of the neutrality law.” It explained that it would abandon a blanket prohibition on religious clothing and symbols, which will only be banned from classrooms “in cases where there is a specific threat to school peace or if it endangers state neutrality.”

The demise of Berlin’s Neutrality Act is a major victory for the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated organizations, which have long opposed the law. One of these groups is a Berlin-based Islamic association called Inssan (Arabic for “people”), which is tied to the Brotherhood and generously funded by George Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OSF).

Inssan operates from the premises of an Islamist group called Muslim Youth in Germany (Muslimische Jugend in Deutschland, MJD), a proselytizing organization dedicated to spreading fundamentalist Islam among Muslim and non-Muslim children. The property that houses Inssan was purchased by one of Europe’s most prominent Muslim Brotherhood operatives, the Egyptian-German Islamist Ibrahim El-Zayat.

Although MJD claims to be independent, an investigation by the German Parliament (Bundestagrevealed that it is closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliate, the Brussels-based Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organizations (FEMYSO), an influential Islamist group that actively opposes European laws that promote secularism.

A key figure in the legal effort to defeat Berlin’s Neutrality Act is Turkish-German lawyer Zeynep Çetin, who was, before receiving unwanted media attention for her aggressive activism, a project coordinator for the so-called Network against Discrimination and Islamophobia (Netzwerks gegen Diskriminierung und Islamfeindlichkeit). The group is part of Inssan and is tied to the German Muslim Association (Deutsche Muslimische Gemeinschaft, DMG), formerly called the Islamic Community of Germany (Islamische Gemeinschaft in Deutschland, IGD), which, according to German intelligence, is the central organization for Muslim Brotherhood followers in Germany.

Other Islamist groups involved in the campaign to overturn Berlin’s Neutrality Act included the Anti-Discrimination Network of Berlin (ADNB), which was founded by Inssan and the Turkish Federation in Berlin-Brandenburg (TBB), a group that, among other aims, seeks to repeal a longstanding rule that only German may be spoken in city schoolyards because it “disrespects” Muslim students. ADNB lawyer Maryam Haschemi Yekani litigated the lawsuits aimed at bringing Islamic headscarves into Berlin classrooms.

Inssan activists also exerted influence on the so-called Expert Commission on Anti-Muslim Racism (Expertenkommission zu antimuslimischem Rassismus), which was established by the Berlin Senate to investigate “Islamophobia” in the German capital. The commission’s final report criticized the neutrality law as “systematic and institutionalized discrimination against women with headscarves,” and branded it as an example of “institutional and structural anti-Muslim racism.”

Berlin’s public school system has become a battleground between Islamists and secularists due to mass migration and the staggering number of Muslim students, who comprise the majority in roughly half of the 120 secondary schools in the city. In some schools, more than 90 percent of students are Muslim. This has fueled concerns that Berlin schools are becoming hotbeds of Islamic radicalism and separatism.

Germany’s largest women’s rights organization, Terre des Femmes, denounced the reversal of Berlin’s Neutrality Act. In a statement it said that “from a Western point of view, we tend to view the headscarf from a non-political perspective,” but “in political Islam, which is not compatible with the basic values of our democracy, the headscarf manifests the unequal treatment of men and women.” It added that Muslim girls who do not wear a headscarf often “suffer religious bullying” and are sometimes “referred to as ‘sluts’ and ‘unclean whores,’” and that teachers wearing headscarves will “reinforce such stereotypes.”

German Islamism expert Zara Riffler wrote that the defeat of Berlin’s Neutrality Act “is a success for political Islam, which for years has fought it in the courts and lobbied against it in politics.” She described the law’s reversal as “a step backwards” for Berlin.

Anabel Schunke, the German political commentator, told FWI that Germany is losing the fight against Islamism. “If you ask me, it is already too late,” she said. “In many German schools (not only in big cities like Berlin) most of the students are migrants, most of them Muslims. Muslim kids are not integrating into the German culture, but rather, German kids are integrating into the Islamic culture.”
