Controversial Islamist Majid Freeman, who fanned Leicester riots with fake news, meets Leicester Mayor to peddle more poison against Hindus

Islamist ‘activist’ Majid Freeman met Leicester Mayor to peddle poison against Hindus (SS from video)

On October 11, controversial Islamist ‘activist’ Majid Freeman took to Twitter to inform that he had a “productive meeting” with the Mayor of Leicester. He claimed that the Mayor made some commitments regarding the allegedly rising “Islamophobia” and acknowledged the “Hindutva” ideology was causing the chaos. Notably, Majid Freeman is one of those Islamists who fanned the Leicester riots with fake news. Moreover, he also has links to terror organisations.

In the video published by Freeman, he said, “Today we met Mayor of Leicester Peter Soulsby and talked directly to him. We got some commitments.”

Mayor Soulsby said in the video, “There were a lot of tough questions. I mean, quite right that people are concerned about what happened, concerned about what it means, concerned about the ideology behind it. But I hope I pick up the questions, I hope we give straight answers to it. And I think more important, I was listening as well while just answering the question and I think just the beginning of discussion about these issues, particularly now when they review as to what happens, because I think when that review reports we need to talk about what does that mean?”

Majid continued, “I think we just wanted to communicate. These are kickbox exercises. Don’t need to come in today, don’t need to be the tough question. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction and we have more meetings and hopefully.”

To which Mayor replied, “I very much hope so and I hope that the issues that lie behind these are ones that together we can look and tackles and make sure they don’t destroy what’s basically the guy who I think is probably going to be leaving on that tomorrow and see how long it would take. But what he’s says something in our hands.”

Who is Majid Freeman

To understand who Majid Freeman is, we must travel back to 2013 when ISIS activity was at its peak in Syria. In 2013, BBC aired a documentary about the “Aid for Syria” convoy which had “humanitarian organisations” and “activists” travelling to Syria to help those affected by ISIS atrocities. BBC at the time hid the names of the charities involved in the convoy – it was later revealed by analyst and scholar Sam Westrop that those charities were One Nation, Al Fatiha Global, and Aid4Syria.

In 2013, when the Aid For Syria charity was being exposed for its fundamentalist Islamist nature by several scholars, Majid Freeman was in Syria under this banner, with another “aid worker” Alan Henning, who was later abducted and beheaded by ISIS. He was with Henning when he was abducted by ISIS, indicates reports.

Freeman spoke at the memorial service for Henning, calling him a beautiful man who helped when the international community looked away. However, according to a Telegraph report, only two weeks after the beheading, he started posting messages supporting ISIS. In his Facebook post, he asked for “dua” for a British ISIS terrorist Ifthekar Jaman who was charged with a Syrian terror plot. He also posted a video that essentially said that ISIS was a reasonable response to Western policy and said, “This brother hit the nail on the head”.

Majid Freeman, according to the Telegraph report, has expressed support for Al Qaeda terrorists calling them Shaheed, said that Al Aqsa will be conquered by Jihad, and expressed sympathy and support to the Al Qaeda cleric who incited terrorist attacks against non-Muslims.

Interestingly, the Telegraph report also reveals that Freeman was questioned by the police but was not been charged with any crime in relation to Aid4Syria.

Majid has, essentially, encouraged European Muslims to “do jihad in Syria,” and has promoted “tributes” to the late Al Qaeda terrorist Anwar Al-Awlaki on his Twitter and Facebook accounts – this screenshot was posted by Sam Westrop in his expose.

Majid Freeman and his links with organisations connected to Al Qaeda, IHH – Is there a PFI connection?

At the heart of this question, are three so-called charities that were ‘working’ in Syria – Aid4Syria, Al Fatiha Global (Aid4Syria’s parent organisation), IHH, and Children in Deen and One Nation.

It is pertinent to note that Majid Freeman was travelling in the humanitarian convoy to Syria along with these organisations and is personally involved with others like One Nation and Aid4Syria.

Given the involvement of Majid Freeman in the violence against Hindus in Leicester, the misinformation he spread to instigate Muslims to target Hindus, and his terror sympathising views and associations, one has to wonder if there is more to the violence than meets the eye. The fact that IHH was involved in the Syrian convoy, of which Freeman was a part, and that IHH has forged an alliance with the banned radical Islamist organisation PFI in India which works explicitly against Hindus (read this vision document to know about their plans to turn India Islamic and subjugate Hindus) raises far more questions than it answers.

‘One day, it will be necessary to mass troops in front of the Élysée’ – Former Paris police chief paints bleak future for France due to crime and mass migration

Just three months after retiring from his position as the head of the Paris police department, Didier Lallement is warning that France is headed for a societal breakdown that will one day require French troops to guard the Élysée Palace, the residence of the president of the Republic.

The controversial Lallement details a “dark vision of society,” in a new book entitled “The Necessary Order,” which presents a France “eaten away by individualism, conspiracy, Islamism, and survivalism,” along with what he referred to as “the Uber-ization of the drug market.”

However, according to French media outlet Valeurs Actuelles, one area that Lallement’s book has a particular focus on is the topic of illegal immigration. The former Paris police chief writes that “one out of every two crimes is committed by a foreigner, who are often in the country illegally… It is clear that some of the newcomers are integrating through delinquency.”

Lallement’s claim that half of all crimes are committed by foreigners in France, despite them only making up approximately 22 percent of the population, is supported by recent data from the French interior ministry.

Lallement also writes that the problem with migrants and illegal immigration played a major role in the riots and assaults at the Stade de France, which served as one of France’s biggest scandals in recent times. The incident saw large groups of migrants attacking and robbing English and Spanish football fans earlier this year, sparking international outrage and sharp criticism towards French President Emmanuel Macron.

Lallement blames himself for the incident, and stated that he could not have imagined that “migrants would come to loot at the gates of the stadium.”

“I fully assume the failure of this evening,” he writes. He also writes that he would have resigned immediately due to the incident if Macron had not asked him to wait. However, Lallement writes in his book that the riots and assaults at the Stade de France, along with the general breakdown down in security, are only foreshadowing much larger social upheavals to come.

“The social convulsions will be intense and destructive… One day, it will be necessary to mass troops in front of the Élysée,” he writes.

Lallement is best known for his brutal crackdown on the country’s Yellow Vest movement, which resulted in a number of protestors being severely injured. Now, in television interviews, he has shed his uniform, clipped manner of speaking, and what Paris Match referred to as his “icy mask.” Instead, he now sports jeans, a hipster beard, a “philosophical look,” and a gentle demeanor.

Lallement reiterates that he does not accept the term “police violence,” despite fierce opposition from human rights groups. He said that the violence is rife in Paris, including with firearms, threats against elected officials, and police being attacked during protests; all of this results in the police sometimes responding with force. He said there are some “black sheep” in the department and incidents of racism, but they are the great exception.

The former police chief is not the only former top official warning of a breakdown in society and possible conflict, with a large number of former top generals writing an open letter warning of civil war in France in the coming years. The country’s former top intelligence director for the DGSE , Pierre Brochand, also said earlier this year that the country could face a civil war due to mass immigration,

“All my accumulated experiences make me foresee a dark, and even very dark, future for our children and grandchildren,” he warned.

France has the largest Muslim population in Europe, and poor integration and criminal violence from the country’s immigrant community has led to a deterioration in the country’s security and social cohesion. A majority of Frenchpeople wish for a slowdown of or even a complete halt to immigration, but France’s political establishment has shown little interest in complying with their wishes despite paying lip service to the issue. Nevertheless, top opposition politiciansmainstream politicians, and academics have long warned that the ethnic French face a bleak future unless they can reverse demographic trends and restrict immigration.

“We will make him a Samuel Paty”: History teacher threatened with death in Evry-Courcouronnes, France

A few days before the second anniversary of the death of Samuel Paty – a teacher murdered by an Islamist terrorist in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine on October 16, 2020 – a teacher received death threats. The Lycée Brassens in Evry-Courcouronnes (Essonne), where he teaches, received a letter addressed to the headmaster on October 10. As CNews reported on Wednesday October 12, this letter contained threats against a history teacher and his father. The two men are of the Jewish faith.

The author of the letter threatened to ” make him a Samuel Paty “, i.e. to kill him under the same circumstances as Samuel Paty, who was beheaded after showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in class. As CNews further reports, the letter also reportedly said, “We don’t want Jews in high schools.”

The letter was seized by police and investigated, BFMTV reports. The Evry-Courcouronnes prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into a death threat against a person in public service. It was entrusted to the urban security department of the Evry police station, the broadcaster reports. According to its information, the threatened teacher had not raised any sensitive issues in class with his students that could justify such threats.

‘Hurts the sentiments of Muslims’: Islamic body opposes permission to sell beer at departmental stores in India

On October 11, Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a group of various social, educational and religious organisations in the Kashmir valley, condemned the decision of the Jammu & Kashmir administration’s decision to allow the sale of beer and other ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages in the departmental stores. As per the reports, the Islamic body has said in a statement that the decision deeply hurts the sentiments of the Muslim community.

They further added that Kashmir is a Muslim-majority place and such decisions show ‘utter disregard for the tenants of Islam’. The statement read, “Open sale of alcohol in departmental stores will further promote addiction which is a major issue in Kashmir, especially among our youth, something that the authorities also claim to be concerned about. It will also encourage immoral behaviour.”

The body further questioned why the sale of alcohol was being encouraged in J&K while it was banned in some states. They urged the administration to withdraw the decision immediately.

Congress opposed the decision to allow the sale of beer

Apart from the Islamic body, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress also condemned the decision on October 11. The party called it an anti-youth move. They said that ‘after downgrading J&K’s statehood, the proxy BJP administration is pushing the youth in the UT towards alcohol addiction.’

Raman Bhalla, JKPCC working president, said, “The people of Jammu gave 25 MLAs to BJP, and it returned the favour with the worst gift possible”. He added that the decision would tarnish the image of Jammu, the holiest city of temples, that houses Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.

Bhalla claimed that such a decision would encourage the consumption of alcohol that would affect the youth. He said, “When BJP was in the opposition, it used to blame the Kashmir-based governments for pushing Jammu youths into addiction. Now, the party has resorted to the wholesale opening of liquor shops in J&K.”

Mehbooba Mufti condemns the decision

In a statement, Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the decision. She said, “They (LG’s administration) issued an order yesterday allowing the sale of liquor in departmental stores. In their ‘model’ state of Gujarat as well as Bihar, the sale of liquor is banned. But here, they have brought a separate law to hurt the sentiments of Muslims.”

She added, “Religious scholars are being put behind bars, and others outside are being maligned. The government policies have failed, and if they keep pursuing wrong policies and continue with atrocities on the people, the results will be negative.”

Sale of beer allowed by J&K administration

On October 10, The Jammu and Kashmir administrative council, under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, approved the incorporation of liberal provisions in Jammu and Kashmir Liquor Licence and Sale Rules, 1984, and Excise Policy, 2023-24 for the grant of licence JKEL-2A. With the decision, the departmental stores in the urban areas will be allowed to sell beer and Ready to drink beverages in the UT.

14 arrested after students riot over right to wear religious garb inside French school

Protesting students, who blocked the entrances to the Joliot Curie high school in Nanterre, clashed with police on Tuesday, resulting in 14 students being arrested for hurling projectiles at officers and shooting firework mortars.

The high school has become a flashpoint in the city of Versailles, featuring teacher strikes and regular rallies in support of a suspended mathematics teacher, however, the school of 1,600 students is also protesting over the right to wear religious garb, which is in violation of French law designed to preserve secularism.

Two officers were injured during the clashes, and police responded with tear gas and burst rounds. Students say they will lift the blockade only when the ban is lifted on wearing loose clothing, such as abayas, which are long loose dresses worn throughout the Islamic world that cover everything from the neck down to the ankles. In addition, students want the restoration of homework help in all subjects and the reinstatement of a suspended mathematics teacher, according to Le Parisien newspaper.

Ten of the arrested are minor high school students, mostly between the ages of 15 and 17, and four are not students of the establishment. The blockade was led by around 30 students and followed by a maximum of 250 people, but the protesting students claim that the blockade was supported by 90 percent of the student body.

Despite a strict history of secularism, there is a growing trend of Middle Eastern and North African students wearing religious garb in French schools. French Education Minister Pap Ndiaye indicated that feedback from the field confirmed “an increase in reports” of attacks against secularism since the start of the school year for “wearing clothing or accessories of a religious nature.” Those include abayas and qamis (long clothing for men), in schools, colleges, and high schools, as reported by the BFM TV news outlet.

The minister, who had pledged total “transparency” on these issues, released the figures on attacks on secularism in September on Thursday in an interview with the newspaper Le Monde. He declared that, for September, 313 attacks on secularism were reported versus 904 in the April-July quarter and 635 between December and March.

“The month of September confirms this increase in acts of violation of the principle of secularism,” said Pap Ndiaye, adding that “most of these reports, 54 percent, concern the wearing of religious signs and outfits.”

The rest of the attacks reported are made up of 8 percent for suspicion of proselytism, 7 percent for refusal of school activity, 7 percent for objections to teaching, 7 percent for community claims, 5 percent for verbal provocations, and 2 percent for the refusal of republican values.

“In addition, 10 percent correspond to other forms of attacks on secularism,” notes the Ministry of Education in a press release.

Before the start of the school year in September, a state anti-radicalization service had sounded the alarm: The Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Delinquency and Radicalization (CIPDR) had accused the “Islamist movement” of questioning the principle of secularism at school, based in particular on posts seen on Twitter or TikTok. People are encouraged on social networks to wear clothes marking a religious affiliation.

Interview with Thierry Baudet: ‘Fantastic that Putin exists’

A recent interview with Thierry Baudet has caused a stir on Twitter. For several days now, the trending topic #Baudet has been going around. In the English-language interview, he does not mince his words when talking about the war in Ukraine. In it, he flatly states that he is taking the side of the Russians.

“Now Russia is fighting back. I am very happy with this fight, because finally there is a front. There is now a front against the globalists. I hope Russia wins. I think it is great that there is someone like Putin,” he says around minute 15 in the interview posted on Forum for Democracy’s YouTube channel. “It is one of the most hopeful things in today’s world.”

“Why?”, the interviewer wanted to know. “He is fighting the globalists,” Baudet explained. “He is basically fighting the French Revolution.” He also told the New Zealand interviewer what his hopes were for the break-up of Western powers. “The best thing would be for NATO to break up, like the EU and the United States,” he indicated.

According to some Twitter users, it is abundantly clear: Thierry Baudet is being paid by or is receiving some kind of support from Russia. But this has never been proven. According to Baudet himself, who has also once been asked whether he has links with the Russians, it is total nonsense. “Absolutely not,” he commented.

Some Twitter users were not surprised by Baudet’s words. “Let’s not forget that these attacks on civilian targets in Kiev are also among ‘the most hopeful’ Baudet has ever witnessed,” someone wrote cynically, referring to the recent rocket attacks on the Ukrainian capital.

Support for Baudet: ‘He is not a traitor to the country’

The pro-war globalist Anne Applebaum tore into Baudet on social media: “And here is Baudet, hoping Putin will murder more people and cause more pain and hardship – perhaps hoping someday he can be a quisling or collaborator in an occupied Netherlands too.”

But not everyone shares the views of a few loud critics. In the comments on the YouTube video, hundreds of compliments for the Forum for Democracy party leader were noted. “Refreshing”, “interesting” and “great interview”. With words of praise, viewers have welcomed the message.

On Twitter, too, there is astonishment that Baudet is a trending topic in Dutch. “If anyone cares about our country and the people it is Thierry Baudet,” one Dutch user said. “You don’t have to agree with him, but he is certainly not a traitor.”

CO2 is not the enemy

By Bob Ryan

Scientific studies should not be written in such a way that it becomes impossible for those with little interest in science to comprehend.

They should be written in a way to make what has been learned about the wonders of the universe known to a wider audience. That includes findings about what CO2 is.

Contrary to what seems to have become popular belief, CO2 is not a villain unleashed on the world to bring about global warming under the guise of climate change, which is still used despite the lack of any recent warming.

It does not exist as a greenhouse gas and has no bearing on temperature.

CO2 is the equivalent of one of the good guys in nature. When carbon-based life, like humans, exhale, CO2 is released into the air. It then becomes plant food. Plants take in CO2 and another good guy on the planet – oxygen – is released.

CO2 is one of the heaviest elements in the air we breathe. It does not leap high into the air and stick around the upper atmosphere the way lighter elements do, which are real greenhouse gases, another hero for another time. It stays close to the ground within easy reach of plants.

If it were light enough to be a greenhouse gas, there would be far more than trace amounts there. And would be difficult for the plants that need CO2.

Removal of a significant amount of CO2 would have no bearing on temperature. It would have a negative impact on plants. The greater the amounts of CO2 there are, the better the plants do.

Plants are important for producing oxygen. By default, CO2 is important for plants, and all living creatures.

One of the claims used to vilify one of the good guys in nature is that there is more now than ever before.

The historical records tell us there was more during the time of the dinosaurs, which brought about a greener planet than exists today, and which produced far more oxygen. That higher carbon and increased plant life that spread out even to Antarctica is the most likely explanation for the increased oxygen dinosaurs needed to survive in their sizes.

Do not allow the vilification of CO2 to go unchallenged. It is a very important element needed on this planet. It is one of the good guys in nature.

Ask those who believe CO2 is evil why they believe plant food is evil? Or how one of the heaviest things in the air we breathe can possibly be a greenhouse gas, which is made up of lighter elements in the air.

The laws of physics do not get suspended for wrong beliefs. CO2 can either be plant food, which it is, or a greenhouse gas. Physics requires it to be one or the other. It cannot be both.

Are Muslim ‘Officials’ in Germany Denying Persecuted Christians Asylum in Europe?

By RAYMOND IBRAHIM

The same Germany that took in over a million Muslim migrants in 2015 and ten thousand non-vetted Afghans in 2021 — all people who, by definition, could not be experiencing religious persecution back home as they themselves are Muslim — has refused asylum to a Muslim convert to Christianity, even though one of his relatives was tortured and murdered for the same “crime” of apostasy in his native Iran.

Meet “Hassan”

Going under the pseudonym of “Hassan” to protect his identity, the 44-year-old cabinetmaker applied for asylum in Germany in 2018. The authorities based their rejection of his testimony on their belief that no one would convert to Christianity if they knew what happens to converts in Iran. In this, they were referring to Hassan’s brother-in-law, who introduced Hassan to Christianity, and was later arrested and killed in prison for participating in a house church. German authorities concluded that it was “not particularly likely” that Hassan would become — certainly not remain — a Christian after such an event, as the persecution and murder would have a “deterrent effect” on any other would-be converts, namely Hassan.

After Germany closed its doors to him, Hassan took his case to the European Court of Human Rights. It, too, recently denied his appeal. The 44-year-old apostate from Islam is now set to be deported back to the Islamic Republic of Iran, an act that seems the equivalent of sentencing him to death, or at the very least, extreme persecution and imprisonment.

Hassan’s Testimonial

Before German authorities rejected his request for asylum, Hassan had offered the following testimonial to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees:

My wife’s brother had become a different person by becoming a Christian. We wanted to see if we would get this feeling when we became Christians … .  I had had many problems in Iran … I had many [religious] questions, but I was not allowed to ask them. When I asked questions, I was beaten at school. This led me to want to know which God I was facing. One day my brother-in-law said to me and my wife that he had good news. There is a treasure, there is a living God, Jesus Christ, we are His children and not His slaves … . He said there is a free salvation available.

His brother-in-law would go on to be imprisoned for his house church activities, and finally murdered for his faith in jail.

Christ in Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran, it’s worth noting, is one of the worst nations to persecute Christians — especially Muslim converts.  As one human rights group explained back in 2017:

A great many Iranians have been coming to Christ and it’s something which the authorities are clearly very unhappy about. So there are periodic arrests, detentions, [and] imprisonments. There have been a lot of charges lately which are suggesting an even greater clampdown — sentences of 10-15 years in some cases for Christians. And usually, the authorities will suggest that this [is] the result of undermining the state or seeking to collaborate against the state and will use more political charges than say apostasy or blasphemy laws.

Despite this oppressive climate, and rather than be “dissuaded” by the murder of his brother-in-law, Hassan, his wife and children all went on to embrace Christ. Before long, suspicious Iranian security forces stormed and plundered their home of their books, computer, passports, and Bible. Hassan and his family responded by fleeing Iran, eventually reaching Germany.

“In Germany I share the gospel, I organize prayer circles here in the accommodation,” he said. “I want to be a good example, to win the others to faith in Jesus Christ. My greatest goal would be for my children to be able to find Christ in freedom, and to do good.”

Why Did Germany Find Hassan’s Faith Unintelligible?

Here we come to a critically important though overlooked question: Why did the German authorities find Hassan’s testimony — that he became Christian despite knowing the dire consequences — unintelligible in the first place?  The obvious answer is that, as atheists/materialists, the authorities simply could not believe that anyone would risk their lives just to be Christian.

As Lidia Rieder of ADF, who are assisting Hassan, observes

There are national and international guidelines for asylum applications based on religious grounds … .  Unfortunately, this guidance is being used very selectively by the German decision-makers. They do not understand that maintaining a religious belief when persecuted can be appealing to others and not just a deterrent as seen from the history of Christianity.

There could, however, be another reason that “this guidance is being used very selectively by the German decision-makers”: these decision-makers could themselves be Muslims who are avenging themselves and Islam on these Christ-loving apostates.

For starters, we already know that this exact scenario has played out before. Back in December 2019, CBN News reported

Christian Syrian refugees … have been blocked from getting help from the United Nations Refugee Agency, the UNHCR, by Muslim UN officials in Jordan.  One of the refugees, Hasan, a Syrian convert to Christianity, told us in a phone call that Muslim UN camp officials “knew that we were Muslims and became Christians and they dealt with us with persecution and mockery. They didn’t let us into the office. They ignored our request.” Hasan and his family are now in hiding, afraid that they will be arrested by Jordanian police, or even killed. Converting to Christianity is a serious crime in Jordan.

Similarly, according to Timothy, a Jordanian Muslim who converted to Christianity, “All of the United Nations officials [apparently in Jordan], most of them, 99 percent, they are Muslims, and they were treating us as enemies.”

Addressing this issue, Paul Diamond, a British human rights lawyer, once said

You have this absurd situation where the scheme is set up to help Syrian refugees and the people most in need, Christians who have been “genocided,” they can’t even get into the U.N. camps to get the food. If you enter and say I am a Christian or convert, the Muslim U.N. guards will block you [from] getting in and laugh at you and mock you and even threaten you…. [saying]  “You shouldn’t have converted. You’re an idiot for converting. You get what you get,” words to that effect.

Notable here is that those (Muslim) authorities who deny refuge to Christians habitually mock them and engage in sarcasm — which may well be what the German authorities who denied Hassan were doing when they denied him asylum by essentially saying that no sane person would ever become Christian after seeing the repercussions.

“Where Is Your God Now?”

There are, in fact, many other examples of “Western decision makers” — particularly at the United Kingdom’s Home Office, which runs its immigration program — employing sarcasm and mockery in their decisions to deny asylum to persecuted converts.

Thus, an Iranian female asylum seeker was sarcastically informed in her rejection letter from the Home Office that “You affirmed in your AIR [Asylum Interview Record] that Jesus is your saviour, but then claimed that He would not be able to save you from the Iranian regime. It is therefore considered that you have no conviction in your faith and your belief in Jesus is half-hearted.”

Discussing her experiences, the rejected woman explained her plight: “In my country if someone converts to Christianity their punishment is death or execution.”  Concerning the asylum process, she said that whenever she responded to her Home Office interviewer, “he was either chuckling or maybe just kind of mocking when he was talking to me … .  [H]e asked me why Jesus didn’t help you from the Iranian regime or Iranian authorities.”

Similarly, in his rejection letter from the United Kingdom’s Home Office, one Iranian man was told that several biblical passages were “inconsistent” with his claim to have converted to Christianity after discovering it was a “peaceful” faith.  The letter cited biblical excerpts — including from Exodus, Leviticus, Matthew, and Revelation — as supposed proof that the Bible is violent, before concluding: “These examples are inconsistent with your claim that you converted to Christianity after discovering it is a ‘peaceful’ religion, as opposed to Islam which contains violence, rage and revenge.”

In short, it seems that some Muslims in the West have gained the power and authority to do what they do in the Muslim world — discriminate against and send Christians and apostates off to their deaths.

Germans should wear two sweaters, work more, and drop vacation to deal with crisis, says former finance minister

Another German politician is calling on citizens to make sacrifices and prepare for a loss in prosperity. This time, Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU), Germany’s finance minister for eight years under Chancellor Merkel and former president of the German Bundestag, is calling on Germans to put in more effort and complain less.

Regarding the energy shortage that is crippling German industry and threatening Germans with cold homes this winter, he said, “Then you just put on a sweater, or maybe a second sweater. One should not moan about it, but one must recognize: Many things are not self-evident.” In addition, citizens should prepare for power outages with candles, matches, and flashlights.

Regarding inflation and high energy prices, Schäuble, who has an estimated net worth of between €1 million and €5 million, said that the state could only support those who are in serious need.

“To the others, one must also say: In times of need, you cannot take a vacation trip. The danger I see is that we believe the state is something that merely has to supply more and more to its citizens,” he told Bild newspaper. He added that the state is not a supermarket and the citizens are not bargain hunters.

Considering Schäuble spent nearly his entire career working in the realm of public administration, he has never really held a job in the private sector or been subjected to market forces that could cripple his standard of living, such as surging energy prices. He always received his salary regardless of where the economy was going. Critics also pointed out that it was under his party, the CDU, and his stewardship, that Germany pursued its cheap energy policy that led the nation to rely on Russian gas.

Schäuble also criticized that Germans want to work less, mostly part-time, and never on weekends. “That won’t work. Because there is a shortage of workers everywhere! My experience is: Always having fun – that’s not life fulfillment,” he said to Bild.

Although there is a worker shortage in Germany that needs to be addressed, many Germans are already working full-time and yet are facing bankruptcy along with fears that their jobs may soon be gone; and putting on a sweater is not necessarily going to fix the situation, writes Bild journalist Johannes Bockenheimer.

Schäuble joins a wave of politicians across Europe working in tandem to prepare citizens for a loss of prosperity due to the very policies they have championed. Many of these same wealthy politicians will not have to worry about heating their homes, having enough money to buy groceries, or having any reduction in their vacation time. In fact, EU politicians in Brussels just gave themselves a 7 percent raise on top of their already large salaries. Other German politicians have also called on Germans to make “sacrifices” to support Ukraine, including the chairwoman of the German parliament’s influential defense committee, liberal-democrat Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP).
