French conservatives slam push by Macron’s deputy to legalize voting for all foreigners in municipal elections
A deputy for Emmanuel Macron has put forward a radical constitutional bill aiming to grant voting rights to all foreigners in French municipal elections, with the move earning harsh criticism from conservatives who warn the entire’s country’s future faces dire consequences if such a bill passes.
Currently, only foreigners residing in France from the European Union have the right to vote in these type of elections. However, Sacha Houlié, an MP in the French city of Vienne for Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party — which recently rebranded from La République En Marche! (LaREM) — says foreigners should not only be able to vote but also run for elected office.
“This recognition is long overdue. However, we owe it to those who have often and for a long time participated in the dynamism of our society,” said Houlié who also denounced what he said is the “discrimination between two categories of foreigners.”
Politicians from the conservative and right-wing politician spectrum are heaping crticism on the proposed change to the country’s voting laws.
“I will oppose this project with all my might,” warns Eric Ciotti, a deputy from Nice for Les Republicans and candidate for the presidency of his party.
Marine Le Pen’s party was also quick to slam the bill.
“While (Interior Minister) Gérald Darmanin agitated the media over the (failed) expulsion of an Islamist, the Macronists quietly tabled a bill for the right to vote for foreigners, that is to say the final dispossession of the French from their country. They will find the RN on their way!” wrote Jordan Bardella, the president of National Rally (RN).
The move to allow non-EU foreigners to vote in French elections has long been advocated by the left, including former President Hollande. Left-wing parties, which almost uniformly promote mass immigration across the West, have long seen replacement immigration as a means towards securing permanent electoral majorities. For example, data from the last election shows that 85 percent of Muslims ended up voting for Macron, showcasing why his party may be so interested in converting more foreigners into a stronger voting bloc. This strategy from the left seeks to offer as many voting access opportunities to foreigners, including non-citizens. Laws, such as the one advocated by politicians in Macron’s party, have been seen in cities like New York. However, a judge there recently ruled that the city’s law allowing non-citizens to vote was illegal.
There are signs that Macron himself is not necessarily onboard with the idea, at least not yet, with his own interior minister coming out against it.
“The Minister of the Interior is firmly opposed to this measure,” said an official working for Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
Even if the text were to be adopted by the National Assembly and the Senate as it currently reads, the journey to law would still be long because the proposed constitutional law would still have to be adopted by national referendum.

Don’t Like Progressivism, ‘Don’t Apply to Work for Us’ – UK Police Force
A police force in Britain has told the public that it does not want those who dislike progressivism to even apply to become one of their officers.
Critics of progressive politics need not apply, one police force in the United Kingdom appears to have declared, telling the general public that it does not want those who dislike their left-wing politics to even attempt to become one of their officers in a social media post online.
The declaration by the British Transport Police (BTP) was made in the wake of a number of policing organisations joining a Pride parade in the British city of Brighton, with members of Sussex Police in particular being pictured posing in rainbow colours at the event, despite the fact that British police forces are mandated by law to be politically neutral.
However, seemingly pre-empting outcry over the political nature of attending a Pride event, the official social media account of the British Transport Police publicly defended the presence of its officers at the parade, before telling any individual offended by the pro-progressivism actions of the force to refrain from applying for a job with them.
“Inclusion isn’t political, and we’ll always celebrate being as diverse as the communities we protect,” the social media account declared.
“If you’re offended by this, please don’t apply to work for us – thanks,” it went on to say.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this post did not win plaudits from many netizens, some of whom took issue with what appeared to be a declaration by the force that they will illegally discriminate against applicants based on their political and social beliefs.
Despite its initial strong statement on the issue, the force has since claimed that it never intended to imply that it was looking to discriminate against what it described as people with “gender-critical” views.
“The purpose of our tweet on Monday was to support members of our workforce who were representing the force at a Pride event,” they claimed on social media.
“The tweet was is [in] no way intended to imply that [British Transport Police] would discriminate against people who hold gender-critical beliefs, which we recognise are capable of being protected under the Equality Act 2010,” it further claimed.

First Italian investigated for enlisting in Ukraine
The first Italian has been placed under investigation for enlisting to fight alongside Ukrainian combatants in the war in Ukraine.
Kevin Chiappalone, 19, from Genoa, is a sympathizer of the far right group CasaPound. He risks a jail term of 2-7 years.
Genoa’s anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor Marco Zocco has accused him of being a mercenary who joined the Ukrainian International Brigade.
DIGOS security police began their probe into Chiappalone after he told the weekly Panorama that he wanted to go and fight to defend Ukraine after hearing Russian President Vladimir Putin say he planned to “de-Nazify” the country.
Many Italians are believed to have gone to Ukraine to fight.
Previously, some Italian mercenaries were reported to be fighting alongside pro-Russian forces in the eastern and Russian-speaking breakaway Donbass region where fighting has been the fiercest of late.
