“He is spreading the right kind of message”: Zemmour’s response to the founder of BarakaCity, who wants to promote the emigration of Muslims from France

This is perhaps one of the few points on which Éric Zemmour and Idriss Sihamedi agree. The candidate of the Reconquête! party for the presidential elections next April was a guest on BFM TV on Wednesday March 30. He was asked in particular about the recent announcement by the founder of BarakaCity, an association that was dissolved because of its links to radical Islam. Idriss Sihamedi had made a proposal on his Twitter account on March 28. He suggested organising the departure of Muslims from France in the event of Éric Zemmour’s election victory.

Idriss Sihamedi said that the situation in France no longer allows Muslims to “live their faith in safety” and that “sooner or later, a clear solution must be found for those who reject assimilation”. He said that there was a ” great opportunity” in Africa or in other countries that are “more hospitable than France”. Éric Zemmour did not object to this idea. For the professional journalist, Idriss Sihamedi says ” the right message, so to speak “.

On BFM TV, Éric Zemmour cautioned: “If Muslims don’t want to break away from a rigorous practice of Islam (…) in that case, they have to leave.” He went on to explain to Apolline de Malherbe: “In Islam, there is a will to regulate the whole life of individuals that is contrary to French civilisation. It is a different civilisation, different customs”. For this reason, “Islam is incompatible with France”, he said. Éric Zemmour finally put his statements into perspective, recalling that there are, however, “Muslims who break away from a rigorous practice of Islam and adapt to France”.

EU signs agreement to sell citizen’s data to the US

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President Biden have announced an “agreement in principle” on a new EU-US data exchange. In essence it means that the EU is willing to sell the data of its citizens to the Biden administration. EU citizens have not been consulted on this matter.

Austrian lawyer Max Schrems, who had obtained the annulment of the similar Orwellian Safe Harbor agreement in 2015 followed by that of the Privacy Shieldin 2020, announced that he would take the matter to the EU Court once again.

Previous attempts had been invalidated by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) because it failed protect European Internet users from the violation of their privacy by American multinationals.

Schrems and his data protection association NOYB said: “We already had a purely political deal in 2015 that had no legal basis. From what you hear we could play the same game a third time now. The deal was apparently a symbol that Von der Leyen wanted, but does not have support for among experts in Brussels, as the US did not budge. It is especially appalling that the US has allegedly used the war on Ukraine to push the EU on this economic matter.

“The final text will need more time, once this arrives we will analyze it in depth, together with our US legal experts. If it is not in line with EU law, we or another group will likely challenge it. In the end, the Court of Justice will decide a third time. We expect this to be back at the Court within months from a final decision.”

For the time being, the latest announcement is one of political intent only, and no text has been provided that can be analyzed. As far as NOYB [an abbreviation for ‘none of your business’] is informed, such a text does not exist yet and will take a couple of months to be drafted.

This is probably what was meant by an “agreement in principle”: Lawyers still have to find ways around the obstacles raised by the Court of Justice (CJEU). So far no solutions were delivered despite two years of discussions.

According to NOYB, the US is not planning to change any surveillance laws, but rather concentrate on executive reassurances (using EU language like “proportionality”). It is unclear how this would remotely pass the test by the CJEU, as US surveillance was already held not to be “proportionate” by the CJEU. Previous agreements failed twice in this respect.

There seems to be no update to the Privacy Shield used for commercial data usage, despite the coming into force of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Any new deal would not be a bilateral agreement, but an executive decision by the European Commission, that would have to be reviewed by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) first. This process can only be initiated once there is a legal text. An actual “adequacy decision” would therefore need at least some months.

Companies can therefore not use the deal until it is formally passed, while any decision will be challenged in the European Court of Justice. NOYB said it expected to be able to get any new agreement that did not meet the requirements of EU law back to the CJEU quite soon via for example civil litigation and preliminary injunctions. The CJEU may even take preliminary action, if a deal clearly violated previous judgements.

Overall a political announcement without an accompanying text, has generated even more legal uncertainty for the time being.

“It is regrettable that the EU and US have not used this situation to come to a ‘no spying’ agreement, with baseline guarantees among like-minded democracies. Customers and businesses face more years of legal uncertainty,” said Schrems.

European Council President Charles Michel, who hosted US President Joe Biden in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, confirmed that an agreement had been reached on the transfer of personal data belonging to European Internet users to the US.

The US-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting which is scheduled for May, will be used as the “united” battering ram against Russia in the data economy.

The United States appears not to be backing down in any way, while the European Union has simply lowered its requirements to announce a “new” deal.

Imam accused of sexist remarks to be expelled from France

It all started with a video posted on the mosque’s Facebook page in July 2021, reports the newspaper 20 Minutes. Mmadi Ahamada spoke in Arabic and French to several hundred men who had gathered for the Eid-El-Kebir festival. “You Muslim women who want to enter paradise,” he said, “stay in your homes and do not display yourselves in the way women did in pre-Islamic times,” before urging women not to submit to the ” practice of depravity and vice.

This speech was denounced by the regional councillor of the Rassemblement National, Isabelle Surply, and prompted the prefect of the Loire department to question the extension of the imam’s residence permit from the Comoros in France “in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of the Interior”. Thus, the imam of the Attakwa mosque in Saint-Chamond was “suspended from his functions” because of “discriminatory statements directed against the equality of women and men”.

While the imam is to be sent back to the Comoros with his wife and three young children, the head of the department’s Council of the Muslim Religious Community (CDCM) says that “it is a purely political matter that has little to do with religion”. Salim Agoudjil asserts that the content of the speech was “purely religious, with no discriminatory aspects” and denounces “an appalling attempt to interfere in religious discourse”.

Germany: Arab refugees rape 14-year-old daughter of refugee aid worker

The agonisingly long road to justice!

6 years after her rape in a refugee home in Lüchow-Dannenberg, Annika R. (20, name changed) faced her alleged tormentors again on Monday!

In March 2021, Mohamad T. (25) and Schadi A. (25) had been sentenced under juvenile law to two years and 18 months imprisonment on probation and a fine of 500 euros each. A lenient sentence! But the duo appealed. Now the second trial at the Regional Court of Lüneburg! For victim Annika R. a martyrdom, a horror – hopefully this time with an end!

The daughter of a refugee aid worker from Hanover gave Mohamad T. and Schadi A. lessons in German language on the day of the crime in 2016. According to the indictment, they first drank tea in the accommodation. Suddenly, Mohamad T. allegedly held the girl’s arms while his accomplice stripped Annika R. and raped her.

The Syrians allegedly threatened the 14-year-old to kill her family if she talked. Out of shame and fear, she said nothing. Only a year later did she reveal her secret.

At the start of the trial, the accused remained silent. Annika R. was questioned in camera – and cried. Her lawyer Pascal Ackermann: “She is still traumatised, wants to finally be able to put the matter behind her.”

Verdict expected in May.

German Green party leader Baerbock wants to take in 10 million Ukrainian refugees

Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has spoken out in favor of taking in up to ten million Ukrainian refugees, which would represent nearly quarter of Ukraine’s population, and result in nearly 9 times the refugee influx seen during the 2015/2016 Syrian crisis.

“We have to be prepared for eight to ten million refugees coming from Ukraine. And we will take them all in,” the politician said on Saturday at the Greens party conference in Brandenburg.

It is unclear if Baerbock is arguing to temporarily take these refugees in or offer them permanent residence. Most refugee from previous conflicts, such as the Balkan war, have never been forced to return to their countries and there are few signs that they will be in the future. If Europe were truly to take in 8 to 10 million Ukrainian refugees, it would result in an enormous housing, educational, and social services burden at a time when countries are already dealing with rising housing and food inflation.

The costs of Germany’s existing migration burden are already enormous. Even before the current refugee crisis, the country planned to spend €64.5 billion in integration and social costs for migrants in the country over the course of four years. It is unclear how many refugees Germany would specifically take in, but Germany recently complained it was at “its limit” after accepting 250,000 Ukrainian refugees. Other countries, such as Sweden, have already signaled they will not take many Ukrainians in.

There are obvious differences between refugees from the conflict in Syria and Ukraine, with most refugees from Ukraine consisting of women and children, but the scale of the exodus into Europe is far larger as the Ukrainian crisis is currently taking place within Europe’s continental borders.

The foreign minister explained that she also did not know how long the tense refugee situation would last, however, she said that she hopes that one day it will be again possible to travel from the English Channel to Kazakhstan through a “free and peaceful Ukraine.”

Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser spoke out against collecting personal data of Ukrainians arriving in Germany.

“We are talking primarily about children and women who have been on the run for days, who had to endure the cold at the Polish border,” she said, explaining that these people should not be held up at the German border for control purposes.

There are concerns that many of the people entering Europe from Ukraine are Middle Easterner and Africans using the chaos of the situation to cross into Europe, with some claiming they were “students” in Ukraine. A report from France showed that approximately one in three refugees who claimed they were Ukrainian were not actually Ukrainian.

The number of people fleeing from Ukraine to Germany continues to rise. As the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday, around 270,000 refugees have already arrived in Germany.
