France: A veiled woman on a banner for Women’s Rights Day causes controversy
A controversial banner. This was unfurled by the Green city council on the gable end of Poitiers city hall on Tuesday, March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, as La Nouvelle République reports. Among other things, the banner depicts a veiled woman wearing an Islamic hijab in blue. Immediately, the two municipal opposition groups reacted, vigorously denouncing an attack on secularism and universalism.

The campaign group “Our priority is you!” denounced in a press release “the attack on the fundamental principles of our secular democracy by the municipal majority”. And further: “The display of a woman demonstratively wearing a religious sign of whatever kind on a public building such as the town hall is unacceptable and contradicts the universal values that must be worn, especially on the occasion of this day, March 8.” The other group, “Poitiers, l’avenir s’écrit à taille humaine”, also declared via Alain Claeys that “this does not correspond to the image I have of women’s freedom”. And he affirmed: “I do not have a narrow view of secularism. But on the day when one defends women’s rights, this symbol is particularly ill-suited.” The majority of the city administration simply refused to respond.

German outdoor clothing manufacturer Jack Wolfskin advertises with a fully veiled model
Tuesday was International Women’s Day. In Berlin, it has even been a public holiday since 2019. I’ll leave aside whether schools have to be closed and the economy shut down for this. However, in view of the blatant human rights violations against women in many, predominantly Islamic, countries, it is important and necessary to remember the long road to equality.
Especially since the erosion of women’s and girls’ security has been steadily progressing for years. Even in Germany, the everyday life of women and girls is increasingly marked by sexual assaults, rape, bodily harm and murder. The New Year’s Eve in Cologne in 2015, in which hundreds of women became victims of sexual assault, is unforgettable.
That night, at the latest, women learned the lesson that they are no longer masters of their personal freedom and security. Those who go out must consider what clothing is “appropriate”. Because showing too much skin or wearing one’s hair down can even be understood by men from Muslim cultures as an “invitation” to overstep boundaries.
In Islam, family honour depends to a large extent on the behaviour and reputation of female family members. Wearing a headscarf is a religious obligation for women and girls from puberty onwards in Islam. The Qur’an commands them in Suras 33 and 59 to “veil themselves in their wrappings” because in this way they would be “more likely to be recognised” and would “not be injured”.
A woman who is visually recognisable as a Muslim through her headscarf is virtually safe from assault. An “infidel” woman is therefore not. The Muslim headscarf is therefore not a harmless piece of cloth, it is the calling card of the inhuman Sharia and the symbol of the oppression of women.
The outdoor outfitter Jack Wolfskin has probably not heard of the struggle of Muslim women for freedom and self-determination. The company is currently advertising with a fully veiled model. A sponsored video clip featuring “Amira”, a hiking-loving British Muslim woman wearing a niqab, is running on social media. The veil, which only leaves out the eyes, is praised by Jack Wolfskin as desirable diversity with the following slogan: “Amira is the founder of Wanderlust Women, a community that promotes more diversity in the outdoors!”
Hurray for the marketing people who have succeeded in squaring the circle, selling a sign of inequality as a symbol of freedom. The headscarf is the end of all diversity, it is the uniform of a misogynist religion. In countries like Saudi Arabia or Iran, women are imprisoned and physically punished if they do not veil themselves properly. Under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, it sometimes even costs them their lives. What message does Jack Wolfskin want to send to women and girls in the Islamic world?
The veiling of women is the end of self-determination and individual development. Even Muslim “influencers” and romantic nature photos can’t change that. Let’s hope that customers will punish the company accordingly for this failed advertising campaign.

Islam is the only winner in this European tragedy – and it knows it
by Giulio Meotti
The Islamic State is exultant: “The war in Ukraine is a punishment against the infidels”. They are right.
While Qatar is the great energy winner of this war – Italy has now shown the way and prime minister Mario Draghi is openly negotiating new gas supplies with the Emir of Qatar – Islamic volunteers arrive on the ground from all over the world. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz says clearly, “Erdogan’s Turkey is the great winner of the conflict”. Time reports that one of the most important weapons against the Russians are Turkish drones, as the Muslims of Crimea are increasingly under Erdogan’s protection.
Former editor of the Jerusalem Post, Caroline Glick, adds another aspect of the geopolitics of civilizations. Former State Department official and Iranian sanctions expert Gabriel Noronha released details of the nuclear deal that the United States is ready to conclude next week in Vienna with Iran. Noronha provided his report to officials at the National Security Council, the State Department and the European Union who divulged the contents of the nearly completed agreement in hopes of convincing Congress to stop Joe Biden from moving forward sooner.
“Noronha’s sources described a total collapse of all US positions and a willingness to lift all sanctions against the Iranian terror masters” writes Glick. Biden’s envoy Robert Malley has agreed to remove the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from the State Department’s list of terrorist groups. He also agreed to remove Iranian institutions that finance and conduct terrorism, repression, mass murder, torture and other crimes. The easing of sanctions Biden is granting will provide Iran with a cash injection of more than $90 billion shortly after the deal is concluded and another $50 billion annually through oil and gas revenues.
Biden has been obsessed with the idea of reaching a nuclear deal with the mullahs and the Europeans, for their part, have waged a twenty-year campaign to protect Iran and its nuclear program.
And Iran means Turkey and Qatar and Muslim Brotherhood. Daniel Greenfield is right when he explains that Islam is the only winner in this European tragedy.
The Intercept tells how Ukraine has become a “magnet for Jihad.” Chechens against Chechens. “In the West, most view the war in Ukraine simply as a battle between the Russian-backed separatists and the Ukrainian government. But the truth on the ground is now much more complex, particularly when it comes to the volunteer battalions fighting on the side of Ukraine. The ‘Dudayev battalion’ is named after the first president of Chechnya, Dzhokhar Dudayev, and was founded by Isa Munayev, a Chechen commander who fought in two wars against Russia”. Crisis Group explains that over the past thirty years Ukraine has become a refuge for many Islamic fighters from Dagestan, where there was a failed insurrection against Russia.
The American neo-conservative Michael Rubin writes that, in the event of the collapse of Russia, “not only Ukraine and Belarus would be free, but also Chechnya, Dagestan, Karelia, Tartarstan and Tuva”. There are those who predict the birth in Europe of 3-4 new Islamic states.
Already Mikhail Lermontov described his “Hero of our time” as a tormented officer looking for himself in the adventurous life of the Caucasian garrison, grappling with the unnamed “hairy devils” of Chechnya. And something of this myth is found in “Chadzi-Murat”, the indomitable mountaineer with a childlike gaze that Lev Tolstoy elevated to the protagonist of the homonymous story, between an obligatory russophilia and an intimate aversion of the Caucasian mountaineers for what is Slavic. “Better to die fighting with the Russians than to live with the infidels”, we read in the novel by Tolstoy. And it is no coincidence that Tolstoy never published his Chechen novel and kept it well hidden in his drawers, as if to exorcise a nightmare.
It is also said that China, an ally of Russia for now, is the great winner of this frightening European explosion. Emmanuel Lincot, author of “Chine et Terres d’islam: un millénaire de géopolitique”, in Le Figaro recounts the convergence between China and the Islamic world in an anti-Western key. China, Pakistan and Turkey … And now there is also the entry of Afghanistan into the Chinese axis, after it has freed itself from Western influence and returned to the Taliban.
“The Islamic Ummah benefits in all circumstances”, explains the analyst Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi, who translated a text by a famous Egyptian religious figure who went to fight in Syria, Abu Shu’aib al-Masri: “The Ummah Islam benefited from the Second World War, as the armies of the western states left most of the lands of the Islamic world. The Islamic Ummah benefited from the Cold War between East and West, as it expelled the Soviet Union from a number of Islamic countries. The Islamic Ummah benefited from the weakness of Joe Biden, since all of Afghanistan was liberated and from the stupidity of Emmanuel Macron, while the Muslims of Mali mobilized against the French presence which announced the withdrawal from Mali”.
Nationalism is only a decrepit facade for the huge tragedy in which Ukrainian and Russian boys are dying in a useless war and whose only and final winners will be the Ummah that is going to demographically replace the Europeans.
Many hope to draw some immediate benefit from this latest bloody chapter in the agony of European civilization. For the Americans, it’s Putin fall, while for Putin, it’s Ukraine out of Nato forever. But in the long run, if this continues, Europe is doomed.
Austrian chancellor suddenly backtracks after dismissing neutrality
Military convoys rolled through Vienna on Sunday and Monday. An army spokesman explained that the transport involved 13 French military vehicles. These are on their way to Hungary.
Associations of military vehicles were also repeatedly sighted in Upper Austria, as reported by Austrians on social media. The army spokesman denied reports in German newspapers that Austrian airspace was closed to NATO. That was a faulty report since the airspace is only closed to Russian aircraft. But Austria is neutral and not a member of NATO.
NATO does not have to send a request to Austria for overflights, because NATO is not at war, the argument goes. However, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has flip-flopped on this important issue. He suddenly backtracked and announced on Twitter that this was not up for debate after he had dismissed any notions of neutrality. The country’s top politician is not to be trusted, many complained on social media.
As reported by a daily newspaper, a column of heavily armored military vehicles was sighted as early as Sunday evening. A Viennese inhabitant observed this in Ober St. Veit (Penzing): “The column drove in at the western entrance in the direction of the inner city.” At the head of the convoy, was a VW Golf of the Austrian army.
Another eyewitness discovered another military convoy in the 14th district of Vienna on a morning commute to work on Monday. She filmed the military transport on Linke Wienzeile near Schönbrunn with her smartphone.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, Colonel Michael Bauer, commented on the military convoy that rolled through Vienna on Sunday: “These were 13 vehicles of the French military that were on their way to Hungary.” There’s no need to worry, he said. “Most of the time, such transports travel through Austria by rail. But this is nothing unusual and happens again and again,” said Colonel Bauer.
The “elite” unit from France consisted of around 500 soldiers from the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), a NATO spearhead with a total of 20 000 soldiers. They can be operational worldwide within seven days.
According to Colonel Bauer, Austrian airspace was closed only to Russian aircraft due to the war in Ukraine. In doing so, he denied German press reports that Austria had also closed its airspace to NATO. That was, according to Bauer, a mistake.
According to information from Business Insider, Austria is said to have not only blocked the airspace for Russia, but also for NATO. As a result, flights had to be diverted via Italy, which is a clear detour.
No permit is required for NATO overflights over Austria however and therefore Austria has only blocked its airspace for Russian aircraft, according to the colonel. “Everyone else can fly over Austrian airspace,” said Bauer, except Russia. NATO does not have to send a separate request to Austria because the western alliance is not at war.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noticed that Austrian neutrality was being breached and said that this would be taken into account in the future. Perhaps that was the reason for Nehammer’s sudden clarification on Twitter. He quickly distanced himself from his own statement and reiterated the importance of neutrality.
Nehammer had previously flouted the position that Austrians cherish so much with the words: “Austria will not hide behind its neutrality.” But he made this decision without consulting Austrians, as a recent survey showed. In a defense policy survey conducted in Austria from February to March 2022, 78 percent of those surveyed were of the opinion that Austria should continue to maintain its neutrality, even against the background of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Only 14 percent were in favor of joining NATO.
Why can the Hungarian-bashing media elite not see the distinction between Ukrainian refugees and economic migrants?
A striking article from Marcel Leubecher in Germany’s Die Welt magazine corrected the vast majority of Germany’s mainstream media the other day, who appear to be astonished by the level of assistance Hungary and Poland are offering Ukrainian refugees.
In it, Leubecher states that the German press does not seem to recognize the difference between protecting refugees from a neighboring country and immigrating from other continents through the asylum system.
Indeed, this distinct lack of recognition is prevalent in the plethora of articles in liberal-leaning publications which note with confusion why Hungary, a nation that has remained vehemently opposed to the EU’s resettlement quota and tirelessly campaigns for greater external borders, is now choosing to offer such assistance to refugees from Ukraine.
After all, in the minds of the liberal commentariat, the conservative-led administrations in Hungary and Poland are downright racist, right? And thus, do not want to receive migrants from distant parts of the world in the same way.
The explanation as to why Hungary is offering the level of support it is currently is staring the liberal elite in the face, but let’s spell it out for them; Hungary is one of the first safe countries for those fleeing Ukraine during the war.
In the same way that neighboring Lebanon catered for millions of Syrian refugees, Hungary has a duty to help Ukraine, and it shall do so, irrespective of whether those arriving at the Hungarian border are Ukrainian, or are indeed African or Indian students who had been resident at one of the Ukrainian universities: Hungary will help everyone.
The situation in Ukraine differs entirely from the wave of migrants that has besieged Hungary’s southern border for years now, and here’s why. In the case of conflict in the Middle East, those genuinely seeking refuge have passed through countless safe countries by the time they reach the Hungarian border, bypassing a number of countries which have a far greater obligation to offer refuge, and it should be noted, are far more culturally aligned with the values of the prospective asylum seekers.
It is also important to mention that many of those arriving at Hungary’s frontier during the migration crisis of previous years have not been fleeing war or armed conflict, but have been economic migrants in search of a better life and better prospects. They typically head for Western or Northern Europe, as they know the welfare network there is aid-based.
On a human level, one can understand this, especially considering how many people set off after being deceived with false promises by unscrupulous human traffickers.
But understanding aside, they are certainly not entitled to asylum, and it is in the fundamental security interest of every country not to become a gateway. Countless examples in recent years have demonstrated the dangers of not recognizing this.
All of this is interesting because it is an instructive example of how the Western liberal elite still relates to Hungary and Poland. Let’s not have any illusions! Like the pandemic, the oppression of conservative-led member states will not be forgotten during the war.

Germans have witnessed the movement of military assets
Due to the current security situation, military shipments have been occurring in Germany for several days. “We cannot say what is being moved where at the moment. We do not give any information about it, explains a spokesman for the Bundeswehr. Sightings of military transports on rail or road were filmed by witnesses in Giessen, Mannheim, Zwickau, on the A4 and A6. (Video)
