The youth spokesman for the French Communists’ presidential candidate deplores “the constant mix-up that is made between Islamism and terrorism”

The coverage by Zone Interdite is causing some frowning. This is at least true for the youth spokesperson of the La France Insoumise (LFI) party, David Guiraud. He was a guest on the Calvi 3D programme on BFMTV on Monday January 24. He sat opposite the director of the documentary Michaëlle Gagnet and the presenter Yves Calvi, among others. As a reminder, M6 aired a report entitled “Face au danger de l’Islam radical, les réponses de l’Etat” (Faced with the danger of radical Islam, the state’s responses) on Sunday January 23. Zone Interdite focused on several French cities such as Marseille, Trappes or Roubaix.

The television images about the city in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region have attracted a lot of attention. Some parts of the city are said to be dominated by radical Islam. For example, the programme shows “faceless dolls” sold in toy shops in Roubaix “to respect an ultra-radical version of Islam that forbids the representation of human beings”. Or a first primary school class where boys and (veiled) girls are taught separately. And even a restaurant where women can eat undisturbed without wearing the veil.

For David Guiraud, this reportage would be “an attack to destroy the reputation of a whole city” and one would be “building an anti-Muslim field of conflict”. The member of the radical left party “came” to BFMTV “to say how much your reportage (addressed to Michaëlle Gagnet, editor’s note) harms the people of Roubaix”. He also denounced “non-honest (journalistic) methods”. Before making it very clear on stage: “There is a constant mix-up that is made between Islamism and terrorism.”

A statement to which he was immediately challenged by moderator Yves Calvi: “There are no links between Islamism and terrorism?” David Guiraud preferred to respond with a counter question: “How many terrorists or terrorist networks have been uncovered by this documentary? None.” An answer that could be perceived as vague and missing the point. Zone Interdite was in fact researching a growing communitarianism and radical Islam in the city of Roubaix, not terrorism. “With a lot of cleverness, you are making this documentary appear to be something it is not,” Yves Calvi finally denounced on BFMTV.

France: Guillaume Delbar, mayor of Roubaix, paid 80,000 euros in 2020 to an Islamist association…

“This association is remarkable, they gave tutoring, that’s very good, they gave Quranic courses, what’s the problem? Koranic courses are not jihad”.

The mayor of Roubaix was already under indictment and in trouble, trouble that should bring him to trial on February 1 for the misuse of funds, but he received the coup de grace after the broadcast of Zone Interdite last Sunday with testimonies from parents of the Quranic school “Ambitions et Initiatives pour la réussite” and especially from Amine Elbahi, who has since been threatened with beheading…

Guillaume Delbar, UMP, LR and then DVD, mayor of Roubaix, regional councillor of the Hauts-de-France region… had treated the first accusations made against him with scorn.

But for his part, the mayor pretends not to see the problem. In an interview on June 26, 2021, broadcast last Sunday evening on the programme “Zone Interdite”, Guillaume Delbar vigorously defended the association, believing he was not being taped doing so. “I have visited this association fifteen times, they do a remarkable job in tutoring, I have not seen the hint of proselytising”. When asked about a possible mixing of genres within the institution, he replied: “The director told me that this is not the case, so (…) I am waiting for proof (…) Quranic courses do not mean jihad and so on”, he affirmed.

So not only was the association housed in state premises paid for by the taxpayer, but it was also giving Arabic lessons, which apparently allowed the association to boast about placing children in a Quranic school….

“We are not doing ( Quranic lessons, editor’s note) this year because we are being monitored by the state,” said one teacher. “They have been teaching the Quran, religion, prayers and so on. The headmistress told me: ‘We are waiting for this to calm down because we are afraid that they will close us down’,” added a mother in the clip broadcast on Sunday evening.

The mayor had no way of not knowing… He is playing dumb to avoid too severe a punishment, but it is obvious that he knew, since he confessed by putting it in perspective. As if this dhimmi could not know that the madrassa all too often leads to jihad … and that its heads knew perfectly well that they had no right to do so, since they lied and told the parents to keep quiet.

The incidents are almost two years ago, which did not stop the mayor from paying the association 80,000 euros in 2020!!!! Maybe a connection with the local elections?

These incriminating facts point towards the indications already sent to the Prefecture of the Department of the North about the association in the summer of 2020, which indicated that it was carrying out proselytising activities. After an administrative investigation, the prefecture concluded that “public money had been used to finance activities that did not respect the values of the Republic and secularism”. However, these conclusions, which were known to Guillaume Delbar three months before he spoke to the journalists of “Zone Interdite”, left him unmoved.

The prefecture of the Nord department declared on January 23 that, after receiving the results of the inspection, it had suspended the state subsidies for the association on March 1, 2021, demanded the repayment of the payments already made and filed a complaint with the Lille public prosecutor’s office.

Guillaume Delbar doesn’t seem to have many pangs of conscience… Let’s hope he gets elected. And since Roubaix, like many other northern cities, is being consumed by communitarianism and is well on the way to becoming a lost territory of the Republic… Yes, the globalists did away with all the textile factories and gave them to the Chinese. Then there was no more work, the workers became unemployed, pensioners… and the immigrants came and annexed the city….

Guillaume Delbar has had a good start. A former close confidant of Seguin, he had run his first municipal campaign on security… but things have deteriorated since he had moved closer to the Islamophile/dhimmi Xavier Bertrand in the regional elections, then became Juppé’s supporter, who awarded the Muslim Brother Tarik Oubrou the Legion of Honour…

Europe flirts with the Taliban – Why would a European country want to hold a conference on women’s rights with the Taliban? Why indeed?

by Giulio Meotti‏

Iranian activist: “Taliban delegation visiting Norway to discuss women’s rights in Afghanistan. To Western politics and global feminists: if you don’t unite against the Taliban and the Islamic Republic, they will unite against you in the West. They will infect the whole world ”.

This is the comment of the famous Iranian activist Masih Alinejad on the news that a Taliban delegation has just arrived in Oslo.

Bassam Tibi, the leading German Islamologist, predicted this in October in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung: “All the signs indicate that the West is establishing a policy of pacification towards the Taliban”.

And where to bring about pacification if not in Norway, whose embassy in Kabul in September was occupied by Islamic fanatics who destroyed wine bottles and children’s books and where the most famous Norwegian cartoonist, Finn Graff, was censored for a cartoon about Mohammed (he had never had a problem with making fun of Christians and Jews)?

The meeting in Oslo was organized by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. The Norwegian newspaper VGexplains that the European Union, France, Germany and Italy will participate in the conference.

“Stressing that Norway would be ‘clear about our expectations’, in particular about’ girls’ education and human rights, ‘Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt said the meetings’ would not represent legitimation or recognition of the Taliban’. Ah, Scandinavia ”.

The above is the comment of Hillel Neuer, head of UN Watch.

Ah, the famous Scandinavian countries pioneers of gender equality… Swedish Minister of Commerce, Ann Linde, and ten other female members of the Swedish government paraded in front of Iranian President Hassan Rohani wearing hijabs, chadors and long coats.

And so, while from Afghanistan, to stay for the last 72 hours, news arrives of women being taken away from their homes, of women killed on their way back from marriage and of women threatened to go underground if they do not wear the burqa, the European countries think it is a good idea to call the executioners to themselves to talk about… women’s rights.

The grotesque paradox is that less than six months ago the West fled Afghanistan leaving that country at the mercy of Islamic fanatics, and now a European country hosts the same fanatics. In Afghanistan women are now protesting against the West.

On Saturday, women in Bamyan protested against the Oslo summit. “The Taliban have taken away food, freedom, work and education from us,” said Muhadesa, a woman who demonstrated in Bamyan. “Why would a European country want to hold a conference and invite this group?”.

Why, indeed?

Because the Munich spirit of surrender to Islam flows through the veins of Europe.

‘The vaccinated end up more infected than the unvaccinated’

Maligned French epidemiologist Didier Raoult expressed grave doubts about the current vaccination campaign.

“Why is Omikron vaccine resistant?” Prof Didier Raoult recently asked himself this question. The director of the IHU Méditerranée infectious disease institute in Marseille has doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccines. Referring to data from the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 dashboard, Raoult examined the outcome of the global Corona campaign.

“We have administered nearly 10 billion doses of the Covid-19 vaccine worldwide and there are more cases than ever before. So the explanation that the Covid-19 vaccine controls the disease has become a bit complicated. By the way, we have the same problem in France. We don’t stop vaccinating and there are more and more cases,” he pointed out.

“Everyone says Israel is the best example in the world for Covid-19 vaccination. In Israel they are now on the fourth Covid-19 vaccination; the country has reached a peak. They’ve never had so many cases […] You can’t say there’s a spectacular effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccination.”

Raoult draws attention to the fact that there has been a “dramatic increase in cases, despite the fact that the French have been vaccinated in an exceptional way”. Raoult added: “As far as the strategy to introduce vaccination against Covid-19 is concerned, the government can be satisfied: there has been a lot of vaccination. But the result in terms of the epidemic is not convincing.”

More so, because “the vaccinated end up more infected than the unvaccinated. There is something going on that is not very convincing,” Raoult said, referring to official health data.

According to Robert F Kennedy, the vaccinated have a 500 percent increased chance of dying from a heart attack over six months.

Antifa should decide which publishers are allowed at popular book fair, demands famed German left-wing activist

German sociologist, anti-racism activist, and former Green Party politician Jutta Ditfurth has called for right-wing publishers to be removed from the biggest annual book fair in Germany by Antifa, according to a new interview with Frankfurter Rundschau on Monday.

“The [Frankfiurt] book fair should inform the public at an early stage which publishers are in the registration process. It would be enough to evaluate right-wing publishing programs in their mainline. You don’t have to read every single book,” she said.

She believes that Historians, scientists, and “experienced anti-fascists” could quickly take stock of this type of situation. The “White privileged” part of society would allegedly not understand the experiences that people of color go through on a day-to-day basis, she said.

The Jungeeuropa publishing house features a variety of voices, including libertarians, conservatives, and members of the New Right. Authors include Mária Schmidt. Alain de Benoist, Michel Onfray, and Derek Turner.

However, Ditfurth believes a range of viewpoints should be excluded over political correctness.

“Yes, the entire book fair should be a safe space for BPoC (Black and other People of Color), people with kippahs, or other possible victims of Nazis. The book fair can only be such a place if racist, folkish, anti-Semitic publishers are kept out,” she explained.

“A stand like that of Jungeuropa is always an organizational docking point for other Nazis, who then move through the fair together and are a danger,” Ditfurth claimed.

Ditfurth has long been active in German left-wing politics, and has been a radical environmental activist since the 1970s. Although she said she rejected armed struggle, she advocated property damage as a protest measure. She also called for an amnesty against the Red Army Faction terrorist group, which was responsible for a number of high-level murders and bombings in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Frankfurt Cultural Committee has held a debate on the subject on Friday. At the meeting, city councilor Thomas Bäppler-Wolf (SPD) called for right-wing publishers to be excluded from the book fair.

“Put the right-wing publishers where they belong, in the last hall, next to the toilet,” he demanded.

The presence of the right-wing Jungeuropa publishing house at the book fair last year sparked a lot of discussions. At the time, author Jasmina Kuhnke refused to appear at a panel discussion near the publisher’s stand.

When presenting the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade to the Zimbabwean writer Tsitsi Dangarembga, the Greens city councilor Mirrianne Mahn criticized what she felt was a lack of solidarity with Kuhnke.

“The paradox is that here in the Paulskirche — the cradle of democracy — we give the Peace Prize to a Black woman, but Black women were not welcome at the book fair,” she said.

Klaus Schwab welcomes European chip law to advance ‘physical brain for digitization’

The EU will unveil proposals early next month for new laws to boost its home-grown chip production, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen announced in an online speech to the virtual edition of the World Economic Forum. The law is actually a cover for a clique of corrupt globalists to take over total control.

Von der Leyen wants to claim a greater role for the EU in the worldwide production of microchips. The most advanced chips must be made on European soil, according to her. The legislation that should make all this possible is called the European Chips Act.

The act, which will be proposed in early February, aims to increase microchip production to reduce dependency on suppliers from outside Europe. “The European need for chips will double in the next decade,” von der Leyen explained. WEF boss Klaus Schwab is deeply involved in this endeavour. Schwab is one of 16 individuals who has been charged with serious human rights abuses and genocide in the ICC.

Deep digital transformation

The President of the European Commission spoke with Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum. He was particularly interested in the chip law, “because this is an important step towards creating the physical brain for digitization”.

Europe already has a plan to implement a “deep digital transformation” by 2030. According to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd, research center Imec will play a key role in the European chip strategy. It makes prototypes of the smallest chips, two nanometers or smaller.

Imec performs advanced research on artificial intelligence and was awarded $750 000 twice in 2019 by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in a machine-learning competition.

In a 2017 report, The Financial Times named Imec’s self-learning neuromorphic chip one of the fifty ideas that would change the world and was described by the newspaper as having the potential to revolutionize computing.

In 2018, Imec announced the creation of a research venture to decode dementia by creating human-specific living brain models, so called “brains-on-chips” which automate and miniaturize human stem cell manipulations. It has developed technology to generate programmable, instrumented 3D brain models with single-cell precision. The project was supported by a Collaborative Science Award of one million dollars by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

In 2016 already, Schwab had announced in an interview with Switzerland’s French-speaking public broadcaster that “wearable technology” would be implanted in our brains or under our skin.

Human augmentation will be controlled by a few psychopaths

In a report titled “Human Augmentation – The Dawn of a New Paradigm. A strategic implications project”, published jointly by the UK Ministry of Defense, and German Federal Ministry of Defense in 2021, the notion of human augmentation for warfare is considered a fait accompli by the authors.

“We can assume that although this report is coming from the UK Ministry of Defense, and German Federal Ministry of Defense, parallel efforts are being made by most large governments around the world,” mRNA inventor dr Robert Malone warned.

“Future wars will be won, not by those with the most advanced technology, but by those who can most effectively integrate the unique capabilities of both people and machines,” according to the report. The ethics of human augmentation is therefore viewed as an impediment by the likes of the WEF and the military-industrial complex. In fact, in the document, it is explicitly stated:

“The future of human augmentation should not, however, be decided by ethicists or public opinion, although both will be important voices; rather, governments will need to develop a clear policy position that maximises the use of human augmentation in support of prosperity, safety and security, without undermining our values.”

It is clear that human augmentation has become the next model for warfare. According to the report, “brain interfaces linked to machine learning algorithms have the potential to rapidly accelerate the speed and quality of decision-making”. But to what end?

“Human augmentation will play a key role in reducing the risk of cognitive overload as warfare becomes faster, more complex and more congested. Bioinformatics are likely to play a key role in identifying commanders and staff with the right cognitive and adaptive potential for command and control roles.”

One cultist-like caption from the report is particularly chilling: “Six million years of evolution to where we are today and now we have the tools in our hands to decide how our continued evolution should be shaped.”

Warfare is the excuse used to advance the notion of human augmentation. What it really means is that unelected human overlords will be able to control our evolution via genetic engineering.

“The arrogance and hubris in this point of view is enormous. That in one or two generations, the military industrial complex will pivot to controlling human evolution via genetic engineering and human augmentation is not only naive, ethically corrupt but fundamentally dangerous,” Malone pointed out.

Crisis in Ukraine could be used as a pretext for a digital ID

“What will probably happen is that there will be a ‘cyber-attack’ or a ‘cyber-pandemic’ for which Russia will then be blamed as if it is part of the strategy towards Ukraine,” Dutch politician Thierry Baudet explained. “Because of that ‘cyber-attack’ or ‘cyber-pandemic’ we are going to lose our access to the internet. We will only get it back with an ‘internet passport’.”

He added: “So I think they are going to use exactly the same trick in the digital world as they have been doing for the past two years in the physical world: Firstly, taking away access under a false pretext and then returning it ‘safely and securely’ with a passport.” In the physical world, Corona was used as an excuse, while in the digital world it is going to be staged “cyberattacks”.

“Fully integrated digital ID then becomes a fact. And the Great Reset will have advanced one step further,” said Baudet.

‘Pope Francis’ – A Wolf in Shepherd’s Clothing?

“A non-Catholic Pope”?  It sounds like a contradiction in terms.  But those are the words used to describe Pope Francis by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.  In fact, he rarely uses the term “Pope Francis.”  He refers to him instead as “Bergoglio” and to his pontificate as the “Bergoglian papacy.”

Vigano has a following in some Catholic circles but it’s likely that the vast majority of Catholics have never heard of him.  Yet the questions he raises about Pope Francis are of great consequence, not just for Catholics but for non-Catholics as well.

Since there are about 1.3 billion Catholics in the world, whoever leads them can have a significant effect on a large segment of the global population.  It’s widely thought, for instance, that Pope John Paul II did more to put an end to communism in Eastern Europe than any other individual with the exception of Ronald Reagan.  For evidence of the close collaboration between the two men, read historian Paul Kengor’s revealing book, A Pope and a President.

Now we have a new pope and a new president and neither of them seem terribly concerned about the revival of communist power throughout the world.  In fact, both men have surrounded themselves with left-leaning advisors and appointees.

In addition, both Francis and Biden have effectively rolled back the agendas of their immediate predecessors.  This is obvious in the case of Biden because the reversal has been swift and abrupt.  The reversal that Francis has engineered is less noticeable since it has been more gradual, but the resulting change in the Catholic Church has been every bit as radical as the one now taking place in American government and society.

Archbishop Vigano links the two together.  He talks of a coup in America and other Western nations led by secular leftist ideologues, and a coup in the Catholic Church led by Bergoglio and the progressive Catholics who surround him.

However, the coup in the Church has been a more silent one.  Catholic writers who have studied Francis’s career describe him as a skillful–even Machiavellian–manipulator.  According to them, all his actions are shrouded in a deliberate fog.  Consequently, most Catholics remain unaware of the magnitude of the changes.  It is only when a priest or prelate resists Francis that “the dictator pope” (the title of Henry Sire’s book about Francis) reveals himself. Just as the Biden administration is seeking to purge conservatives from government and the military, Francis seeks to purge traditional Catholics from the Church.  And since some of the strongest resistance to Francis comes from adherents of the Latin Mass, he has acted to suppress the Latin Mass.  Meanwhile, some conservative prelates find themselves demoted to obscure outposts, and others live in fear that false charges of sex abuse could land them in jail (as happened to Australian Cardinal George Pell).

Moreover, since Francis has been promoting progressive prelates to high posts for nine years, it looks likely that his “anti-Catholic” (Vigano’s term) brand of Catholicism will continue to dominate.  Because Francis has carefully packed the College of Cardinals (who elect the next pope) with men made in his own image, we shouldn’t be surprised if the next Pope takes the name, Pope Francis II.

You’ve heard of the “deep state;” Vigano maintains that there is also a “deep church”—a network of progressive prelates who, together with Francis, plan to change the face of the Church beyond recognition.  Moreover, the deep state and the deep church reinforce each other:

The deep church and deep state are nothing other than two parallel tracks which run in the same direction and have as their final destination the New World Order, with its religion and its prophet.

Vigano points out that although Francis is “universally considered as the head of the Church,” he is at the same time a “liquidator” of the Church:

His dual role as pope and liquidator of the Catholic Church allows him on the one hand to demolish it with decrees and acts of governance, and on the other hand to use the prestige that his office entails to establish and spread the new religion over the rubble of the old one.

The “new religion” which Francis hopes to usher in is, according to Vigano, a humanist and progressive one— “the religion of Mankind, an ecumenical and ecological one.”  This new religion will also result in “the legitimization of Evil,” and the persecution of good people.”

If all of this—this notion of a non-Catholic pope who seeks to liquidate the Church—seems outlandish and inconceivable, consider that only a short time ago, the notion of a communist-ruled USA also seemed inconceivable.  It seemed inconceivable that Americans would elect as president a man who would immediately set about to demolish American history, values, and institutions.  But that is what seem to be happening.

As far as I know, Vigano has never actually said that Francis is not the pope, but he has implied as much.  The evidence that he and others present can be divided into four categories:

  1. Evidence that Pope Benedict’s resignation was invalid
  2. Evidence that the election of Francis was rigged
  3. Evidenced of widespread corruption in the Francis papacy.
  4. Evidence that Francis embraces heresy.

Whether or not Vigano makes the case is a subject for another time.  The point I want make here is that, despite the gravity of the charges against Francis, the response has been muted.  Neither Francis nor the Vatican has ever responded to Vigano’s explosive “testimony” in 2018 accusing Francis and other prelates of covering up Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s long history of sex abuse.  Francis said that he would trust the media to come to the proper conclusion; and the media obliged by ignoring Vigano’s charges altogether.

Likewise, the Francis-friendly media has had little to say about Vigano’s claim that Francis is not a legitimate pope.  As a result, the average Catholic is unaware that there is a problem.  Most Catholics would be surprised to learn that although Francis has frequently promised to put an end to clerical sex-abuse, he surrounds himself with abusers and enablers and promotes them to high office.  Likewise, most Catholics would be surprised to discover that although Francis verbally condemns abortion, he sees to it that prominent advocates of abortion are invited to Vatican conferences, and he sometimes showers them with praise.

Moreover, although he states that abortion is murder, he intervened to prevent the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) from voting to deny communion to President Biden because of Biden’s flagrant pro-abortion policy. According to Vigano, Francis is a master of duplicity whose modus operandi is to say one thing to please the pew-sitters, and to do the opposite in order to please the worldly elites.

It should be noted that Vigano has recently been a bit more in the public eye because of two letters he wrote to Donald Trump, and because of Trump’s positive response to them. As a result, some in the liberal Catholic press have mounted a vigorous campaign to discredit him.  For example, the Jesuit-run magazine America dismisses him as just another right-wing conspiracy theorist who ought to be wearing a MAGA hat instead of a bishop’s cap.

The foundation for the conspiracy-theorist charge is that Vigano says what a growing number of Americans believe about a deep state increasingly controlled by global elites intent on reducing average people to the status of worker bees.  He speaks disparagingly of the New World Order, and the machinations of the Rockefeller Foundation, The World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, and Bill Gates.  Furthermore, in contrast to Francis, he sees the Covid pandemic as an invented crisis which is intended to create a more docile population.  Finally, Vigano often talks in apocalyptic terms.  He speaks of death and judgement, heaven and hell, Satan’s war against heaven, the Second Coming of Christ, and the “Mark of the Beast.” To the modern ear and to many modern Christians such talk is embarrassing, but through the ages most Christians have regarded such signs and prophesies not as the ravings of extremists, but as the revealed word of God.

Vigano has a good grip on science, finance, and politics, yet he does sometimes sound more like a 19th century pope than a 21st century prelate. This is actually quite refreshing because many modern clergymen have learned to talk in a corporate-therapeutic lingo that is devoid of any depth.  Take this tweet sent out by the USCCB to prepare Catholics for the upcoming “Synod on Synodality:”

Here are seven attitudes we can all adopt as we continue our synodal journey together.  Which one inspires you the most?

  • Innovative Outlook
  • Inclusivity
  • Open-mindedness
  • Listening
  • Accompaniment
  • Co-responsibility
  • Dialogue

“Which one inspires you the most?”  But these psychobabble buzzwords aren’t meant to inspire, they’re meant to put to sleep—to distract people from the crucial issues that face the Church today such as the issue of “a pope who does not behave like a pope and does not speak like a pope.”

Vigano wants to wake up the sheep and so it seems quite fitting that he uses the strong language of the Bible to arouse people from their slumber.  While other bishops babble on about “inclusivity,” “dialogue,” and “open-mindedness,” it’s somehow reassuring that at least one bishop points to the very disturbing signs of the time.

It’s easy enough to dismiss Vigano as a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but let’s not forget that the Bible contains many admonitions to be alert to the signs of the time, and many warnings about “spiritual” leaders who are not what they seem. One of the warnings goes like this:

Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. Mt. 7: 15.

Of course, it’s not easy to discern a false prophet when he is dressed in sheep’s clothing.  It would be more difficult still if he were dressed as a shepherd.

Following the broadcast of a television programme about the Islamisation of France, one of the witnesses in the programme is threatened with beheading

He dared to testify and is already paying the price. Public law lawyer Amine Elbahi was featured in Zone Interdite’s latest report entitled “Face au danger de l’Islam radical, les réponses de l’État” (Faced with the danger of radical Islam, the state’s responses). The programme Zone Interdite, broadcast on M6 on Sunday 23 January, focused on the city of Roubaix (northern France) where “a small radicalised minority rejects the laws of the Republic”. In it, Amine Elbahi denounces a growing communitarianism that could well tip towards fundamentalism. The day after the documentary was broadcast, the 25-year-old lawyer, who grew up in Roubaix, was a guest on BFMTV. He stated that he had been threatened with death.

“My phone number was circulating on social media”, he explained, and went on to say that “several calls for my murder were spread”. Amine Elbahi continued to journalists Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot: “I’m threatened with beheading, with having my throat slit, with attacks on me for speaking the truth face to face, and especially about the inaction of the mayor of my municipality.” On CNews, he also reported on Morandini Live the same day that he was “accused of publicly denouncing the mayor of Roubaix and the excesses of radical Islamists”. He added: “Between the filming date of the programme in 2020 and the broadcast date yesterday, I was the subject of several complaints from the mayor of Roubaix and his entourage for defamation.” Complaints that “were stopped without consequence”, he assures. Amine Elbahi complained that they wanted to “silence him” and that they had been “sweeping the dirt under the carpet for 30 years”, which had led to “this disastrous situation”.

Despite the threats, however, this did not stop him from referring to “Salafists who call to segregate themselves from society and not to vote” and denouncing the “import of a political Islam that influences political decisions through associations and movements”. “This radical Islam has established itself because of the inaction of a number of elected representatives,” he said on BFMTV. Before concluding: “Almost all Muslims in this country respect the values of the republic and love this country.”

In a film sequence for Zone Interdite, the young man from Roubaix at the wheel of his car showed Rue de Lannoy. It is “one of the biggest streets because it leads to the city centre”, as Amine Elbahi reports. In this street there are “five, six halal butcher shops”, an oriental spa, “Islamic bookshops”, but also ready-to-wear shops where “the full-body veil, the niqab, is sold”. His conclusion is alarming: “It is an invitation to segregate oneself from the national community and to join a more rigorous practice of Islam.”

Europe is blind to the next jihadi threat

Europe is blind to the next jihadi threat – UnHerd

The more urgent concern, however, should be on Europe, and how the jihadist movement reconstitutes itself inside the continents borders after the Islamic State. The principal concern for security services has been the threat posed by Isis returnees, and with good reason. There is nothing new about Europeans travelling to jihadist conflict zones, but more travelled to Syria and Iraq for jihad than every previous jihadist insurgency combined. Not all made it home, but many did or will in future.

Available evidence does suggest that only a minority of foreign fighter returnees attack at home, but this should not necessarily be a cause for complacency. The statistics alone do not account for the constant ideological transformation and evolution of militant Islamism in the West: when commuters were murdered in London in 2005, or when Mohammed Merah executed Jewish schoolchildren and soldiers in France in 2012, these acts sparked internal debates on legitimacy within salafi-jihadist circles. Today, thanks to the work of salafi-jihadist scholars, there would be no such debate.

Nor do low rates of attack tell the whole story of the impact of returnees. Each generation of returnees from conflict overseas has successfully helped to cultivate a new and larger generation of extremists. Isis hotspots in Europe often directly overlap with recruitment hotspots for jihadist insurgencies from decades ago. If the Isis generation is able to socialise a new, more violent, more extreme generation of salafi-jihadists then it may be years, or even decades, until we feel the full force of the most recent returnee wave.
