The Algerian imam Saber Lahmar, who was detained in Guantanamo for eight years, then acquitted and admitted to France in 2009 thanks to Sarkozy’s initiative, was sentenced to ten years in prison for calling for jihad

After a long stay in Guantanamo, “Cheik” Lahmar was acquitted of all charges in 2009 and admitted to France. He had subsequently incited several people to join the jihad, including a man who died in combat at the end of 2015.

Algerian Saber Lahmar, who went on trial in Paris in May for allegedly inciting jihadi candidates to leave for Iraq or Syria, was sentenced to ten years in prison by the court on Friday. The judges, who followed the requests of the National Anti-terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat), also sentenced him to two-thirds security detention and a definitive ban on entering French territory.(…) Le Parisien
