Terror of November 13 in Paris: Salah Abdesslam proselytises in prison and Muslim converts already plan an Islamic marriage with him

I have been treated like a dog for six years and I say nothing! This provocation by Salah Abdeslam at the opening of the trial on the attacks of November 13 this Wednesday, September 8, did not please the families of the victims. However, his conditions of detention in Fleury-Mérogis prison (Essonne) are well known. Le Parisien was able to consult a note from the Directorate of Penitentiary Administration (DAP). According to this document, Salah Abdeslam lives under video surveillance twenty-four hours a day, has been almost completely isolated for almost six years and is systematically searched at the end of each visit before returning to his cell. In terms of religion, the report states that the young man “used his experiences in detention and even more in isolation to deepen his religious knowledge and would use media coverage of his case and the curiosity it aroused to influence and instruct his fellow detainees”.

Even more worrying, Le Parisien reported from January 2020 to January 2021 that the jihadist lived ” next door” to Fabrice Arbaoui, an extremely violent young man sentenced to three years in prison for attacking a security guard, and Mohamed Medjdoub, the alleged perpetrator of the attack that injured several people in downtown Lyon in May 2019. “Video surveillance revealed that Salah Abdeslam constantly used written notifications to give and receive these instructions, for which his interlocutors were particularly grateful,” the document says. Abdeslam “is still able to use his prominence to indoctrinate his fellow detainees, who are sometimes susceptible, and could lead them to take action. In short, the Franco-Moroccan “practices a highly ritualised form of religious practice in detention, which has been more sophisticated in the course of his imprisonment”.

However, the DAP report states that the young man is not as knowledgeable as he would have us believe and has many gaps in his religious knowledge. Prison officials note that the detainee has “a real lack of knowledge, numerous contradictions in doctrine, and an inability to converse in Arabic and sing jihadist songs…”

Salah Abdeslam, subjected to a drastic system of isolation, corresponds with “anonymous supporters” and “women, especially young converts, who have adopted a radical vision of Islam”. Two of them even gave him “financial and material support” and allegedly approached his family to organise a Muslim wedding with him.
