Syrian with 6 children commits 60 crimes: “I don’t know the laws in Germany”

He is alleged to have committed around 60 offences – a Syrian man has been on trial in Görlitz since yesterday. The accusations include assault and threatening behaviour, trespassing, drug possession, damage to property and disturbing the peace of the dead. The 36-year-old admitted some of the offences, denied many, and could not remember others.

Police officers had seized a bicycle from him because he could not show proof of ownership. He then wanted a new one. He stole a bicycle from the Görlitz police station. He admitted this. Afterwards he broke into the Görlitz professional fire brigade. He could no longer remember that. He had liked six silver spoons in a casket. He had taken them, but not stolen them, the father of six children defended himself. He had not beaten his wife.

When the judge asked him why he had ignored the ban on entering his flat in Görlitz, the accused replied that he had only wanted to get his things. He had needed them. And to protect himself, the Syrian explained: “I don’t know the laws in Germany”.

The trial is being continued.
