Switzerland: Convert to Islam wanted to slit ex’s throat to redeem herself

A 22-year-old Swiss woman converted to Islam for love. In a new relationship, however, the ex became her doom. The woman therefore tried to kill the Afghan and his mother. Now she is facing a 13-year prison sentence.

She wanted to kill her ex-boyfriend and his mother to “erase” her past. The case concerns a 22-year-old Swiss woman who converted to Islam. She is now on trial before the criminal court in Schwyz. The prosecutor is demanding 13 years in prison for the young woman.

At the age of 16, she fell in love with a Shiite Afghan. In order to marry her chosen one, the Christian converted to Islam, writes the newspaper “Bote der Urschweiz”.

Four years later, she travelled alone to Lebanon and fell in love again, this time with a Sunni Lebanese. Back in Switzerland, she separated from the Afghan, but the ex-relationship became more and more of a burden for the woman and her new partner. The sexual component even became a “disgrace”.

So the Swiss woman decided to kill her ex and his mother. With the honour killings, she was supposed to “redeem” herself. In September 2019, she visited the Afghan’s 65-year-old mother, hoping to encounter the man there. But as he was not at home, she went after the senior citizen. She pulled a thermos jug over her head, hit her with a pan and choked her. A neighbour who had been rushed to the scene was able to defend the 65-year-old.

A voice message from the woman to her Lebanese boyfriend was presented at the court. “I don’t love him, I swear I wanted to kill him, I wanted to kill his mother,” she said.

It did not remain with this attempted murder. In Benken in the canton of St Gallen, on February 6, 2020, she instructed a strange man to beat the Afghan unconscious so that she could then slit his throat. Shortly before the crime, however, the stranger backed out. The next day she hired someone again in Schwyz. She promised 500 dollars compensation. However, the police were there in time.

In court on Thursday, neither the woman nor the three co-defendants – a Syrian (20) and two minors at the time – commented on the incidents.

The prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of 13 years for the woman for attempted murder, attempted incitement to murder and criminal preparatory acts to murder. She is also to pay a contractual penalty and a fine of 100 francs for further offences. “She lost all inhibitions. She was convinced that her former boyfriend was a virus that had to be destroyed,” he said and pleaded for an inpatient measure.

For the 20-year-old Syrian, the prosecution demands a suspended sentence of eight months imprisonment and a five-year expulsion from the country. For the other two co-defendants, six months’ imprisonment suspended. The defence lawyers will have their say on Wednesday.
