Sweden: Rape of two girls earns Syrian minor 80,000 euros…

A Syrian who was granted asylum in Sweden in connection with the migrant chaos was sentenced in 2017 to prison in both the district court and the court of appeal for, among other things, kidnapping, rape, and extortion with weapons in Malmö. The man appealed the sentence in the Supreme Court (HD) because he claimed to have been a minor at the time of the crimes, which the courts did not believe. Despite the fact that previous instances have already dealt with the issue, HD granted rescission and claims that the migrant was only 16 years old at the time of the crime. The Chancellor of Justice (JK) therefore believes that the prison sentence has been too harsh for the Syrian, who is now granted SEK 840,000 (aprox. USD 100,000) in damages from Swedish taxpayers.

The Chancellor of Justice believes that Damir has been subjected to an excessive severe punishment given his age. JK finds that SEK 840,000 –USD 100,000– is a reasonable amount for the suffering.
