So far 21 murders of women in 2021 in Austria – almost every second perpetrator does not hold an Austrian passport

The double murder in Vienna’s Favoriten district is already the 20th and 21st murder of women in Austria this year. The suspected perpetrator is a 28-year-old Somali and he has confessed.

Explosive: Of the total of 17 suspected perpetrators, 47 percent are from abroad. Ten suspects grew up in Austria, otherwise three came from Afghanistan and one each from Serbia, Bosnia, Syria and Somalia. The Minister for Women and Integration, Susanne Raab ( Austrian People’s Party), was “appalled” by the brutality. One should not suppress the fact that a disproportionate number of perpetrators come from abroad.

According to police crime statistics, a total of 31 women were murdered in 2020. Mostly, the murderers were their (ex-)partners or family members. Before that, there was a peak of 41 murders of women in 2018. By comparison, 19 women were still murdered in 2014. In other words, the number of murders of women has doubled in this period. About three women are now murdered every month.
