On June 13, 2021, at around 12.45 p.m., the Neubrandenburg police control centre was alerted to a fire at the St. Jürgen Chapel in Wolgast. On the spot, the police forces found that the roof truss of the building was on fire. The fire brigades from Wolgast, Hohendorf, Kröslin, Zemitz and Lassan managed to extinguish the fire. Due to the extinguishing work, the street Breite Straße was completely cordoned off. No persons were injured. The chapel is surrounded by scaffolding due to construction work. Since it cannot be ruled out that the fire was caused by someone else, a charge of serious arson has been filed. The criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation. According to the current state of knowledge, the pastor in charge put the amount of damage at 350,000 euros.
