Opponents of compulsory vaccination manage to enter State Parliament in Austria

The vaccination opponents of the MFG are the surprise of the state elections in Upper Austria. They clearly won seats in the state parliament, while the NEOS still have to tremble. The ÖVP remains in the lead, the previous coalition partner FPÖ ahead of the SPÖ despite major losses.

It was an election overshadowed by Corona. More than one million Upper Austrians were called to the ballot. According to first projections, the ÖVP defended its first place in Sunday’s state election. With 36 to 37 per cent, however, it remained at its 2015 result.

In both projections, second place goes to the FPÖ (around 20 per cent) ahead of the SPÖ (18 to 19) and the Greens (11-12). The vaccination-sceptics MFG (“Menschen-Freiheit-Grundrechte” – People’s Freedom Fundamental Rights) will enter the state parliament with about seven per cent, the NEOS must tremble for entry, currently still below the decisive four-percent margin.
