Melilla: Spanish and Moroccan authorities push back 400 illegal sub-Saharans

An attempt to cross the fence with the Spanish enclave of Melilla was prevented on Friday by Spanish and Moroccan security forces, which managed to contain a group of 400 sub-Saharan migrants “despite the violence used” by individuals.

Early in the morning, Melilla was under “a lot of pressure on the border perimeter” according to a spokesman for the city, around 4:15 am. About 400 sub-Saharan migrants organized themselves and divided into three groups “to storm the fence at different points in the northern zone at the same time,” according to La Información.

The pronounced efforts of the “anti-intrusion device coordinated by the Guardia Civil, as well as the collaboration of the Moroccan security forces caused the entry to fail” because no irregular entry was observed. The migrants had been particularly violent according to the spokesperson who reported the throwing stones and other objects at the Guardia Civil. No agents were injured however.
