Islamist terror in Vienna: house searches in Germany

About eight months after the Islamist terrorist attack in Vienna that left four dead, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office had searched the flats of two suspected accomplices in Osnabrück and Kassel. The young men, who had been targeted by investigators shortly after the attack, were suspected of not reporting planned crimes, the authorities in Karlsruhe reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the investigators now have evidence that the two men, a Kosovar and a German, had known of the later assassin’s intentions since visiting him in July 2020. On the day of the attack, they had already started deleting their messages with the assassin on their mobile phones and social networks before the attack began. They are accused of not having informed the security authorities about the attack.

A follower of the terrorist organisation “Islamic State” (IS) had killed four people and injured more than 20 people, some of them seriously, in the Austrian capital on November 2, before he himself died from police gunfire.
