Eight days have passed since the Islamist attack in Würzburg. Eight days.
And the Chancellor is still silent.
Not a personal word so far about the three fatalities, the injured. And not a single word about the suspected attacker from Somalia who came to Germany in 2015.
This is shameful.
Angela Merkel’s silence gives the fatal impression that none of this concerns her. As if it were not noteworthy that an asylum seeker is abusing our right to hospitality in the worst possible way.
As head of government, Merkel has sworn to prevent harm among the German people. This also includes the fight against Islamism.
Austria’s Chancellor Kurz – at whom Merkel always looks somewhat condescendingly – showed how it’s done this week. After the murder of a 13-year-old girl by two Afghans, he showed deep compassion – and announced harsh consequences.
Merkel owes our country exactly that.
