Germany: Syrian train passenger shouted “Allahu Akbar” – Train had to be stopped, large-scale police operation, station had to be cordoned off

There was a large-scale police operation at Landshut railway station on Thursday evening. A passenger on a regional express train had continuously shouted “Allahu Akbar”. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

A train attendant had informed the police around 9 p.m. because a man on the regional express train from Passau to Munich had shouted the Arabic phrase several times. “Allahu Akbar” means “God is great” and is often used as a battle cry by Islamist terrorists. Since a dangerous situation could not be ruled out, the train was stopped on a siding at its next stop in Landshut. There, the man – a 31-year-old Syrian – was immediately overpowered by police officers and taken into custody.

The migrant, who lives in the Potsdam area, also had a bag and a pillow with him. Both were x-rayed with special equipment. It was only travel equipment, the officers could not find any dangerous objects on the 31-year-old. It is still unclear why the man shouted “Allahu Akbar” several times on the train. Due to his mental state of emergency, he was taken to a specialised clinic.

The Landshut railway station was cordoned off during the operation, and nearby access roads were also temporarily blocked by the police.
