Germany: Syrian paediatrician recognised as a refugee abused underage girls

Hassan A. (34) had cowardly hidden his face behind a folder at the start of the trial. The paediatrician allegedly sexually abused three girls during treatment! On Thursday he was sentenced: two and a half years in prison!

In addition, the Essen Regional Court ruled that the doctor must not treat any women for three years, as a court spokesperson said.

The accused had confessed to the offences he was accused of. This spared the victims from having to testify in court. This had a lenient effect on the sentence.

On June 1, 2019, the Syrian had been employed as a paediatrician at the Marien Hospital in Gelsenkirchen after he had fled his home country because of the war. Only two months later, according to the public prosecutor, he allegedly groped a girl (then 14) on her breasts and in her private parts during an examination.

When the allegations came to light, he was released from duty. Since he denied the allegations at the time, it was testimony against testimony, with the result that he was allowed to continue working.

However, two more incidents occurred. He also allegedly groped these girls (15 and 14 y/o at the time).

One of the victims later told the police that she had panicked. “His way of touching me really scared me,” she stated. She had even sneaked out of the hospital after the incident and stayed outside for about an hour. “I didn’t dare go back inside.”

During a flat search, the doctor’s mobile phone and laptop were seized. The investigators found 26 child pornography files on them.

During the trial, the accused initially denied the accusations and claimed: “It was a normal examination, I only examined the body. But then he admitted everything.

The verdict is, among other things, for sexual abuse taking advantage of a treatment relationship. It is not legally binding.
