Germany: Muslim announced attacks on Israel

A suspected supporter of the Islamic State terrorist group must stand trial from Monday (9.30 a.m.). According to the indictment of the Düsseldorf Attorney General’s Office, the 27-year-old from Duisburg allegedly posted several announcements of attacks on Israel in a messenger service.

In addition, he is alleged to have sworn allegiance to the IS in an Islamist online forum and to have transferred a total of 250 euros to the terrorist group via a contact person. A tip from a foreign intelligence service is said to have put the investigators on the trail of the accused.

The charges are financing terrorism and conspiracy to commit a serious crime endangering the state. Investigators said that the German, who converted to Islam, had been involved in Islamist terrorist attacks in Germany since 2007.

Five years ago, the man from Duisburg allegedly got himself a plane ticket to the USA in order to drive a car into a crowd of people in New York. The 27-year-old was arrested on May 27.

Five more trial dates are scheduled for the trial at the Düsseldorf Regional Court until 7 January.
