Germany: Afghan man stabs woman to death in front of her children for, among other things, not liking the way she dressed

In the trial for the violent death of a 28-year-old woman in Cottbus, her husband Burhan Z. was sentenced to 13 years in prison for manslaughter.

In the reasons for the sentence, the judge stated, among other things, that the children had to witness the crime, as a spokeswoman of the regional court announced on Monday.

The court thus ruled against the demand of the public prosecutor, who had asked for 14 years for manslaughter.

The plaintiff had demanded life imprisonment for murder for the 32-year-old. The defence had pleaded for five years in prison for manslaughter in a minor case, because the accused had been provoked to commit the crime by a serious insult. In the meantime, the defence has filed an appeal, as the district court announced on Monday.

At the start of the trial last November, the 32-year-old Afghan admitted in a statement read out by his defence lawyer that he had stabbed his wife Nahid Z. several times with a knife after an argument in May. His wife had insulted and offended him, the statement said.

According to the indictment, the man was angry about the separation wanted by the woman and out of disapproval of her style of dress.

According to the indictment, the seriously injured woman had fled from a window of the shared flat on the first floor and jumped onto a canopy. The 32-year-old followed her there and continued to stab the 28-year-old, according to the indictment.

He then threw the 28-year-old woman onto the front steps of the house and hit her head several times on the steps.

The woman died at the scene.
