France: Woman screaming “Allahu Akbar” causes panic

A woman who shouted Allah Akbar at various locations in the municipality of Aucamville, north of Toulouse, early on Monday morning caused a stir among parents who were taking their children to school and among the staff of the town hall to which she had gone. After her arrest, she was taken into police custody.

On Monday morning, a hectic situation occurred outside the Victor Hugo school in Aucamville, north of Toulouse, as the children were being taken to school. A mother drew attention to herself when she suddenly chanted “Allah Akbar”. The woman, who according to witnesses was displaying “abnormal” behaviour, then went to the car park of the town hall after dropping off two of her children. There she again shouted the same words loudly and also uttered other words. The director general of the department also observed “strange behaviour from this woman” at the scene. “She was walking back and forth holding her youngest child in her arms. She went to take him to school before stopping at Bazerque Square where she was running around. We were very scared because we didn’t know what she would do with the child,” he said.

When the person walked towards the entrance of the town hall, it was immediately closed: “There was a small moment of panic. Nobody knew what the person was up to or whether he was armed or not,” reported a city councillor. The city police were quickly on the scene. However, their attempt to calm the woman failed. The conversation, which was conducted in two different languages, made communication impossible.
