The Lille prosecutor’s office states that “the person concerned admitted to the act, which is said to be motivated by personal and religious reasons”. According to our information, the man is said to have attacked his mother in particular because she did not want to convert to Islam. The accused, who had himself converted several years earlier, is said to have radicalised himself two years ago and has since practised a “rigorous Islam”, according to the Lille prosecutor, Carole Étienne.
