France: Dummy bomb and Islamist threats against a preschool

After the discovery of a dummy bomb, the Alexandre Dumas pre-school in Volgelsheim (Haut-Rhin) is the target of threats, this time with a link to members of radical Islamic groups. “On Tuesday September 21, the director of the school received a disturbing letter,” reports France 3. The words “Allahu akhbar” (God is great) were written in the text. The religious phrase is regularly used by Islamic terrorists. The letter also said: ” It’s no more funny, now it’s getting serious”.

As a result, the institution had to be closed for the day. The 45 pupils were sent home and the premises were secured by the gendarmerie. “The mothers were crying,” the mayor of the village, Philippe Mas, told France Bleu, adding that the children “do not need to stay in such an atmosphere”. “We don’t understand why such a threat can be made in this quiet village,” the mayor said. Already the day before, a suspicious package, possibly resembling a bomb, had been discovered on the school grounds. The students have already had to be evacuated and the residents of the neighbourhood have had to remain in their homes until the bomb squad has investigated the suspicion. The Colmar public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation. A mobile security team from the Département will be present at the preschool throughout the week.
