At around 4 a.m. on August 3, 2022, the emergency services were called to 25 rue du Faubourg-de-la-Chaussée in Montargis. On arrival, they detected Clothilde B., eight months pregnant, unconscious and with signs of violence on her body, in a flat on the first floor of a block of flats in the La Chaussée district. The young woman died a few hours later in the hospital of Greater Montargoise. Her unborn baby, a little girl, could not be saved.
In the flat, a poor one-room flat, the rescue workers and the police had found on the young woman’s body the traces of an ordeal that had been going on for days or even weeks. They were horrified by the deplorable conditions in which Clothilde, her husband and their three small children aged 2 to 5 were living, together with the husband’s other partner, who was also pregnant, and her three-year-old child.

Other worrying indications are this family’s great distrust of the medical profession, and this has been the case for years. The woman from Montargo, who converted to Islam after meeting her husband in Senegal, practised her faith very radically. According to our information, there was no prenatal care for Clothilde’s first pregnancies because they were diagnosed very late, as was the last pregnancy, by the way. (…) (…) La Rep.fr
