The Union of French Jewish Students (UEJF) published several photos of anti-Semitic graffiti on the walls of the University of Nanterre in the Hauts-de-Seine department on Thursday March 31, reports Cnews. The photos show “Hitler you are the best” written in red felt-tip pen or a Star of David under the word “media”. Another picture shows a phrase referring to the gas chambers.
The Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF) immediately reported these actions and denounced them to the university management. “For more than twenty years, the University of Nanterre has been the epicentre of anti-Zionist, indigenist discourse in the academic world. It is basically here where the extreme left, but also the Islamist movements, first gained a foothold at the university, and they hold an extraordinary sway there today,” Yonathan Arfi, a member of CRIF’s executive office, criticised to Cnews.
For its part, the University of Nanterre released a statement on social media condemning the acts and stating that a cleaning operation was currently underway to remove the anti-Semitic graffiti. An internal investigation has also been launched. ” We ask you to report any such graffiti to us,” the university added.
