France: Advertising companies stop campaign for book on Muslim Brotherhood because they fear acts of violence by Muslims

Advertising companies refrained from promoting a book on the Muslim Brotherhood because they considered the topic too “political” for the election period or saw the risk that it could lead to vandalism targeting their business partners. Global Watch Analysis, the press publisher that originated the campaign, criticised an unjustified decision that was tantamount to “censorship”.

Caution, censorship or respect for the law? Although an agreement had been reached, the advertising companies JCDecaux and Insert cancelled a poster campaign in Paris that was supposed to advertise a journalistic book about the Muslim Brotherhood on public billboards and at certain retailers. The offending poster featured the cover of the book, entitled The Global Threat of the Muslim Brotherhood – named after this covertly operating organisation that promotes an identity-based and ultra-conservative Islam – along with the message: “After this book, no one will be able to say they didn’t know.” The two companies, contacted by Marianne magazine, stand by their about-face, citing a too “political” or “sensitive” issue. When the publisher reluctantly agreed to postpone the campaign, it was postponed until June 19, i.e. after the second round of parliamentary elections. “It makes no sense to run a publicity campaign in June for a book that was published in April,” Atmane Tazaghart laments. […]
