The first incident happened on Sunday June 6.
A couple runs the restaurant Le Saint-Laurent on the banks of the Seine in Mantes-la-Jolie in the Yvelines. Although their business recently restarted, after a closure of several months in connection with the health crisis, the couple had to deal with a group of malicious customers. One message was even shared on Snapchat accusing them of selling “alcohol and pork” and calling them “dirty white people” and “dirty Jews”, reports actu.fr on Thursday June 10.
The 68-year-old owner was allegedly bullied by one of them for a simple remark: “I could not go to the terrace. I politely asked them to move the table. One man stood up and said: “This is how you welcome your customers. Let’s talk over there. He grabbed me by the shirt and pulled me aside,” the restaurant owner testified.
According to him, other people at the table tried to calm the situation down. But others did the opposite … Among them, a “veiled woman” who did not hesitate to call one of the restaurant owner’s two daughters, aged 24 and 31, a “whore”. The latter was “groped” by the “veiled woman”, as she told actu.fr. She filed a complaint against X for insult, intentional violence and cyber-harassment. The group then left without paying and before the police arrived. “They told us they would come back and burn everything down. “
But the threats have only just begun for the family of restaurateurs. Later in the day, on Sunday June 6, heated comments were posted on social media against the establishment. “Please share this as much as possible. Yesterday, a family of North Africans wanted to have a good time when the manager of this restaurant turned them away and humiliated the veiled women by calling them ‘dirty veiled whore’, ‘bunch of dirty Arabs’, etc.[…] Your restaurant doesn’t have the reputation of the other restaurants. […] His restaurant won’t last long,” he wrote in a message on Snapchat that actu.fr forwarded. Even more disturbing was an anti-Semitic comment in the same message, as well as a reference to the fact that the restaurant sells pork: “They sell pork and alcohol, these dogs (…) These dirty white people, Jews, big racists.
