This statue dating from 1869 is located on the roof of the marine aquarium and has been painted red. The “Heavenly Father” was formerly named “Statue of the Good Saviour” and helped seafarers and tourists to focus their contemplation on God. The cross that accompanied the statue was damaged several times by vandalism, so it was finally removed a few years ago. But this symbol of Christianity apparently continues to annoy some people…
