Belgium: Breaking of the fast for Muslims from the LGBTQ community had to be cancelled because threats against the event were posted on social media by Muslims

LGBTQ+ people are still too often looked down upon in Muslim culture. To break this taboo, a “Queer Iftar” was organised at the end of the month at De Roma cultural centre in Borgerhout in Antwerp: an iftar – the meal after sunset during Ramadan – for Muslims from the community. The event was cancelled because the organisers feared for the safety of the participants after numerous hateful comments appeared on social media. 7sur7.be
