Austria: Afghan stabbed his girlfriend in Tyrol and claims she fell into the knife

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Innsbruck on Friday evening after a knife attack on his 24-year-old girlfriend. According to the police, he attacked the woman with a kitchen knife with a 22-centimetre blade during an argument and inflicted stab and cut injuries on her shoulder and left thigh. An investigation is underway on suspicion of attempted murder, it was reported. The 24-year-old was treated in hospital.

The altercation took place around 6 pm in the district of Hötting, and the police were called by the ambulance service. On the spot, his statements that the woman had fallen with her shoulder on the knife turned out to be false. Rather, it turned out that the 23-year-old Afghan national had attacked his girlfriend. He was arrested and taken to the Innsbruck police detention centre, where he remains in custody.

The 24-year-old woman was admitted to hospital as an in-patient, but was already released from hospital on Saturday. She has already been questioned by the police. The suspect was to be questioned on Sunday. The investigation is being conducted by the Tyrol Regional Criminal Police Office.
