Arrested Kosovar plotted Islamist terror attack in Germany

First, the youth allegedly planned an explosive attack, then a knife attack on police officers. But he was stopped before his sinister plans could come to fruition.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office had a young terror suspect arrested in Iserlohn ( North Rhine-Westphalia) on Thursday. He is alleged to have planned an Islamist-motivated attack in Germany.

The Kosovar who is German citizen had been under the influence of a follower of the terrorist organisation Islamic State (ISIS), the authorities in Karlsruhe announced.

The youth had already been told how to build an explosive device, but then feared that his plans would be foiled, he said. “That is why he decided to attack police officers with a knife.

However, it did not come to that because of his arrest, the statement said.

The exact age was not disclosed. According to information from the German press agency dpa, the man in question is a 16-year-old who was already known as a so-called dangerous terrorist. He is said to have become highly radicalised within a few months.

The arrested man has reportedly already been brought before an investigating judge at the Federal Supreme Court (BGH) and is in custody. The investigators accuse him of preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state and of supporting a foreign terrorist organisation.

The ISIS supporter who is said to have influenced him is reportedly spreading propaganda material via a messenger service and calling for “jihad”.
