A man of Moroccan origin was arrested by the gendarmerie in the 18th arrondissement of Paris on Sunday evening when he tried to attack people of African origin on racist grounds.
Police became aware of the suspect around 5.30 pm when he was arguing with black people on the street and making racist remarks. The man eventually fled the scene, shouting “Allah Akbar” several times. The suspect then entered a pizzeria and stole the cook’s knife. He was recognised by the gendarmes who were securing the area on Boulevard Ney. The policemen surrounded him and held him at gunpoint. The suspect threw away his weapon and allowed himself to be arrested.
He appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He had no identification on him and refused to give his name, speaking in Moroccan Arabic. Actu17
