On Wednesday, Slovenia temporarily stopped the Corona vaccinations with the vaccine Janssen of the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. The reason for this was the death of a 20-year-old girl – there is a suspicion that there could be a context with a previous vaccination. The decision follows the recommendation of the vaccination commission to suspend the vaccine until the circumstances are clarified, said Health Minister Janez Poklukar at a press conference.
The young woman, who had been treated at the University Hospital in Ljubljana since Monday, died on Wednesday morning. Her condition was immediately diagnosed as life-threatening, the hospital said. The patient had blood clots in her brain and brain haemorrhages, and despite all medical efforts her condition had not improved, a doctor told journalists.
Because of a temporal connection between the administration of the Janssen vaccine and the woman’s demise, the suspicion of possible side effects was made and the case was reported to the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). A specially established commission will now investigate the correlation.
